It wasn't just Republicans. And he needed to be fired, so they did the right thing. It was always going to be an uphill battle.
No reasonable person can look at the condition of that state and see anything other than massive failure by Newsome.
Well, I lived in California for 14 years, from age 8 to 22 and even moved back one time with my wife for less than a year...just long enough to realize that we'd made a mistake. After that, we would visit family down south every couple of years. Eventually, many of our close relatives moved to Oregon to get away from what California had become.....which was a total rat race. All this was long before Newsom came on the scene.
I have fond memories of staying in one of the cottages at the Miramar in Santa Barbara and later at my parent's beach house just south of Santa Barbara. Also, before we moved to 'the valley great memories of my mom and I going to the beach in Santa Monica almost every day during the summer months.
Shortly before my wife and I married, we lived in Laurel Canyon and hung out on 'the strip'. We went to premiers at the major theaters on Hollywood Blvd. and in West Wood at the Village and pretended to hobnob with folks in the movie industry. These were all fun times. Maybe because we were young and didn't have a care in the world. Everything changed once our son was on the way. Suddenly, we realized that West Hollywood was not a great place to raise children and decent housing was slowly becoming unaffordable. The smog was a problem for me with my breathing issues. That's when we moved to Portland.
Sometimes when it has been raining here in Oregon for what seems like months on end, I think about the great pre-smog weather and carefree lifestyle in Southern California fondly only to realize that's long gone.
When you have lived as long as I have, you've seen the world change enormously. Old people, like me like to think and talk about the 'good old days' of our youth. I feel grateful to have lived during the time period I did, because sometimes the world seems to be going to 'hell in a handbasket' and I feel bad for my grandchildren and great-grandchildren when I realize that those of us who were here before them have collectively left a huge mess in our wake.
Getbig is too often a reflection of the bitterness and hopelessness that seems to prevail today. I'm not surprised a lot of you don't get me, you don't have the history and the good memories like mine. On the other hand, many of you have never known anything different or better than what there is today...which is even sadder.
I know this is the rant from a 'soggy' old man. Many, if not most of you will discount it as such. Good for you. It is far better to have a positive outlook with hope for a brighter future for generations to come.
