120 lbs dumbells are discrimination against BBers

I live in Memorial. Very close to Memorial City Mall.

Actually, Tiny is real cool about letting anyone learn power lifting at his gym. he has a bunch of high school kids pressing some serious numbers. i don't train there very often because of the drive, but he has meets there all the time and i usually judge them.

cool man i used to live off 290 and fairbanks and moved out to cypress rosehill a few yrs ago, i might have to make a trip to tinys gym one day when i feel like being put to shame...lol

If most guys used proper form with DBs then 120's would likely be their max, with the exception of a few stronger lifters.  Even the stronger lifters, like college power athletes, eventually outgrow the heavy DBs.

It would be nice though if the commercial gyms had them for DB shrugs.

they dont want people who workout hard in their gyms. 120lbs dumbells isnt that bad..i seen many gyms were they dont have more than 85-100lbs dumbells

altho the way most people workout most dont need dumbells much higher than 85lbs

this can be true, sure. and it IS a fair point that generally people strong enough to press more than the 120s likely should stick with a bar. that said, for shrugs and rows i'd like to see a pair of 150s.

Does anyone know what a pair of, lets say 120's, would cost?

My gym is pretty small and recently got rid of the 110's and 120's (don't know why, pretty old and battered, i don't know if that would matter) Maybe they haven't replaced them because they are pretty pricey...

id say around 150-300 pounds

alternatiely buy the plates and the collars and nuts get a welder to do the rest

buy 2 unloaded dumbells (Olympic 50mm, or 30 mm, depend what kind of weights your gym have). Than load the dumbells with plates
up to the weights you will use.

problem with that is the 25s are too wide. can't get a good ROM.
