Bodybuilder rushed offstage in NH

 (Reuters) - Rocker Bret Michaels was rushed offstage apparently suffering from seriously low blood sugar during a New Hampshire concert on Thursday, his bandmate said in a statement posted on the singer's website.

Michaels, who suffers from diabetes, was three songs into his set at the Palace Theater in Manchester, New Hampshire when he had to be led off stage, said guitarist Pete Evick.
"In the 9 years I've stood next to him, I've never seen a look like the one on his face as if I was a complete stranger."

Michaels returned briefly to tell the crowd that he couldn't continue the performance, then was helped offstage and evaluated by paramedics, the statement said.

Michaels' Twitter and Facebook accounts said at midnight on Thursday: "Sending a shout out 2 all the paramedics both on & off duty who assisted Bret tonight. No words can thank you enough for ur help."

In 2010, Michaels was rushed to a hospital overnight with an excruciating headache that turned out to be a brain hemorrhage.

Michaels was formerly the frontman for the 80s glam-rock band Poison, whose hits included the ballad "Every Rose Has Its Thorn." He has since appeared in numerous reality television shows including VHI's "Rock of Love with Bret Michaels."

We used to do the NPC Mr. Mass. up in Manchester N.H. all the time.

They would hold it in conjunction with the Mr. N.H. contest......this was early to mid 2000`s.

Also have done the New England 4-5 times....held in Boston every year.

Still there as is The Jay Cutler Classic.

There`s even a show in Vermont I believe.

These days Steve Weinberger runs New England as well as N.Y. and N.J.,just check the NPC.com website for contest schedules.

As expected, Bret Michaels will not be performing tonight (May 30) in Wilkes-Barre, Pa. after suffering a scary health emergency while onstage last night (May 29) during his solo gig in Manchester, N.H. Michaels’ reps have posted an in-depth statement on what caused the emergency and the reason he’ll be unable to perform tonight.

In it, they reveal that insulin shock and severe low blood sugar factored into the exhaustion, dehydration, fever and noro flu virus that Michaels was suffering at the show. Under strict medical direction, the Poison frontman has been ordered to rest until the flu virus has run its course and his blood sugar has re-balanced. As previously announced, Entertainer Bret Michaels was physically forced to leave the stage last night at the Palace Theater in Manchester, New Hampshire due to complications involving insulin shock & severe low blood sugar, along with other conditions which doctors later determined included exhaustion/dehydration/fever and the noro flu virus. Michaels attempted to return to the stage to finish the show however it was clear to the band, crew, and audience that he would not be able to continue, as he walked of the stage and became violently Ill.

Paramedics present at the show immediately responded and 911 was notified. Unable to keep substance in his system complications with his insulin levels and inability to balance his blood sugar levels arose. Michaels was rushed by ambulance to CMC (Catholic Medical Center), and monitored through the evening as doctors tried to bring his blood sugar back to healthy levels.

Under strict medical direction Michaels will not be able to perform this evening in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania as doctors have ordered him to let the flu virus run it’s course and let his blood sugar rebalance and remain consistent. While hoping to perform tomorrow in Albany, type 1 diabetes complicates health issues such as the nora flu virus and must be monitored and taken very seriously.
Michaels suffers from diabetes and has endured the occasional health scare over the years. Our best wishes go out to Michaels during his recovery period.
