Title: RIP Alex Azarian
Post by: Coach is Back! on January 26, 2015, 03:13:49 PM
This is one that hurts. We spoke many times in the past and finally had the pleasure of meeting him at the 2007 Excaibur where he and I competed and hung out. After that he was one of the few that I looked to. RIP Alex

From Nga

"It is with much sadness and sorrow and a very heavy heart and many tears in my eyes that I share this sad news of the passing of my husband and the most important person in my life the past 15 years. My husband Alex suddenly passed away this weekend on January 24th leaving me and our family devastated. The last few days have been like hell on earth. My heart hurts for our two children the most. We all love him and miss him very much. We are stunned and saddened beyond belief by this news. Please keep our family in your prayers during this very difficult time. We ask for privacy during this time as we mourn this loss. We will do our best to keep you up to date on services and where to send condolences."

Is this the guy who looked ripped to shreds in his gym shots but unimpressive in contest? No idea why these people take years off their life with drugs.

I don't know that you ever become completely "numbed" to these sorts of threads but it seems like every month or 2 another bodybuilder in his 40's(or younger) is passing away.

Death with all its life ending properties sadly ran deep in the Azarian family.  Thus doctors have ruled this a congenital death by Death.

Regardless, condolences to the family.

Not just "death".  There are dulcet tones, whispered thoughts of reverence really, it was the dreaded, "Congenital Death".

And Coach, it does not mean this man, your friend, was not a good man.  It just means that if his demise was self inflicted by means of living beyond his genetics (Damn!

And again, condolences to his family.

Do you realize that pic was taken over 7 years ago? I don't know when the last time he competed but draw a judgment about something you're not sure is flat out wrong.

Coach I am with you on this no one should disrespect this man, he was a great guy on all accounts and the hundreds of people who knew him will all echo my sentiment.

And in like manner you do realize that what we have to go on is what is presented here?  You also realize that there is little if any sympathy for druggies here?

And furthermore you are more than aware that the odds are not in his favor with regard to his chosen (even if "former") life's choices that he did not cause this himself?  And once more with a fervor rarely witnessed here or elsewhere in the civilized word it does not mean he was not a good man, just a fool like so many others to have lived beyond his genetics.

Time waits for no man.  Why then hasten it's passage?

This board is so confusing. It is a bodybuilding board where 80% of the people posting bash bodybuilders. I suspect very few who disrespect this man have achieved much of anything. There are those who see the achievement of others and are inspired by it and others who are convicted by it. For every negative response there is some guy on the other side of the computer who's life's achievements are laughable.

Just because this is a bodybuilding board, it does not mean we have to respect bodybuilders.

Look at the threads posted about woman getting raped. People here making jokes about rape.  But that's okay? Yet, we are to automatically show respect to a bodybuilder because its a bodybuilding board. WUT?!?!?!  ::) ::)

This forum dishes out both the negative and positive about bodybuilders.

The thing I don't get, is whenever a bodybuilder dies, everyone uses the same line, "He had a congenital heart defect, etc."

No one ever ponders the idea that it may be due or indirectly due to the ingestion of tons and tons of drugs over a prolonged period of time. Nope, its never EVER that. Not in a million years.

So a duck doesn't quack?

And again because I am far from inhuman, my condolences go out to his family and friends of which I am neither.  By the way, my late youngest brother was a meth addict and took his own life.

Stupid idiot that he was for getting mixed up in the crap.   I love him but that doesn't change the fact (pesky facts) that he was a retard for ever starting down that path.  Don't like the truth?

Hide your head in the sand, up your butt or vote Democrat just don't expect me to be an apologist for druggers, including your now deceased friend.   Or maybe I should just claim it was a congenital gunshot to his head that did my brother in?    Screw that.

Strange that Coach has no problem making jokes about an innocent baby getting brutally tortured.

Yet a drug addict is off bounds  ::)

I will not make jokes about anyones death (I think besides DA's). And even then, I don't think I really made fun of his death, just that he was stupid for putting all that crap into his body.

However, any harm that involves children being hurt is off limits to me. Just won't go there. I am no white knight, but I like to think I am a decent person.

Here's the difference.  I am not joking.  Drugs, copious amounts of drugs, can do serious harm to the human body.  This man was dinky and would not have weighed nearly so much if he was a natural.

He also might be alive today if he were a natural.

Johnny Falcon, would you say this man would still be alive if he studied electricity?

Part of me think it was the electricity that killed him.  Think about it.

How do people make protein shakes: A blender

How is a blender powered: By electricity

Therefore, too many supplements mixed in a blender could have killed him.

Sometimes too much knowledge about electricity is not a good thing.

Here's the problem.  This guy was a friend of yours, how much he truly was is irrelevant.  Not my problem.

I turned my own brother in for his addiction.    I am not some pussy that thinks the world of someone that thinks so little of themselves and their loved ones that they take drugs and ultimately lose their life.

I imagine that once an autopsy is performed or at the first sign of someone, somewhere saying his death was not drug related you will be posting a link or a pull quote to somehow vindicate your "friend".

That won't change the fact that he is dead.  And given the chosen lifestyle he led, it won't change anyone's mind here about how avoidable this all could have been.

No, it won't. One do not even know what happened. All we know is that he passed away suddenly on Saturday.  Yes, in the back of our minds, you always wonder if taking steroids was a part in this. If eating bad did it. If high stress did it. Who knows?

What I do know is that Alex was always very nice and respectful to me, and loved his wife and two kids. Two younger kids, whom were the joy in their lives. And Alex loves them and the family very very much.  He hadn't competed in years. But he was a family man who cared deeply, and that is what I saw.

And tonight, I am going to hug my kids even more than ever.

To be fair coach, that happens when any celebrity dies on just about any forum. When someone dies, many people speculate on how and why? Posing in a glittery thong in front of an audience could make someone a bodybuilding celebrity. Which is why anyone who doesn't know him is aloud to speculate imop...

Realize that besides the initial discomfort of using a mask or nasal pillows, and the psychological component of admitting you're sick, a CPAP/APAP will give you the best sleep you've had in decades.  Not to mention it'll negate the fact that you have a 68% chance of dying in your sleep.  For some, a proper CPAP changes their life entirely (mood, appetite, energy, etc).  It only helped my energy, sleep quality, and mood (big time).

You really should look into a sleep study, especially if you have good insurance, Coach.  You'll thank me later.  This is something I'm pretty passionate about.

Thats because you are a fat ass and you weigh way too much for your height.  Even if you weren`t a fat ass, you would still weigh too much.  Ideally, you probably need to be around 140 or so, maybe less at your height if you plan on living long.

Death with all its life ending properties sadly ran deep in the Azarian family.  Thus doctors have ruled this a congenital death by Death.

Regardless, condolences to the family.

Let me guess... sleep apnea/cardiac?

This scares ME to death. My wife tells me every day I snore loud and stop breathing then resume. This is how my father passed. I started dieting to drop weight and started following breathing protocols (nasal strips at night, breathing exercises, etc) restorative breathing after training etc.
Nasal strips are bullshit...all that is bullshit as far as sleep apnea is concerned.  Your air passage close off when your muscles relax because it is smaller than normal.
I am scared. I'm scared to go to sleep at night. I'm down to 225 at 5'7.

You need to be fitted with a CPAP.  No if's ands or buts.  While body weight is a factor, there are skinny people with Obstructive Apnea.
It's mostly because of of being born with narrow air passages.  Have you ever had problems when trying to sound off loudly?  Of not being able to shout very loud?  As a kid did your dentist have trouble working inside your mouth?  As an adult, does your dentist have problems working inside your mouth?  Are you troubled with frequent respiratory infections? Do you have a deviated septum? Do you have trouble breathing through your nose?  Do you have dental malocclusions?  Crooked teeth?
These are all signs of having smaller than normal otolaryngeal "plumbing".

You will hate your CPAP at first try.  The key is to get a headpiece that doesn't trigger claustrophobia.  I can't deal with masks, i have to use headpieces that connect to the nose without pushing on my face.  The first night you are successful with a CPAP will leave you with euphoria.  And I am not exaggerating in any way.

This is a diametric opposite of a CPAP.  CPAP shoves air in, not restrict it.

Constantly Pressurize Air Passages.  A device used to treat Obstructive Sleep Apnea.

To recapitulate: Sleep apnea is when you sleep, your muscles relax and for some people, their air passage collapse and they choke.  This makes your heart pound very fast, and your blood pressure becomes hypertensive.  Untreated it can do all kinds of nasty things to you in addition to you being in a perpetual fog because you can’t sleep very deeply.

A CPAP is a special air compressor that delivers a gentle air pressure, measured in centimeters of water, through your nose to keep your air passage from collapsing.

A doctor prescribes it for you.  You spend a night in a sleep center where they diagnose your apnea and a doctor writes a prescription for you to get the device.  They used to have to schedule a second night to determine the pressure you need, but the newer models can detect when you are choking and self-adjusts the pressure.

I won’t lie, many hate the things and only half of people who need them use them long term.
I have to use the headgear that connects to your nose like in the picture.  Other use a mask like in the other picture.  I can’t sleep with a mask; I have to use the nose pillows.

How many are TRULY mourning his loss? Just because someone has 50,000 facebook friends, it doesn't mean they are all mourning his loss the same. I assure you, the same people who will mourn my and your loss are also mourning his loss. Basically, family and close friends. The others are just passerbys who are offering words of support to the family, but they are truly not mourning in the same way a mother would mourn for the death of her child. Offering words of support by saying, "I am sorry for your loss," does not mean that person is actually in mourning. I mean, I am sure most of those people who met him once or twice are offering words of support, but are going about their day like nothing happened. Do not confuse the fact that just because someone knows a lot of people, that all those people are actually mourning his loss. Sure, they may be slightly sad, but mourning? I doubt it.

I use a ResMed S9 with an 18 (!) pressure.  For the mask, I always, always go with nasal pillows.  Insurance covers most of it, except for the odds and ends, which I get at CPAP.com.

Honestly, I should have died in my sleep like Alex Azarian probably did.  It's scary to think this machine has kept me alive... but I will have to deal with that until I drop my weight.

I don't have sleep apnea but I really can't say whether they are crazy or not as I have no knowledge or experience in this subject.

I know my brother, who is very overweight has to wear some kind of device because of "sleep apnea". I've seen what he looks like when he sleeps. He sleeps on his back and as he relaxes his head shifts forward but because he has so much fat under his chin he literally starts strangling himself. I saw it with my own eyes. He starts snoring, you see his chin drop forward and down, the fat starts to compress, and then he starts choking and shifts around. And the process starts over.

Fuck you are pathetic.

BTW, I'm not sure you are being completely honest. Say you died in your swimming pool and your kids respond by saying, "Hey Mom! Dad is dead. Can you get him out of the pool because he's in the way."

And no funeral or ceremony honoring your passing. I know that you being dead and all will be unaware of all this and therefore in that sense it's meaningless. But one tends to have an idea the impact they have had on the world and on those in his life.

To know that you had no lasting impact on anybody. That your life was so inconsequential that literally no one cares whether you live or die.
Perhaps not caring about anything is more pathetic than caring about how your life has touched others.

By all accounts Alex had a positive impact on all that knew him. What good does it do him now? Maybe nothing? I think it's something. A big something. Our personal memories are like history. That things that happened mattered and changed the course of events and lives.

Sometimes it's not always just about just you. You tend to be a very self-absorb, narcissistic person.

But if that makes you happy so be it. It's always about you anyway.

For some, not so much.

By doing this a person (mostly anyone) can retain gains for a much longer period and lose little once off. I can come off for a year and lose maybe 15lbs. Not that drastic of a change in body composition when you come off of low doses.  BTW, I would probably be 150-160 if I never trained.

I`m just here for the food.

"I told my wife I'm going out to buy an envelope. 'Oh,' she says. 'Well, you're not a poor man. You know, why don't you go online and buy a hundred envelopes and put them in the closet?' And so I pretend not to hear her. And go out to get an envelope because I'm going to have a hell of a good time in the process of buying one envelope. I meet a lot of people. And, see some great looking babes. And a fire engine goes by. And I give them the thumbs up. And, I ask a woman what kind of dog that is. And, I don't know. The moral of the story is we're here on Earth to fart around. And, of course, the computers will do us out of that. And, what the computer people don't realize, or they don't care, is we're dancing animals. You know, we love to move around. And, we're not supposed to dance at all anymore."

bi-pap? Cpap? A whole new world is opening up to me. Never heard of any of this. How is bi-pap better than Cpap?

Cpap is usually one continuous pressure. Some are set to "ramp up"  to the max pressure over time say 20 min or so. This way you can fall asleep so you don't realize you are being force fed air at a high level of pressure. A bipap has two separate pressures one when you breath in and one when you breath out. Also with a bipap when pressures can vary so you only get what you need at that moment you need it. When  you breath out the pressure lowers immediately so it makes it very comfortable. There is a night a day difference between the two.

current era bodybuilding is a killer

the gh and slin give an extra 20-30 llbs but is it worth knocking off 20-30 years of life?

If this is true, I am going to live 20 to 30 years longer because I have recently dropped 30 lbs. of unneeded weight. Not only do I look a heck of a lot better, I've bought a bunch of new clothes and I feel like a kid again.

Very interesting. I'm definitely going research more on this. Bi-pap seems vastly superior.

Thank you for your thorough reply.

slleep apnea can be solved internally with just a4 to 8ounce veggie shake before bed

Uuuuh…No… Unless it can be shown that your vegetable shake can increase the dilation of your sleep time air passages.

It depends on how much pressure is needed to keep your air passages open when you inhale.
SaintAnger said he needs 18 cmh20.  I need 13.  When the pressure necessary gets very high, your lungs have trouble exhaling.  So a BiPAP becomes what you need.  It lowers the pressure so your lungs can exhale more completely, and then raises it for the inhalation.

I have not much trouble with a straight simple CPAP personally.  My trouble was my original doctor insisted on me using the mask, which made me feel my breath on the tip of my nose.  I could not make him understand that that bothered me so very much.
I put the thing in the closet for two years until I couldn’t stand it anymore.  I went to a different doctor and he immediately wrote me a prescription for a nose pillow headpiece and chin strap.  It took me just two days to get accustomed to that.

It was wonderful that first night. When you have apnea, many guys thrash their legs when they sleep and their bed linen is all disheveled when they wake up.  When your CPAP first works you know it has worked because your sheets and blankets are just as you left them when you went to sleep.  And you are left with a wonderful feeling that I can’t possibly describe.

I have had a C-Pap for 3 years now, I have had apnea a long time. If you guys have apnea get it checked and taken care of ASAP. For some dropping weight will help, not always, I had apnea before I got bigger from lifting, it did get worse as my weight increased. Your body is starve of oxygen all night with apnea, you never get into rem. I went for my sleep study on a Friday, after one hour the nurse woke me up and put me on a C-Pap right away, really bad apnea is 30 events in an hour, I had 70 :-[ My doctor had a C-pap to me the following Monday and told me I was on a bullet train to a stroke or heart attack :-\ I got used to wearing it right away, it dropped my blood pressure a full 10points, I wake up feeling rested and ready to go. Before the C-Pap I felt like shit all day and was so tired I could fall asleep standing.

Being "skinny" is not a sign of being healthy. There are millions of people who are of ideal weight who have coronary heart disease from too much sugar consumption.

Joe Rogan stated that almost every bodybuilding type dude who tried out for Fear Factor who made it through the first round of pre-screening didn't make it past the physical because of heart related problems...He said they did an intense physical that 99% of all family doctors don't do and basically none of the muscle heads could pass it...He even said he believes Fear Factor saved a few of these types of guys lives by finding heart problems that wouldn't have been found...

Get off the juice  Coach , you will be 170 in no time  son.

Bob Paris although fruity looking appears to live a life much healthier then when he was carrying all that body weight for sure...If you're over the age of 45 with a wife and kids, this is the type of weight an adult should be walking around at if he loves his family...
