Gary Strydom set for comeback in Colorado
« on: March 17, 2006, 04:57:36 PM »
As posted by Lonnie Teper...
http://www.graphicmuscle.com/vbp/forums/showthread.php?t=206

Just got off the phone with Gary Strydom; he's 47 years old, 295 pounds and says he's going to return to the stage at Shawn Ray's Colorado Pro on May 13. I think it's great to see Strydom compete again, he's a large man with nice lines, tight belly, and was always in great condition.

I had Gary and Shawn on the phone at the same time, and naturally Shawn is happy about the news. Question is, how does Darrem Charles, Phil Heath, Vince Taylor and the rest of the guys feel about Big Gary's return

Lonnie Teper seems like a good source.

However if it is true, I would like to see a recent pic of gary.

If he really is 295, he must be Huge

You would definetly say Lonnie Teper is a good source. If he is indeed 295, I hope we dont have an instance of a Don Youngblood, being at such a big weight at older age. Strydom was awesome in his day

Didn't he compete at 260 ?

He could easily weight 295 off season if he is in his old competition size

Yeah I do recall him competing at 260 at 1990 Olympia. Maybe someone else can confirm this.

But he hasnt competed for 10 years, with his last comp in 1996. And im sure for a large time there he supposedly shrunk right down

Yes - Shawn was speaking about Gary, and it looks like he will compete.

Here is Gary at the 2006 Ironman Pro show. With Elsa ... LT's girl

I can confirm that he didn't compete at the 1990 Olympia. He was low around 260 at the '91 WBF.

Yes sorry you are correct.

He has prob a 3XL jacket on

isn't facing the camera straight on

isn't a fat bloated mess

and is really tall

You really have no clue do you

Gary's 6'1" or 6'2", is the thing.  So he's taller than the average bodybuilder and maybe you didn't factor that in.

Milos already said he want to do a comeback and if it was another promoter who was doing the masters, maybe he would enter it

Dan-O: I didn't know he was that tall but I still don't think he looks 295

Well even though bodybuilders exaggerate there weight, it would be feasable that he would be 280+ when he competed at 260, and he is 6'1 im pretty sure

Maybe all the 45+ year olds will come out and play now that all the other competitors have dropped out.  I can see Shawn entering his own contest.

Bring back Levrone as well

this sounds stupid but I remember in Philly back in like 93 every old head graffiti writer came back out and killed everything to inspire all of use to what it was like and what it could still be. Maybe this is similar

Looks like Chick's placing is getting lower and lower with each new competitor mentioned.  Any takers on his wager?
