Title: Brady proves again that he is the man!
Post by: King Shizzo on February 26, 2013, 07:00:18 AM
Signed a 3 year 27 million dollar extension through 2017 (will be 40 then). If I were Kraft, I would let him play through his whole deal out of respect. Only 9 million a year?  This guy is as selfless as they come, taking alot less money to keep a winning team on the field.  Guess the race.

In other news, Gronkowski had his 3rd surgery (infection) on his forearm.  I have a love/hate relationship with this guy now.  He needs to prove that he can stay healthy in the playoffs, or he needs to be cut.

Considering his wife makes all the money I can see why, he can even play for free and still be set  :D

fuck no, Brady didn't have to do this. fucking Patriots got tons of cash to spend. they didn't need Brady to take a paycut.....I would have no fucking loyalty to any teams. after all, it's a Business

Now that I hear that all of the money is guaranteed, the deal is fair all around. How many teams guarantee money until a guy is 40? I'm stoked, i'll take Brady for 5 more years!!!!

Business? Sure. Brady is a winner though. He would rather compete each year for a superbowl, rather than making a few more million on a dogshit team.

It's going to be sad seeing him go, watched him since he first came out to relieve Bledsoe.. :'(

How over 10 years have passed :-\

2007 was something only if they could have won

No shit  :'(  I was a Bledsoe guy too.  The way Brady took over (for an injured Bledsoe) was legendary. Brady, is in Jordan territory. The good news, is that we should have him for 5 more years.

My views on Brady:

Great quarterback, one of the best ever
Seems like a genuinely good guy and gives pretty honest interviews.
Hit the marriage lotto.
Doesn't need to do the stupid ads
As stated the Pats are great, but also have an incredible advantage for playing in a division that has overall stunk for a decade.
Never won a Super Bowl since his team was busted for taping the opponents practices

Only made it to two more super bowls, and a couple of AFC championships. Please! Are we still taping? Didnt the Saints get busted? Every team tries to gain an advantage. Giants have not got caught.

Won 3 by the smallest of margins (3pts per) with cheating, made it to two more, and lost by a small margin without cheating (we think).  Small advantages count.

Thats all bullshit. Superbowls are supposed to be close (best of Afc vs Nfc) All of that cheating nonsense is drummed up by Patriot haters. Every team has taped plays of they're opponents.

You aren't getting through to them, since they are up his ass.  But you are right, they haven't won since getting busted.  And someone  in this thread is out of their minds putting him Jordan.  I'm not sure he could beat a Montona, Elway/Davis, Emmitt/Troy/Irvin or Bradshaw team.

Eli > Brady

Who says? Parcells admitted that every team cheats. Lets not pretend that professional coaches have not seen every play/formation there is.  Its up to the players to execute. It is well known that the Patriot players had no part in "Spygate".

No part except the defense knowing the first 20-25 plays or so.

The league took this very seriously.  I can't reacll a coach getting a half a million dollar fine and losing draft picks.

Lol.  The Patriots are the ones who got caught. 20-25 plays?  No team scripts the first 20-25 plays. Maybe the first 2 or 3. I thought you guys were smarter then that.

At least you are honest. Lots of Pats bashers on here. They are just jealous of the Patriots 12+ Year dominance. That includes the years after spygate. Bitches. Yes..... Meltdown.

I do think Brady is a wimpy type guy but it's not his job to take hits. He can bomb a ball 60+ yards with precision and gets paid in full for doing so. The guy is legit HOF if there ever was one and could quite possibly end up being the GOAT of QB's. I still got no love for him, just respect.

I like the new "Willie Beamen" type QB's that Mike Vick set the prototype for. Russell Wilson, Kapernick, RG III. Run and Gun QB's. The stiff pocket QB's are dying out.

Yeah..but time will tell as to whether or not a QB with that style of play can win a Superbowl. Stiff pocket passers may be dying out but history shows that those types of QB's are the one's with rings. Give me a Joe Montana type QB over a Mike Vick and day of the week.

These guys will not last.  They get punished by LB's.  RG was getting crushed by guys all year.  Two concussions I believe? And other injuries.  Albeit Cam is a beast maybe he can last.

None of these guys are Brady's though man.  When you look at the big picture, supermodel wife, tons of endorsements, could almost even see him as some sort of fixture in hollywood. Fierce competitor too!
Title: Re: Brady proves again that he is the man!
Post by: JediTerminator on February 26, 2013, 09:31:51 AM
RG III and Russell Wilson are too small to take big hits. Guys like Kapernick have the body to absorb that punishment. Whether or not they have rings, you see a lot more QB's like this now than you did before, so it's inevitable some rings will start to come in for this type of player.

Stiff pocket has been the standard. Evolution changes the game.

Taking 27M guaranteed from ages 38-40 is smart football, given that the chance at winning will probably trump the additonal dollars he might be able to squeeze from the team.   But I don't think it's "classy".

he could have held out and gotten much much more. Instead he freed up a ton of room to add more talent.  It was classy.

It's self serving.  He wants more Championships.

And, should he have let his contract run out, there's no guarantee he'd be worth more.

If Brady wins 2 championships over the next 3 years.... then that minor pay cut will more than be covered with endorsements and other opportunities.

not only that, but he's financially set for the next 200 years.  He cares about legacy, and 5 rings means he's the best ever.  Three doesnt.

I've never compared their careers, and don't start Eli threads proclaiming anything of the sort.

Eli's played Brady in two Super Bowls, beaten him twice, was part of two of the biggest plays in Super Bowl history, destroyed the Pats 2007 undefeated bid, and prevented dbags like Moss and Wilfork from winning championships.

I'm happy with that.

No disagreement here on his overall performance.    In the first loss, he third throw on the last set of downs was one of the best passes I've ever seen, something like 70 yds in the air, just enough to make Moss miss.  I still can't believe Moss got separation on that play.

I don't think the second SB was his best though, between the safety and the Welker pass.  Yes, it should have been caught, no doubt, but he was so open it could have been a better throw.

Welker's wife's comments about PED's in the NFL is gonna get a bounty put on him. She was directly referring to Ray Lewis but it brought scrutiny through the whole SB week. I would be surprised if this guy took some dirty hits this season.

Brady probably makes more off the field than he does on.  I doubt he did that out of the goodness of his heart, a million or two in Salary is chump cange to that guy at this point, between hm and his wife they are extremely wealthy.

I wouldn't say "classy" or generous...he's basically investing his money into players he knows he needs on the field ....I'd say "smart businessman"

and the money is guaranteed, very few 100% guaranteed contracts in the NFL.  you hear aboiut these 4 year, 60 million dollar contracts given out, and then two years later the guy is cut and they don't owe him a dime.

While Tom Brady's contract extension lowers his average base salary and creates significant salary-cap space for the New England Patriots to surround him with a team capable of challenging for a Super Bowl, the quarterback also nearly doubled the guaranteed money owed him over the next five seasons, according to a league source who has reviewed the documents.

Imop he did it as a show of faith to the Hierarchy (Bob Kraft is a major player in the Hierarchy)...When an LA team and stadium does happen, I think Brady's name will be tied into it one way or another. How well would an LA football team do with Tom Brady and Joe Montana as part of their owners group?

this extension doesnt kick in till 2015 at which point they can tear it up and adjust. in the mean time they free up cap space. smart business move. i believe it s mainly about the cap space at this point and brady being cool enough to not let his wallet get the better of him. even in two years, brady will be have the ability to bargain for one final massive payday, patriots or no patriots.

BTW, he took 27M over 3 years but he is also getting a 30M signing bonus.  He's no saint, just relieved the team of cap hits thru 2017, so he can have a functional squad around himself.  Some might call that self serving.  ::)  I like how the media reports shit incompletely.   He's still after the dollar like the tattooed thugs in the league.  ::)  He still avgs out $19M a year.  Is that in Manning's money hungry league?

What?  This is Boston - alcoholics make up most of the fanbase.

Wrong. He is going to make more money in the long run. Look at the deal again.

Poor Brady.  $57 million guaranteed over the next 5 years.  His wife made $40 million last year.  I think he'll be fine.

They can't. The money is guaranteed. I'm sure they could trade him, or sit him (if he starts sucking bad) but, they owe him that money.

Thank you! I told you guys that he now is guaranteed the 57 million for the five years. Not all that much if you break it down yearly, but it is great to now that he will recieve all of that money.  Ask Vick about his 100 mill contract.  It doesn't mean shit unless its guaranteed.

Yes, that was my understanding too.  I don't know why the other poster keeps saying they can reneg.  Unless he means Brady/Pats can RENEGotiate, but I was taking reneg to mean back out.

Brady breaks a hand, he still gets $57.  brady blows a knee, he still gets $57, Brady only loses that money if he retires.

Yes, I agree, but I don't know if that's sinking in with the others.

We are where most of us were yesterday - it was smart football move, enabled by Brady's current wealth, but hardly classy.

Remember Grape, He took well below his value last contract as well.  He could have easily been the highest paid qb this whole time.

Brady has it all right now. More money than his great, great, great grandkids would ever need.  A wife that rakes in cash, a castle to live in, numerous deals.  But he is missing that 4th SuperBowl to be tied with Montana.  It must drive him nuts that he can't get it.  Nothing classy.  he just wants that superbowl.  In reality his contract extension could be like this.

3 years at $60 million with $27 million guaranteed.  This is how NFL contracts work.  he would never see the $60 million. But that 60 million goes agains the salary cap and fucks up the accounting for them to sign new players.  So just giving him the guaranteed straight up leaves gap room. I'm pretty sure he has a $10 million Superbowl winning bonus in there along with a $5 million MVP bonus and shit like that.

yeah that's one thing that's fucked up about the NFL...you hear about these giant contracts, but they aren't worth the paper they are printed on, most of these guys never see a third of that money, it's deferred or the contract is back-loaded.. and they count against the cap.

Brady is one of the few guys that if he signed a monster deal chances are he would get every penny, he's a mega-star...but taking guaranteed money at less than what he could potentially earn is smart and helps everyone. Could he command more money? absolutely, but he's not a young QB anymore and if he gets hurt again (a very real possibility) The Patriots don't owe him shit...and business is business, if he couldn't play they would dump him with no hesitation.  Smart guy, made a good move IMO when you weigh in all of the factors.

Yeah he could hold out for more money but the truth is, where is he really going?  he's going to sign with the highest bidder and wind up in Kansas City ? He knows he's in a great situation and isn't looking to rock the boat any more than the Pats are.

We can only hope Eli Manning wins one more and is tied with Brady, just for the sheer fun that it will drive NE fans apeshit.

Oh it would. Eli isn't in the same league as Brady.  This goes against the conventional arguement that rings mean everything. Marino was far better than Manning.  It should count for something about getting to the superbowl as well.  Brady had been to 5 superbowls, and two more AFC championship games.  In the conversation for best of all time.  Eli isn't even better then his own brother.  Wait, I'll do it for you:

Eli isn't the same league as Brady.....unless they meet head-to-head. If I'm not mistaken, Eli is the only QB against which Tom Brady has a losing record (including, of course, his two losses in the big one).

Some teams just have other teams' number. Such is the case with the Giants, as it relates to the Patriots.
