Saw this recipe somewhere online and I adjusted it slightly - they came out better than any bar I've ever bought. Total time was about 10 min to make and 30 min to bake:
1 cup raw oatmeal
1 cup oatmeal - blended into a powder
1 banana
3 -4 scoops natural peanut butter
5 scoops vanilla protein powder
1 tblspn oil
1 whole egg
3 egg whites
handful of almonds
1 tblspn wheat jerm (recipe called for flax seed)
1/2 cup cottage cheese *this wasn't in the recipe but the mixture was too dry without it, you could also use yogurt
preheat oven to 325. mix all the above in bowl, spoon/pour into a 8x8 glass pan (spray with pam). add cinnamon (I also threw on two packets of splenda on top and had to use nutmeg since I didn't have cinnamon) on top. cook for 30-40 min - cut into 6 bars and place on alum. foil. put in fridge or freezer depending on how solid it is.
each bar is around 30 grms protein, 35 grms , 7-8 grms fat.

thats cool dude!

Did you bake it? May also not want to add in the cottage cheese.

Sometimes you just gotta play with recipes to get them right for you. There's so many variables here - ie; brands and measures...

How long did you bake it? You may want to try 350 deg for 35 min or so. I watched it in the oven because I wanted them to just be hard enough to keep their shape so I could form it into bars on the aluminum foil. Mine was still fairly soft in the middle of the pan, but it held together pretty well.
You could keep the cottage cheese out as Princess said. I didn't have it in their originally but it was still too powdery. I think once you tweak it they should come out like a Trioplex bar after sitting in the fridge overnight. I ate 2 right away though ;D and they're pretty darn good warm too. I'm switching to some light and fit yogurt for the next batch but I'll try 1/4 cup and see how they turn out...how'd it taste either way?

Candy Bars and Granola Bars are Better.
Not to mention Home-Baked Cookies and Cakes of all types.

cool.
well i baked it for 35 minutes and maybe i should have cooked it less cos mine was hard as a rock.
maybe i was meant to take it out while it was still soft?

I have had this happen to me every time I've tried making my own bars. Guess the protein denatures when it's cooking and therefore it goes hard. Any solutions?

Best thing to do is check the mix every 10 minutes or so. it still should be somewhat soft when you take it out because it will harden as it cools. I used a cheap Vitamin shoppe 100% whey protein because I wasn't sure how it would turn out. I don't know if the type of protein will matter.

Did you try it? I like these more than candy or granola bars, and calorie for calorie you can't beat it for the money.
If you like cake, make these and add icing. ;D

how do you blend the second cup of oatmeal into a powder

Any food processor will work. Even a blender should work. A coffee grinder would work too.
BTW ~ this is how oat flour is made. ;)

Hahahahahahahahaha!!!!!!!!
;D ;D ;D
Ask the same person you asked "how do I get this milk into a glass?", they should be able to help you again! ( :D)

This thread is hilarious!
"Mine came out like pudding"
"They came out hard as a rock"
DL5, did you spend all day trying to make these things?
On ya mate! lmao!

Mine came out fine, they were like bars/brownies in terms of how hard they were. thanks
ps. BigCypriate, I would snap you in half

you are THE GRECIAN IDEAL!

Kroger (East Lansing MI) had the myoplex bars on the "reduced" rack selling for $.49, even then I thought that it was over priced.

I wasn't picking on the recipie. I just got a kick out of DL5's baking efforts. We aren't all master bakers like you.

Since you're not big on supplements anyway, make them without and replace the protein powder with more oatmeal/oatmeal powder, you still have a healthy bar and all the fiber should help clear out the plaque build up in your arteries from the McDonald's and ice cream. ;)
For me, I've made another two batched this week and they both came out perfect, slightly harder than a muffin but not Trioplex brick hard either. Closest to those scone things they sell at starbucks. I eat two of these a day now, but since I'll be cutting down on the carbs soon I'll be replacing about half of the oatmeal/oatmeal powder with more protein powder. If anyone's tried any other variations, post em...

protien bars have soy protein. I never touch nor eat a protein bar because of this one rule.
-
nothing wrong with soy protein. Its a myth that it increases oestrogen levels.
