Yeah, 4 out of 100 currently die trying to reach summit of Everest, compared to the 2 most deadly, K2, which 29 out of 100 die and Annapurna, where 34 out of every 100 die.

In the early years of climbing that mountain they didn't have the technology of today. They basically grabbed a coat climbed the mountain that was so heroic. Now with established routes, technology, and full weather they have rich out of shape soccer moms doing it. It still has it's dangers but damn those early guys were heroes of the highest order.

no that is incorrect, I do not know how they came up with one in 4 but over a few 100 people per year attempt the climb and the number of known deaths are just over 200.

The 1 in 4 stat is specific to the over 60s: 1 in 4 climbers over 60 will die on the descent after summiting.
