The government deregulated the banking industry, which proceeded to hold the financial system hostage and demonstrate that it's members, although unelected, are powerful enough to dictate government policy, are poor stewards of the future of the country they feed on, and are criminals who knowingly blackmailed the country for taxpayer funded bailouts after being the ones who sold it down the river in the first place.  Hence the depression.

Also the politicians are bought & paid for, we're committed to a neverending and badly handled war which no one seems to even bother questioning any more in spite of what it costs, the minimum wage is a joke and isn't representative of the value of labor as demonstrated by profits and the cost of living, and the modern financial system is geared to reward those which feed it the most bodies without regard for decency or sustainability.  So laugh it up @ the dying canaries, but if things don't turn around, you "hard workers" might be next.

Odd you seem to omit the key detail which is the internet brought about this change only in the last five-ten years. So don't act like decisions that were made in the 80's were wrong when they started.

Granted I'm not saying some universities don't gouge, but many do not, quality(which is rare) schooling is rather expensive.

Again a quality social sciences degree, isn't about learning about the declaration of independence. It's very much based on anaylsis peer developement, and learning to deal with unknowns, the applied sciences  lack this ability to deal with unknowns, in short they are far too dependent on logic, have almost no forsight or creativity and are infamiliar with the behaviour of people. When most of our current problems are based on people(making shit decisions all round) and unpredictable/unquantifyable such as market panic.

Again even when it's obvious people and their actions are the main problem all you guys do is use reductionist tactics to undermind the importance of people in the market.
