Was it 91 or 92 he tried the Olympia comeback? This was back when the leg machines were still in the first room in Venice. I was working out next to him he was doing leg presses. In between sets he'd rest on the weights that were piled on the press. I just remember the forearms on the son of a bitch. And I've seen about everyone who was anyone over the last forty years involved in bb. His forearms were snaked with veins n were as large as hamhocks. In person one of the most impressive bb I've ever seen. I've seen him seems like hundreds of times since but nothing ever like that comeback year. Yeah. Unf I think he comes off as pretty much a dick, it's not just that he's deaf, the man seems to have issues, I know several deaf people and they r extremely polite etc. Lou seems to have no patience for anyone. But respect to one big as bb

Guy's a knob, but he was seriously HUGE during his comeback. I also viewed the man in the flesh (no homo) during this period. I was training with Platz at World Gym and Louie was also there. The man was simply gigantic. Walking about the gym, it was next to impossible to imagine ANYONE beating him for the Olympia. Of course, we all know something happens, either positively or negatively, to the physique, when posing thongs are donned.

Regarding his comeback, I didn't get why he placed 10th. I thought he looked great. I think the next year he over dieted and looked a little depleted at the Master's O, which Robby won.

Guy who owned the old World Gym in Dublin had Lou train there back in the day. Said he was the biggest person he has ever seen - just everything was massive (waist too). Said his hands were like bear paws on the exercise bike. That picture with Dillet would suggest it is true.

Compared to the modern BBers of the early-mid 90s (Nasser, Dorian, Shawn), he was nothing special. Sure, he finally discovered the leg press and squat rack and grew some wheels, but he was past his prime by then so the impact wasn't as shocking as if he'd done it in the mid-80s. But he also did compete at the Masters level, so it's not like those guys I mentioned were his competition. It's just that he wasn't that big a deal either.

Never impressed by his early 90s comeback, looked like a keg-waisted giant fridge with no standout bodyparts, plus those funky calves... Ferrigno was never ever 6'5 or 6'4, look at that picture with Dillett, who is a 6' footer himself, peak Ferrigno was between 6'2 and 6'3, nothing more... He looked far better in the 70s and 80s, where he was able to sport a decent sized waist with great size overall...

Lou looks great and his wife is a real beauty too. He is one of the all time greats of bodybuilding. As Bing Crosby said when asked about Frank Sinatra, "A Sinatra comes along once in a lifetime. Why did it have to be my lifetime?"
Same story for Lou with Arnold.
Having said that, Lou has nothing to really be ashamed of with his career and life. I still would have chosen him over Yates in the Mr. Olympia, and especially over Robinson for the Masters Olympia but then I'm not a judge. It's my hope he lives a long and healthy life with his beautiful wife and family.

I've set it before and I'll say it again. If he had stepped onstage in 1982/1983 in his Hercules condition (262-271 pounds) at 6'4", he would have smoked the competition (even dwarfing a very green Haney).

I read an book Ferrigno wrote decades ago where he talked about his life and his training when he first started bodybuilding. Lou stated that he would eat at least 3 cans of tuna fish a day, and that tuna was his #1 protein source when he started competing.

im not gonna lie, when i was 15 or so i used to stay home on friday nights to watch THE INCREDIBLE HULK at 8pm, id watch that n b so amped up id train in my home gym right after it went off, man when he hit that most muscular shot on the HULK it was INCREDIBLE ;)

I read an book Ferrigno wrote decades ago where he talked about his life and his training when he first started bodybuilding. Lou stated that he would eat at least 3 cans of tuna fish a day, and that tuna was his #1 protein source when he started competing.
It was up until his last contest master )1994 ..

I suspect its Lou's long-term tuna intake that gave him his longevity.

Massive lou. When I see pictures of him in a normal setting when he is massive,he is a beast. Yet when I see him losing on the Dias his physique just turns weird. His biceps seem flat, his fucking head is a giant pumpkin, his lats are high. His hair is like an Italian afro , just too much hair on top of his giant fucking pumpkin head. apparently many years ago lou and hogan appeared on a chat show, the host noticed that hogan was bigger than the hulk, height and size and so he got dubbed hulk hogan ever since. I can't find any images of this appearance or a video. Hulk was likely 6'7" back in the day but after all those surgeries he's under 6'5" now.

Lou had an amazing physique and seems like a generally good guy. He gets a 'raw deal' on these boards because he charges for photos. Not every celebrity has made consistent money in ventures outside of being a celebrity. Guys like Lou may rely on the money from glossy photos as a big part of their income.

In Louie's defense, at least he is still married to his wife, the mother of his only children. He was married once before, but got out of by saying he had no idea what the minister was saying cuz his hearing aide batteries were dead and he never got paid for the pictures that were taken that day.

Only builders know to the general public apart from Arnold. Lou had a great physique in the seventies. And, in contrast to all blown up midgets, he was 6 ft 5.
He was actually 6'4" legit and is 6'2"-6'3" today (65 years old and has had both hips replaced).

Was it 91 or 92 he tried the Olympia comeback? This was back when the leg machines were still in the first room in Venice. I was working out next to him he was doing leg presses. In between sets he'd rest on the weights that were piled on the press. I just remember the forearms on the son of a bitch. And I've seen about everyone who was anyone over the last forty years involved in bb. His forearms were snaked with veins n were as large as hamhocks. In person one of the most impressive bb I've ever seen. I've seen him seems like hundreds of times since but nothing ever like that comeback year. Yeah. Unf I think he comes off as pretty much a dick, it's not just that he's deaf, the man seems to have issues, I know several deaf people and they r extremely polite etc. Lou seems to have no patience for anyone. But respect to one big as bb

apparently many years ago lou and hogan appeared on a chat show, the host noticed that hogan was bigger than the hulk, height and size and so he got dubbed hulk hogan ever since. I can't find any images of this appearance or a video. Hulk was likely 6'7" back in the day but after all those surgeries he's under 6'5" now.
Hogan said on a kids tv show i watched back in the 90's that he got the hulk name because he beat lou in an arm wrestling match, so not sure whats true.

I want to clarify a few things, the reason why I post mostly incredible hulk gifs and pics, and some Hercules and bodybuilding material, is because Lou Ferrigno inspired me to become a bodybuilder, as a child I would watch the incredible hulk. I remember being 3 yrs old and thinking I wanted to be like that when I grow up. Many don't believe that I was able to think like that at age 3 but I was already able to think like that, although I didn't talk. I have also tried similar threads on bodybuilding.com but I keep getting banned from that site, so I come back here. With each gif and pic that I post, I become inspired, with each gif and pic I feel why I started this bodybuilding journey, and now at age 40 I feel more inspired than ever to pursue bodybuilding, 100% natty

In a previous post, you told a member to stop being rude to you as that is online bullying and won't be tolerated.
In some of your recent comments, you've been 'snarky' (can't think of a better word) to a poster who merely commented on Lou's attractiveness; saying they are probably gay and a post that has the tone of a homophobic slur.
You've posted lots of great Lou pics and gifs (granted, a bit repetitive... but hey, it's Big Lou)... but you should also take notes from yourself and ease up on the wisecracks. This is a picture posting thread and ego's are best left out of it.

as an ex personal trainer I can tell you that pecs like Lou, Arnold, Serge and Haney were built on heavy barbell and Dumbell bench press movements
today all those cable variations and hammer machine are the result of what you see on stage....
All this new Chest cable from different angles BS workouts were created so people would keep hiring trainers for longer periods of time ...

Also the myth of training the upper chest so much, the upper chest is important, but bodybuilders today need to be careful because unless they have good chest genetics, concentrating too much on incline movements results in massive front delts, and once this happens you get that huge delts/ small chest syndrome

Not sure if he posts here anymore, I doubt it. Lou's younger brother had messaged me a few times during the lawsuits days. I had asked similar questions to which he told me. Lou was a real jerk to the family he would nott let them use green paint on the Ferigno family gym and was upset with them saying they where trying to make a living on his name. He would not even consider working with them in the enterprise when they asked him before hand. He had a real grudge against his dad apparently. I will have to look at the message I got from him. Basically from what Lou's brother said he was being an asshole to the whole family.

He would have been a top contender and may have won an Olympia if he didn't go on to do The Incredible Hulk. Could he have beaten Lee Haney? Good question. Lou was a little overshadowed by Arnold but he had a pretty good physique and even improved on it for movie roles, e.g. Hercules was arguably his best ever physique up until his comeback.
With respect to Ron who goes out and does many positive things within the bodybuilding and fitness (two very separate things) community, virtually every thread in the G&O is worthless.

probably,,,everything changed by 90's minus the drug tesed year lol....gh/insulin came in and the builds grew tenfold from 80's,,you can see even the 80's guys like demey/gaspari/labrada to a degree physiques changed.

If your just looking @ it physique wise I don’t think he would of beaten Zane in the late 1970s too complete, Conditioned, proportioned and Zane’s prime years.
Lou,s best chance was the immediate years after Arnold retired if Lou had entered in 1976...that would of been his BEST chance other than that..
between 1980-1982 with 3 different guys sharing it around NONE of them in their prime years...Arnold @ 80% in 1980, Franco with no legs and shocking Gyno in 1981 and Dickerson torned biceps and torned chest in 1982,
After 1983 Forget it...he would never of beaten a prime Bannout ditto against Lee Haney in ANY year with the obvious exception of the 1990 Olympia.
Bye the time he did actually come back in 1992...the sport was again heading in a different direction that Lee Haney had set during his reign between 1984-1991 with a different level in physique standards in Yates, Levrone, Ray, etc too his credit Lou IMO was @ his absolute best in 1992 (sans his ridiculous calf implants) and got relegated too 12th if memory serves correctly...12th...at his best.

Good point. Lou made the right choice, because it's unknown whether a role like that would come up again. He'd already won multiple major championships and Arnold was retired at that point, so there wasn't much left to prove.

Bye the time he did actually come back in 1992...the sport was again heading in a different direction that Lee Haney had set during his reign between 1984-1991 with a different level in physique standards in Yates, Levrone, Ray, etc too his credit Lou IMO was @ his absolute best in 1992 (sans his ridiculous calf implants) and got relegated too 12th if memory serves correctly...12th...at his best.
Louie outmassed Zane by an incredible amount and 1974 proved he was able to get shredded. Louie in his 1974 Olympia/Universe shape would have given a 1977 Zane a run for his money. He was actually looking to replicate that, in some of the photos from his training that year. Having said that, Zane bit beat a bigger Robby, so obviously it wasn't just size that would have won it.

At that point, I don't think he cared. Ferrigno was making bank, doing movies after a successful stint at the Incredible Hulk (the role which caused him to stop competing in the 70s).
Besides, to the average Joe, being Mr. Universe (which Ferrigno did twice, at least the IFBB's version of that title) is more prestigious.
Even to this day, Arnold Schwarzenegger is referenced more as Mr. Universe than he is as Mr. Olympia.
