I bought a plasma a while ago. It is an HP, but the sales rep told me that the screen is manufactured by pioneer. I just know it looks good for what Im doin, and it was cheap! If I had the money now though, Im not sure what I would buy.

Unless you can get a plasma or LCD larger than 60 inches, I say go with rear projection. They are not quite as clear obviously, but the hi-def still looks great on the newer models and they are a lot thinner and lighter now than what they used to be. Personally I would rather have a 73 inch rear projection than some little 48 inch plasma if they are the same price. I am sure I am in the minority here cuz LCDs and Plasmas are definitely the future, but I like a really big screen and if I am not mistaken the 60 inch plus plasma/LCDs are still upwards of 6 grand(I think), whereas you can get a 73 inch RP by Mitsubishi for like 3000$. For TVs and offices I prefer LCDs or Plasmas though. Does anyone know how big the Plasmas and LCDs are now? Is anyone here happy with a TV that is sub 50"? They just seem so tiny to me.

i believe that, the price will come down in a few years, funny thing is that the TV's we're paying 1000-1500 bucks for now were 4000 bucks a few years ago.

I'll be honest, I actually own the current Sony Bravia 1080p and my best friend owns a similar Samsung....there's not a lot of difference. I'm just loyal to Sony cause I've never had a problem.

Oh hell no, you can great deals on quality high-end tvs at Costco and Sam's.....I bought a 32" lcd by Vizio (had to try out the brand) for my bedroom and loved it. I think I remember BSB bought a Vizio plasma and liked it......so far I think it's a good brand of tv.

I bought a 65 inch Mitubishi a few weeks ago, I was embarrassed to say it cuz all you guys have LCD and Plasmas. :( It's a RP, but I like it. I had(still have) a 53 inch sony and I wanted something bigger, but there was no way I was going to pay 5 grand, so I went the cheap route. My buddy has the same TV and he payed 2400$ about 9 months ago and mine was 1800$. I regret not getting an LCD, but more than anything I wish I had went with the 73 inch Mitsubishi.

Have the shows on my cable are small though. I can zoom, but then it doesn't look as good. Only the Hi-def channels fill out the screen. And there are only like 40 hi-def channels. A lot of shows it's like watching a 50 inch tv, kind of sucks.

Just watched 310 to Yuma last night, it left about 2 inches on the top and the bottom. Have not had a DVD that fills it out perfect like Hi-def TV does yet.

be careful what you watch on that tv... dont want to watch oprah on 65" :-X

I only watch that show if there is going to be a star on it that I like. I need to get my old 53 inch TV up here somehow, this 27 inch TV in my office sucks. I wish MOS and SS were my neighbors. I am not strong enough. >:(

Whats funny is my 65 inch weighs about 40 pounds and the 53 inch weighs about 200 and is bulky. I might have to tell my buddies the first person to come get it can have it, its an eyesore.
-
yeah one need to save the liftings to where it counts - the gym
or one might end up injure oneself

I've owned a 57" Sony RP that it still in excellent condition....great tv, but I replaced it with the newer Sony Bravia 55" SXRD....better than LCD and DLP, but not quite the plasma level....nice in between. This weekend I added a Blu-Ray player and my fuckin mind was blown. I already have a 7.1 home theatre system from Sony (not the best, but I love it) and that coupled with the new 1080p Bravia and the Blu-Ray blew my fuckin mind.
On a sidenote, for those now purchasing HDMI cables for their sets DO NOT purchase any of the fuckin Monster cables. Now, the cables themselves are excellent, but the price is ridiculous...this is the one of hte rare cases in electronics in which you don't get what you pay for. Go to monoprice.com and buy your cables there. I've read all the comparison studies by techy guys and their ain't a lick of difference between a $150 HDMI cable by Monster and my outstanding $12 cable from monoprice.....I've purchased 2 HDMIs from them and they're fantastic. My friend paid $100 for one Monster HDMI and their isn't a bit of difference in quality between his $100 HDMI and my $12 HDMI. I also buy all my speaker wire from Home Depot....12AWG Carol wire that's shielded for in-wall runs is excellent....haven't had a single glitch....again stay away from Monster speaker wire...overpriced and doesn't deliver anymore.

I'm sure you tv or dvd player has full or zoom setting that would eliminate the letter boxing.
-

It does, but it cuts off just a little bit of the screen. If its TOO letterboxed I zoom, but an inch or two is no biggie. Actually I am still playing with it, I may get it to work perfect yet.
-
i bet the name "monster" was what attracted you to those cables to begin with!

I bought some 49 dollar cables for my DVD player and I use whatever cables came free with my cable. My Hi_Def cable blows my DVD out of the water in terms of quality.

AHAHHAHAH!!! Yes, they are appropriately named.

I love my LG Plasma... It's the best that I have owned yet and I doubt that I will sway from LG. Working on getting the whole house done in it. Next step is the Fridge the wife just doesn't see why we need one since this one is 3 months old. I SAID SO was my respones. ;D ;D

I was playing with it and the controller has a button that says format. That changed it to 16:9 wide expand or something, much better.

if you leave it on that it should adjust to the format

I have one of each actually, a 52" plasma and a 42" LCD. I think the Plasma is better for movies but I like to play the xbox360 on the LCD, just seems a little brighter and clearer to me for that :D.
