Title: What is the most common injury going to big on dead lifts?
Post by: ronbrgundy on February 24, 2010, 07:54:17 PM
I tried to hang with some really strong guys today and was moving 225 lbs.  I believe at one time I 1 repped 295 lbs.  If our next lift is anything like today they are going to ask me to try 300+ and I want to know what I could f up going too big too fast

Ok I got comfortable with the deadlift exercise and am doing sets of 275 for 5 right now with no real issues.  Hope to move up to 315 for 5 in the next couple of months.

Can be hard on the knees.
Bicep takes a beating if your arms aren't straight at the beginning of the lift.

Deadlifting has caused problems with my knees in the past.  A few months back, I began deadlifting in sock feet, and I could feel the difference with the first set.  Much more control over how my feet/ankles are position.  This transferred up through the whole leg, and make a huge difference in how I feel after deads.  No more knee discomfort the days following.  Looks weird to other gym goers though, but how give a fcuk.
