French President Walks Out on '60 Minutes' Interview
« on: October 29, 2007, 09:54:56 AM »
I thought he showed alot of patience and class.  Didn't seem anywhere near as bad as the media put it.

They had to tell her that questions about his divorce were off limits, which is perfectly fine. If she violated the the ground rules then he did the right thing.

Both Lesli Stahl and Sarkozy handled themselves tremendously.

The only thing I think is questionable, is whether the private life should be an issue.

As long as Sarkozy doesn't want to talk about it, he has no obligation to answer questions about his private life.

But as soon as he makes his private life public, he has an obligation to inform about it.

From what I can tell, he's been very private about it all, and had every right to not answer questions about his wife.

Generally, 60 minutes is an absolute class act, one of the few good investigative TV shows on mainstream network these days.

Investigative questions, that aren't pleasant, has to be asked.

Those in power have to be investigated. It is one of the pillars that our democracy is founded on.

Those in power have to be investigated. It is one of the pillars that our democracy is founded on.

Way off base. What their personal love lives should be dogged?

If you think that statement is true than the Executive Branch Reform Act, H.R. 984, would have been passed and you would now if your state leg. came in contact with a lobbyists that wanted to steam roll your house down to make room for a casino.

Journalism, is a "race to the bottom" ,, journalism was built on the power of manipulation, not democracy. Every prez since the Boston Paper has owned or had control of the old age media source.

Terms were set before this interview she went out of bounds.

Media has gotten out of hand. Like you said "generally" 60 minutes is a class act, but over the last year or so it's gone to shyte.

I disagree with hedge and agree with youandme. While i'm only speculating, there were ground rules set before this interview, a list of proposed questions were given to the French press secretary. I'm sure all manner of issues were on the table, iraq, Iran..French economy etc. I'm sure that his private life and divorce were off the table and mentioned before the interview was conducted. I would say that it was mentioned that Sarkozy might terminate the interview if his divorce was brought up. If none of this was done then the press secretary should be fired, if it was, as I would do, then stahl should have respected the ground rules. Many of these press folks have huge ego's and like to push the limit. I've never heard anything bad about Stahl. 60 Minutes does great interviews and I would not expect them to soft ball this guy but i would also expect them to avoid loosing access to the French government.
