Who told a story once on GETBIG about trying to train in a gym in Japan, and they wouldn't let you because you had arm tattoos which they link to the Japanese Yakuza?
I'm trying to remember if it was you or someone else who shared that. Random I know, was just on my mind!
-
I don't have tattoos.
But it's right, most gyms don't allow people with tattoos to train.
-
Pretty common in Japan

Oh ok... the poster was saying he'd even have them covered up with a long sleeve shirt but the still refused!

That poster is from a hot spring.
In the gym, you can train if you cover up the tattoos, there are a few foreigners training there with tattoos (covered up).
But this will change over the years, lots of young people have tattoos now.

;D ;D ;D ;D
I don't like tattoos, never did.
But even IF i did, getting a tattoo in Japan is pretty stupid, it throws you down the social ladder to the bottom.

Well you can say the same for European countries especially the mental giants who have a tattoo on their neck hand face or any other
bodypart that you cannot cover up.
When I see a guy (or girl) with a name written on their neck (mostly in curvy kinda fonds) I immediately think... scumbag!!!

Yes, that's pretty stupid.
But in Japan, having a tattoo would limit your social life a lot, even if it is on your arm, if it shows, you might be thrown out of any public place, even restaurants, zoos, whatever.
No pool, no hot spring, no sauna....
-
True Story:
On a social gathering I asked a guy with a tattoo on his neck whos name he has on his neck... his son or daughter?
>He: No its my name
>Me:Right... okay.... nice talking to you
Made a 360 degree spin and moonwalked out of the room

holy shit!!! I didn't know that - amazing.
No wonder the Japanese are the "inventors" of the sleeve tattoos.

He will be glad he has that tattoo when he is 80 years old, has Alzheimer's and got lost on the shopping mall. ;D ;D ;D

Usually it is not THAT bad, we have a huge MMA guy at the gym that never bothers to cover his tattoos up, despite the gym contract says that if you don't have any tattoos when you make the contract but get them AFTERWARDS, your contract might get cancelled by the gym. LOL
But it MAY happen, that you are refused entry to a restaurant, or Disney World, because tattoos scare the other customers. ;D ;D

Lol yeah he just needs to remember that its his name :-\ :D - maybe we should do that with Alzheimer patience.
tattoo their name and address on their forehead.
ACHTUNG ALZHEIMER PATIENCE!!!
If I look lost please take me by the hand and drop me off to the following location:
Its a lot of text but you could cramp it on somebodies forehead if you really want to.

i'm all for this rule. is there anything trashier than a tattoo?
(waiting for the "but it's tribal" assholes to chime in) yes, it might be "tribal" in some places, but stay on that island if you're gonna tattoo your face.

That was Kaged Muscle, aka Kris Gethin, who they didn't let work out at the Gold's Gym out there because he had tatoos on his arms. He was clearly surprised. He ever offered to cover them up with long sleeves, but to no avail.

So you are saying the tattoo signs we posted - DK - and all the other stuff - that was all lies?
BTW: one of my direct reports has a japanese wife and he has lifed in Japan for a long time he also confirmed this.
Back to you

So I guess you are not a Muslim..

No I think the tattoo ban is stupid. I think it's stupid anywhere, in business, everywhere. Fuck looking "decent". :D

where's my freedom from not having to look at your shitty tattoo?
Again, nice try! I have said nothing of what you post above. Just like anything else, if you don't like the look of someone with tattoos, don't look.

-

Yeah i can't stand them as well, always so white, and big, and muscular.
Bad for the Japanese self esteem, better not allow them in. ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D
that's bullshit
:D
No it's not, i can try to make a few pics of the "rules" next time, unfortunately it's forbidden to use your phone behind the lobby and also forbidden to bring cameras or make photos. ::) ::)
Mark you, all i said are the rules in Gold's Gym, i am sure there are other smaller gyms that don't give a shit about tattoos.
-
My gym (in Tokyo) is full - I mean FULL - of Yakuza and there are a lot of tattoos, but they keep them covered up.
I know one guy, an enforcer-fighter type who has a full Irezumi "suit", and the pearls in the dick deal. Well mannered guys, but I don't care how much bigger I am than him, I would not mess with him...
My gym's parent company reportedly has Yakuza connections, and hence the lack of prohibition common in so many other gyms. Then again Yakuza connections in business are pretty common.

Wow, sounds like "fun". :o
Where do you train (ward is enough if you don't want to go into detail)

Actually it is fun.
Most of the guys are real nice and a lot easier to talk to than the average sheltered nipponjin. Just don't accept a dinner invite haha.
One guy tried my standing calf raises on the smith once and almost killed himself. We had a good laugh.
Mintato-ku.

Well, i can imagine they are friendly, i guess they have to be, but all in all i think it's best to avoid them at any cost. The problem is not so much them, but the reaction of others when they learn about your "friends".
It's funny because that is exactly why tattoos are forbidden in Japan, it's not that the people don7T like tattoos out of any aesthetic reasons, they won't let you in because it might scare away OTHERS.
I think you can be glad if your company is known for Yakuza connections, lol, because that makes it a lot easier, some people would lose their jobs if they hang out in a bar accidentally with a Yakuza and somebody from the company saw them....
-
When I was in Japan last I was walking around with sun glasses on and the guy I was with who was older told me to take them off b/c some ppl would see me and think i was yakuza. The culture is very image oriented.
-
Yeah all true. I do not and will have connections with them outside the gym. Most of them I don't know their names and vice versa.
It's not my company I speak of BTW, but rather the gym's parent company. They have pachinko connections.
I work in the finance sector.
My wife is very keen on keeping me from making stupid mistakes like befriending gangsters.

LOL, when was that, 1974? ;D ;D ;D
Nowadays sunglasses are cool with the girls mainly, but i you're right, they are associated with either gaijin or Yakuza.
A lot of people told me gaijin always wear sunglasses because our eyes are different and we can't see in the sun, the Japanese eyes block the rays better. ::) ::) ::) ::) ::) ::) ::) ::) ::) ::) ::) ::) ::)
