Well the tension is released at the full extension position and not at the top which is the fully contracted position so you’d have to NOT stretch out all the way to get constant tension. Vince Gironda, Arnold, Samir, Danny and others all advocated touching your chest to the bar. Ronnie has/had a better back then them but I don’t think it’s because of how he chinned.
Yates used a rather dubious version of rowing which i'm not at all convinced exerted anywhere near maximal tension, and had arguably the best back ever, so the whole theory that either full ROM or strict is essential is a joke. As i said, strict and full ROM are often mistaken as better by those who equate it with greater work ethic. Partials are in many ways as good or better, as illustrated by Arnold's preference for cheat curls, AKA partials in terms of full tension. Larry Scott a Gironda disciple didn't use strict form in some cases, and favored partials part of the time.
