My friend Berry has asked me to spread the word on his new website http://www.berrydemey.com/
Berry has been off the radar as far as bodybuilding is concerned and his website is probably not what you think. His website features his latest endeavor which is professional photography.
A few excerpts from his bio on the site:
In 2004, Berry de Mey graduated from the premier photographic academy of the Netherlands. Since then he has been working as a professional photographer and has produced a wealth of outstanding photographic images.
De Mey ended his bodybuilding career in 1994 and began to focus all of his attention on the photography that he loved so much. Today, he and his wife and daughter, live in his hometown of Nieuwerkerk aan den IJssel, where he continues to produce some of finest photographic images.
There are samples of his photographic work on the site as well as some pics of Berry from his bodybuilding days in the webshop. And if you are like me and are curious as to what he looks like nowadays here is a current shot.

I met DeMey at one of the Olympias in the late 80's. He was extremely nice and personable to everyone who talked to him. No arrogance or bad attitude as with guys like Flex Wheeler in his day.

I saw him when he was 19 when he guest posed in the UK,he was promoted as the next Arnold,he was massive at that age.Then i saw him a year later in London when he won the world couples champs with Erica Mes,he had probably a better reception than any of the Olympia competitors onstage that day.
Here he is in 83 and 85.

Agreed - one of the few who seem to have successfully put bodybuilding firmly behind them and moved onto pastures new. Props.

If I become racist, we Yellow are the strongest race to survive any climate.
Plus, with my 171cm, Nobody but nobody told me that i am a short man.
I was always in middle height class when i compete in WABBA in Spain.

White....Good in cold weather but hot weather or sunny weather not. Easily get skin cancer. All look way older than yellows.
Black....They cant live in cold place. They get sick in the cold place easily.
Yellow....Hot humid place,OK. Extremely cold place,OK(Look at Eskimo, they are yellows.)

I dont want to be Berry.
I wanted similar conditioned and strem line physic.
In addition, in here Spain, All the people are fliped that i look way more younger than them.
People say that I am late 20s. But sorry, I am almost 40. We yellow look younger than white.

Agree. The fish based diet, rice etc. is excellent. However, just like in China, with the introduction of American fast food, this is starting to change. :-\
In the Summer, when I see fat Oriental tourists, I know they are usually Americans. :D

Yeah. I agree. But from around my age, we have eaten many fatty foods like burger. But still way less fat people and those fat peoples desease than europe and states.

I had mentioned in a thread from months ago that Berry fucked about with a famous venice pig schmoe that would give away top quality pharmaceutical grade roids in exchange for sex. During the 2nd year of the WBF Berry, who had been living in Venice for a few years already , had gotten fucked up on recreational drugs. He still looked awesome but he just spiraled out of control. He fucked up his personal life as did many other WBF guys. And when it fell he tried to keep it together but eventually headed back to Holland and dissapeared off the grid. But berry was a cool dude.

As a Dutchie myself I saw Berry two times. The 1th time was in the mid 90's as a guestposer in my formal gym. That day he looked really tyred. The 2th time as a speaker during a guestpose routing for a shop promotion. I also trained for a short period in the Bodyshape gym where he trained, but didn't spot him over there.

Before guestposing he pumped up his bi's with 65lb alternate dumbell curls and did some machine presses with the whole stack, both in a fast style without any warm up. A few years before (I guess it was '91) he teared his pec while benching 440 (I don't know if he did a warm up or not). IMO I think his body (bone structure and long muscles) is better build for moderate than heavy weights, but I'm not familiar with his off-season or pre-contest workouts.

Where was this taken? I have met Appie a few times when I have been in NL. I usually spend 3 months in The Netherlands every summer. I go back and forth between my family in Breda and Goes.

Most people confuse bb'ing with weightlifting, so they think "big man, heavy weights", so I think it was an ego thing. He stood in the middle of the crowd and suddenly took the same dumbells for his bi's as I used them for my heavy chest sets ;D

Here's his 1992 WBF Championship routine. He's not quite as good as he was in '91 and slipped from 3rd to 4th.
But, at least he took time out his (getting) busy schedule to pose for the audience. For those who don't want to sit through the "pre-film", the posing part starts around the 4:08 mark.

I think that happened (the pec tear) in 1988 or 1989. After he healed up, he tried to compete in the 1990 Olympia. He earned a spot in the show but got disqualified, due to the drug-testing. After that, he became the first “draft pick” (if you will) for the World Bodybuilding Federation (WBF) and made the 2nd cover of the “Bodybuilding Lifestyles”, the WBF’s magazine.

he looks lean and healthy,it goes to show that not all bodybuilders wait till they are told by a doctor that they have to come off cause they are faceing life threatning health problems,some guys think more about the future of thier health and well being then in living for the moment,thats good to see.when its all said and done the only thing that matters in mid life is being healthy and being surrounded by a great wife,good kids,and a happy home with jesus in your life and also good friends in your life.a bunch of trophys are great to have to show your kids but if your missing a kidney or have liver problems and heart problems those trophies dont mean a thing
