Title: Should Ronnie have retired last year?
Post by: dantelis on October 01, 2007, 02:04:45 PM
So Ronnie has announced his retirement - on the Pro Bodybuilding Radio show.

Do you think this 4th place finish taints his Olympia run?  Would he have been better off retiring last year?

He reminds me of Ali or one of those old boxers who just wouldn't call it quits and got "owned" when they tried to regain their title.

Good point that may be the case. I don't blame Ronnie for trying to break Haney's record he went for it and it didn't work out I mean he's had a great run but it does look bad when you're relegated to fourth

He probably had contract obligations

Ronnie could improve dramatically even at this stage...if he comes to Koloseum for more than a photoshoot... ;)

"Giant sets baby" and "go light or go home" should be on his next dvd...

He looked pretty awesome coming in, honestly i dont know what happened, his legs were smaller, and he just lacked that monster stage presence...maybe he did overdiet? Last year he was still huge, but came in out of shape sorta..

Not really.

from a legacy standpoint, yes.

From a payday perspective, keep on competing.

No it shouldn't "Taint his Olympia Run". And he should keep being a "TOP COMPETITOR" until he doesn't enjoy it anymore, maybe this is the case but for him I certainly hope not. That would be a major life change for him.

No disrespect Milos (I always pay attention to your opinions, you really know about bbing), but that would change dramatically Ronnie's training philosophy. He is well known for his heavy trainings, and probably was the strongest bber ever, nonetheless he won 8 Sandows, and in his mid-forties he is still a very competitive bber. I never liked Ronnie, but this is the truth. I think that if he had to change his working methods he wouldn't feel himself motivated anymore.

That's absolutely right...  get Ronnie on the Snake OilTM, and he'll be right back at the O for #9!

Would he have been better off retiring last year?

Absolutely! He would have at least left with some dignity.
