Lee Labrada speaks out on the current state of bodybuilding on http://muscleradio.com/past/index.html. He talks about today's physiques and says the system rewards the wrong things. He feels things are with going backwards since the 1990 Mr. Olympia, "Bloated, Blocky and out of proportion no relevance to symmetry."

Lee also speaks on his first Olympia competition, what it was like being 26 and winning his pro debut, flawed judging and much, much more.

since the 1990 O? no....i would say it got out of hand around 2000 or so...

Kind of. There are a lot of bloated, blocky, out-of-balance physiques out there, but I really don't see them winning many top shows. So far this year it's been Phil Heath twice (with Darrem Charles in 2nd both times), Dexter Jackson, Ronnie Rockel, Gustavo Badell and Lee Priest. Badell can be bloated and Priest doesn't have the best balance, but they're not really bad offenders.

Correct me if I'm wrong... but smaller guys are winning shows outside the O. I'm assuming he'd have Richard Jones take down Ronnie. Where did he get 1990? Wouldnt that fall under Haney's reign?

How in the hell is Ron suppose to lose the O b/c of some bloat but he kills the rest of the dogs in other categories? Based on the photo.... he isnt anything close to being blocky, and he has nice sweep to his thighs. Ladarda's flaw was 5"2". It is still bbing... which means to build muscle.

Listen to the show and you'll hear his answers to all the questions you asked. He states 1990 because that was the year they drug tested and then revoked it after that. He considers Haney one of not the best of all time. He also states that the smallery guys today are trying to build mass to catch up to the others, which he feels is a mistake and points the finger at the judging and the drugs.

I would rather see the physiques of the 80's. But you cannot stop progress.

Its like drag racing. You can watch the street legals which are within reason for us. Or you can watch the top fuel nitros and alcohol dragsters.

Thats why i think there should be weight classes in bodybuilding.
Lumping a 13 second car with a 3.9second dragster is no good for anyone.

IMO, taking more gear and training less is not progress....it's taking a step backwords. Todays "pro's" train half as much as they used too compared to that of the 70's, 80's and early 90's!!
