Title: No legs=not a bodybuilder
Post by: Primary Captain on October 21, 2014, 08:50:38 AM
Powerful quads, thick hamstrings and big strong calves are what defines a bodybuilder. Nobody wants a guy with scrawny legs around. It doesn't matter how many curls and pec-deck you do. If you have no legs you are NOT a bodybuilder.

Unfortunately the board shorts wearing male beauty pageant contestant goofballs in the physique division might disagree.

I'm going to be competing in mens physique in 6 weeks because I'm not big enough for bodybuilding  :(
I train legs 2ce a week and its my favorite training day, but they just don't seem to respond. I've tried training them 1ce a week, every other day, at one point i trained them every single day but that only lasted 2 weeks until my knees started to hurt. No response though  :(
I'm hoping mens physique will stop wearing those goofy shorts and go to something like what the WBFF does and give the competitors some legit bodybuilding poses to do, instead of that hand on hip crap.

Half of this board will disagree, claiming "girls" don't care about legs and huge legs are not practical. Yeah, huge arms and chest are practical as fuck.

345lbs  :'(
But that was about half a year ago, I never do 1 rep max, only tried it once.
I usually stick to 10 - 20 reps (depending if I'm dieting or not) with 225lbs. and then i'll go up to 315lbs and do 5 or 6 reps of that, then back down to 275, 245, 225, 135.
I seem to do better with higher reps, but I keep that 315 5 - 6 rep set in there just in case  :P

Yep, completely ridiculous.  Most women don't want a man with chicken legs, but not necessarily "big legs" either.

I think it again comes back to the infamous swimmer's build for most women.

If a guy has a good upper body, and he reveals his legs to his women for the first time and they are skinny, I doubt she is going to throw her arms up in the air and say, "you have chicken legs. i am dumping you."

As long as her man looks good in a shirt so she can brag to her friends about her boyfriends body. Thats all that matters.

i've had acne on my legs for like a decade

way before steronz

my theory was also that acne indicates that area is anabolizing

thats why when natural i only had it on my quads and i was a T-rex

Quads and hams grow from fuck all. I believe thighs are part genetic (obv) but also show hard work more than any other bodypart. Calves are genetic - moreso than any other bodypart. Starting to come along now but I have gone from 2x per week to 3-4x per week which is serious workload.

I tried a t-nation (no homo) workout for calves. 100 reps of calf raises with a 25 on each hand. In a row. Every day for a month. It hurt and sucked, but I did it. And damned if my fucking calves didn't grow 1/2" in a month.

The first three days, I couldn't walk.

I remember Johnnie Jackson saying he would do same thing...

Funny thing is if I don't train them for three or four days can notice loss in size (and vascularity) so that is prob temp swelling.

I recently switched to high reps lower weight. I never used to do 20 reps with 225, i saved my energy for the 315 (still a2g with good form, I don't consider it a squat if it doesn't break parallel). But nowadays I can only do maybe 15 reps max with 225 cause I'm down in weight and the carbs are low  :'( So I just hang around 225 and do that for as much as I can, then drop down to 135 and rep out until I can't squat back up with it. I mean, I see the difference in my legs, more cuts, fuller muscle post-workout, but I also attribute that to getting leaner.

I HEAR U MAN,WHEN I WAS ON LOW CARBS I WAS LUCKY TO GET 10 REPS WITH 225 ON SQUAT,I WAS LUCKY JUST TO GET TO THE GYM CAUSE MY ENERGY WAS SO LOW,LOW CARB TIMES I RELY MORE ON LEG PRESS AND LUNGES CAUSE IM SO TIRED, I ALREADY LOST MY BALANCE SQUATTING FROM NO ENERGY AND LUCKILY I DIDNT GET HURT.I WAS DOING ZERO CARBS AND ON MY 4TH DAY

QFT, I remember Chris Dickerson in his prime during the 80's say he never goes over 225lbs when he squats. Hell,  Wilf Sylvester won the light weight Universe doing nothing but 400 body weight squats with leg extensions and leg curls. The squat racks in bodybuilding gyms are normally used for curls. If they are used everyone puts 405 on the bar and does little shallow dips grunting like they are really doing some work. I think if you do squat it should be like an Olympic lifter. Fairly narrow stance and sinking it as far as you can go keeping fairly upright.

The first thing we'll see is arms and chest, then I look for a tight midsection. If he passes by and the front was was nice *I* actually look at shoulder development, see I like muscular men. Then I look at ass, admittedly its to see if his thighs and ass are thick and developed for thrusting purposes. Real talk. As I stated earlier, nice calves are a def plus.

If you are able to complete this workout I guarantee you massive quads.

ass to grass squats 5 sets 25 to 30 reps
walking lunges  5 sets 20 reps
leg press   5 sets 20 reps ( go all the way down on the dam legpress)
stiff legged deadlifts  5 sets 15 reps
leg curls 5 sets 15 reps

A good woekout but i dont find ass to grass squats any more effective even deteimental.paralel will do there is no measurable difference in leg development

if you have the flexibility, ass to grass is great
while keeping your torso as straight as possible

deep front squat is the GOAT exercise for quad imo
no need to go heavy too

A lot of dudes on this thread with no legs trying to explain to the world why it's alright to have no legs.
