His lifestyle never ends well.

He won't recover.

I don't necessarily think he's a bad guy, but he is an extremely weak-minded fool who has allowed his crutches (i.e. vices) to derail what could have been a wonderful second half of life.

Now he's got HIV. No, it's not the death knell it once was, but it's a major-shit disease, nonetheless. With it, you're polluted for the rest of your existence. Your very blood is potentially lethal to another.

Doesn't exactly make one feel great about himself.

Ya know , I've had this conversation with OMR and others before about how it's " not a death sentence " and how " it's very treatable" but this couldn't be further from the truth.  My wife is a DON at an end of life care agency and this disease is horrific still.  Cocktails do not work for all, you are susceptible to everything, bronchitis almost always turns to pneumonia and it's usually not the only disease your suffering from if you have it.  If a person takes great care of themselves, has a strong immune system beforehand and tolerates drug cocktails well you can live for a long time but otherwise your fucked.

yeah, it is all about immune system and avoiding inflammation.

many people get HIV and they go vegan, do yoga, end all stress, and live well.
others drink whiskey nightly with takeout and worry all day.  that kills them.
