Mohammed Makkawy 1982, 1983 Olympia.
-
That's pretty much it. Add Labrada, Ray and maybe Corney and that's all.
-
Haney's last Olympia routine was pretty cool.
Hitting the front double bi as the second music kicked in was pretty bad ass.
-
-
Thanks for those TA,i was there that day in 1982 at the Wembley Conference centre to see Makkawy pose,he was the first competitor on stage,i had him placed has high as 4th,i think he was in better condition in 82 compared to 83.I met him in 83 when he trained at our gym, spoke to him for a hour, biggest forearms i`ve ever seen.

I consider those two routines as dramatic performance art. Do you think it could ever return to this, or is it past the point of no return?
-
Back in the 80s every gym i trained at,you would see people spending an hour after the workout practising posing, the best show i saw for posing was the 1988 British Grand Prix, back then everyone had to be a good poser. Then around 93,you had a few who started with the cupping the hand to their ear, asking for applause, and walking from side to side hitting a few shots, and its gone downhill since then.In 1984 Vince Brown was the NABBA UNiverse winner (from 1983),but competed in an EFBB show to qualify for the British finals, and he did the cupping the hand to the ear, walk from side to side, and the judges decided he didn`t do a valid posing routine and gave him zero points in that round, which cost him the contest.

And then followed the mouthing of words, lip-syncing to a rap song.
How would score Kai Greene`s posing routines if you were a judge?

Vince Brown was the dude with the big chest, correct?
-
Remember everyone, bodybuilding is about who has the best physique, which of course has nothing to do with how you pose it ::)
Well done IFBB....
-
Vince Brown was the dude with the big chest, correct?
The guy that got Shawn Ray into bb.
-
These videos bring on a sense of inspiration :-X
-
How would score Kai Greene`s posing routines if you were a judge?
I would give maximum points for his posing and then take away maximum points for his gymnastics.
Kai is potentially one of the greatest posers but his acrobatics are fit for guest posings and not competition.
-
The guy that got Shawn Ray into bb.
No,you`re thinking of John Brown,Vince is from Nottingham in the UK,same as me,he was the other great junior with Brian Buchanan.Vince is the guy on the left in this pic, next to Buchanan,he was only 20 years old here.
-
The thing is,Vince was a great poser, but in this case at this show in 1984 his antics onstage cost him the contest.Who would have thought that a few years later people got rewarded for doing the same thing, and thats when other competitors thought why bother learning a routine, just walk back and forth and hit a bicep shot, then a MM and still get marked in first place.

I got confused, thanks for clarifying it up.

He looked like Brian Buchanan/Flex W/ Melvin Anthony/Jojo T., with traps and a chest...
All of these guys had the same body structure, shape, and tiny small waist, with the same type are chest tie-INS, and clavicle width, I wouldn't be surprised if they could trace their genetics back to the same genepool... Which maybe in the Ghana region

My favorite.

Can't forget Vince Taylor (here @ 50 years old!):

This is the best posing routine of all time!
Will Harris Mr. Olympia 2007 ;D ;D ;D ;D
LOL at 2:10 ! : :D

Old Stuff been posted before but still rocks. Start 1:00.

i expected to see mekawy from the title.. flex wheeler said before that he was affected by mekawy's posing..
beside mekawy sure labrada and taylor must be mentioned as some of the best posers ever.. taylor was the only "dancing poser" who i liked his routines!!..
-
Corney, Zane, Makkawy and Paris come to mind as being able to present their physiques with class and style. Arnold did as well. Style on the dais has long since gone out of style. Class left around the time Yates lowered the bar by upping the dose.

Taylor has always been amazing, drinks scotch and coke and eats hamburgers. Genes rule.

So we have two clear markers of the Downfall of Bodybuilding.
As Crownshep pointed out:
1. Cupping of the ear during the posing routine by Vince Brown which ushered in the lax posing, hip-hop dancing and the strange audience participation.
2. Dorian Yates Upping the Dose.

best posers= makkawy, corney, dickerson, and vince taylor, but cory everson had them all beat.

I agree that some of the women have been the best posers. The best routines stick to one song and don't use mix tapes. The moment a competitor cups their hand to their ear, they should be shown off stage.

Mohammed Makkawy 1982, 1983 Olympia.
We actually agree on something. I saw him live in 1984. His routine was just shy of 5 minutes and no one uttered a word or clapped during the whole routine till the end. I got goosbumps when I watched it. I think it might have been his best ever routine. Actually THE best routine EVER!! Then Bob Birdsong came out and danced like a fag. :(

You can just tell that he put everything he had into it and enjoyed every minute of it. He wasn`t trying to prove anything to anybody, just exhibiting his own art and passion.
-
Here it is 9 Pm and I`m still trying to find the motivation to work my Sticks out downstairs in the basement on the Squat rack. I think I will watch this again and get to work.

"Greatest Posing ROUTINES in Bodybuilding History" if you are heterosexual is there really such a thing. I'd prefer to watch bikini models models walk up and down the stage all day long.
-
Does anybody know the name of the song Mohammed posed to in 82 and 83?

Cheers! Love Vangelis, always reminds me of Carl Sagan's cosmos and Blade Runner!
-

ah...yes they did
-
I remember way back, must have been the very early eighties or very late seventies and saw Boyer Coe on TV posing...must have left an impression because I can still remember thinking, even though I was probably only about 11 or 12, what the hell was going on - muscle men posing to music? But looking back that must have been the heydey of the sport because the posing nowdays seems pretty awful now by comparison.
-
This guy was a good poser too. Look at the amount of real muscle he carries. Insanity.
better back than ronnie's imo!!..

That's what qualifies as better? regardless if the back is no way thicker , wider and just overall bigger?
-

pound for pound benaziza's back was one of the biggest and widest ever..
-
and hey ND as i always like to simplify things for you to understand,.. check this pic. to see how benaziza's back was pound for pound bigger and wider than dorian's in 1992 :P
imo when benaziza died he had the best ever back to date.. dorian's back beat benaziza's level a year later but not on the same stage..
-
best posing routine ever right here, indisputable, syncronization with the music, muscle control, physique display.. on a whole nother level. nobody comes close.

Surely you jest? The guys a fruit fucking, S&M (no, not Spaniards and Mexicans, ace), catalog wearing FAG (no, not a cigarette in the United Kingdom, chumley).
But you already knew that and still posted the above quoted dribble. That is why you are a self proclaimed pin cushion. No worries, champ. Just here to set the record straight, even if no one (including your mother) seems to be able to set you straight (and yes, I mean normal, as in totally heterosexual).
Kai Greene? Fuck that noise. ©™
-
makkaway usually posed to chariots of fire.

Yeah.... Durkah durkah, mohammed jihad. ;D Fluid? Fluid? He's as fluid as wet cement flowing uphill. Kai's as fluid as the cream pie oozing from his dirt star. He's a fruit fucking fag and air humps on the dais.
Fuck that noise.

Men of muscle should NOT be posing all slinky and sensual, ever. I hate all this swivelling of the hips and dumb-ass dance crud. Be like Arnold and hit shots in a hard, precise and manly way.
I was at the Olympia once and Dexter started gyrating and shit and me and my buddy stood up and walked out. No lie. Zero tolerance.
The more years I engage in powerlifting, the more I have come to very much dislike the whole dancing-muscleman aspect of BB competition. I want no part of it. When I competed, I did as Arnie did, and my music was masculine music (heavy metal), not some soft and romantic crappola that does nothing but suppresses testosterone production.
>:(

I hate Kai's gimmick routines, but must give credit where credit is due, yes good posing routine in this particular show, but not the best ever, C'mon tbombs
-

easily the best ever
check out 0:40 - 1:05 ... that choreography is off the hook.... his entire routine is an a different level
and you want to talk about projecting power and masculinity? nobody does it better than kai, NOBODY
masculinity isnt about being dull and boring, its about being ferocious and beastly. the slow routines of the 80's competitors being posted where the emphasis is on holding signature poses to classical sounding music is very far from beastly and ferocious. kai is a fucking animal on stage, a sexy, extremely talented, extremely flexible, extremely coordinated and stylistic beast of a man. hes routines are exactly how a bodybuilder should be, a combination of a beastly predator on the prowl for pray, a male stripper, and an anthropomorphized god displaying his might.
-
tbombs listen carefully...BODYBUILDING, BODYBUILDING, BODYBUILDING....The best Bodybuilding posing routine has to be artistic, unique, all the good points you stated but also 1 more mandatory criteria that this routine lacks, no bodybuilding judge on the planet will agree with you because....because... wait....... wait..... THERE IS NO MANDATORY POSES in his routine, so techniquely it's not even complete, hence can never be the greatest, this is bodybuilding not just some random act of artistic movements, impossible to judge a body without a mandatory pose,... awesome routine no doubt, but to be considered a bodybuilding routine, has to have mandatories in the routine.
-
My favorite.
yes and YES
that s the greatest i ve ever seen and i ve seen all pros sins 1970
-

Yes agree, best of all time.
LOOK tbombs....2-3 side chest, 2 front lat spreads, 2 back doubls, 2 abs and thighs, 2 back lats, 2-3 front doubles, 1 side tri and 2 variations of most muscular vs Kai only 1 front double and thats it :P
-
pound for pound benaziza's back was one of the biggest and widest ever..
Now you're amending your statement to pound-for-pound , his back isn't anywhere near as wide or thick as Ronnie even on a pound-for-pound scale . I'll give you drier than this shot but even on a pound-for-pound scale he doesn't touch this in thickness or width
-

mandatory poses are used to compare bodybuilders side by side. they are very useful for that end. in fact it provides a nearly perfect comparison between bodybuilders. posing routines can never provide a clear comparison between physiques as there is only one person on the stage at a time. for that reason the mandatory poses no longer provide the kind of physique assessment qualities they usually do and become far less valuable for physique presentation. the posing rutine is about displaying your body not as a statue side-by-side with other statues but as yourself, as a moving, breathing human being, nay animal, and the idea is to project as much power, masculinity, style, ferociousness, agility, muscle control, etc as possible.
