"Until I came to the US, I couldn’t imagine that things like gender pay gap still existed in today’s world. Say what you will about old USSR, there was no gender pay gap there. Market doesn’t always ‘know best,’" Omarova tweeted in 1999, adding (after receiving harsh criticism) "I never claimed women and men were treated absolutely equally in every facet of Soviet life. But people’s salaries were set (by the state) in a gender-blind manner. And all women got very generous maternity benefits. Both things are still a pipe dream in our society!"

The Margaret Thatcher socialism quote comes to mind. These people never learn, they love the idea of splitting up pieces of somebody else's pie.

It would be funny if it was at a student rally, not at this high level of govt.

Biden's approval slumps after a slew of crises: AP-NORC poll

WASHINGTON (AP) - President Joe Biden's popularity has slumped after a slew of challenges in recent weeks at home and abroad for the leader who pledged to bring the country together and restore competence in government, according to a new poll by The Associated Press-NORC Center for Public Affairs Research.

Fifty percent now say they approve of Biden, while 49% disapprove. Fifty-four percent approved in August, and 59% did in July. The results come as Americans process the harried and deadly evacuation from Afghanistan, mounted border patrol agents charging at Haitian refugees, the unshakable threat of the coronavirus with its delta variant and the legislative drama of Biden trying to negotiate his economic, infrastructure and tax policies through Congress.

Since July, Biden’s approval rating has dipped slightly among Democrats (from 92% to 85%) and among independents who don’t lean toward either party (from 62% to 38%). Just 11% of Republicans approve of the president, which is similar to July.

Approval also dipped somewhat among both white Americans (49% to 42%) and Black Americans (86% to 64%).

In follow-up interviews, some of those who had mixed feelings about Biden's performance still saw him as preferable to former President Donald Trump. They said that Biden was dealing with a pandemic that began under the former president, an Afghanistan withdrawal negotiated on Trump's behalf and an economy that tilted in favor of corporations and the wealthy because of Trump's tax cuts.

“Trump had a lot to do with what’s going on now,” said Acarla Strickland, 41, a health care worker from Atlanta who voted for Biden yet now feels lukewarm about him.

As a mother of four, Strickland said she has benefited from the monthly child tax credit payments that are flowing as part of Biden's $1.9 trillion coronavirus relief package.

Somewhat? That is cratering approval...among 75% + of the USA population. Talk about spin.

What they forgot to mention in this article is the worst stat....only 34% total polled say the country is headed in the right direction.

Then consider the poll source and realize stats are 25% worse than stated.

This chant has really taken off, and I understand why people are upset, but I think it's disrespectful.

This level of incompetence is beyond disrespectful words. Once again today his staff ran him off the podium after he said he'd take questions.

Welcome to The Daily 202! Tell your friends to sign up here. On this day in 1947, President Harry S. Truman gave the first televised presidential address from the White House. He asked Americans to conserve food to provide emergency aid to famine-hit Europe. (First president to win an Emmy, though? That would be Dwight D. Eisenhower.)

The big idea
Biden has a Christmas problem. And it's not Anthony Fauci

President Biden has a Christmas problem. And it has nothing to do with Anthony S. Fauci saying on Sunday that he doesn’t know yet whether it’ll be safe in 80 days for families to get together to celebrate, then backtracking a day later.

Biden’s problem is this: Severely disrupted global supply chains sending prices skyward (and not in Santa’s sleigh), playing havoc with inventory, and potentially making it harder for Americans to be certain they’ll have the desired presents come the holidays.

Or, as my colleague David Lynch recently put it: “The commercial pipeline that each year brings $1 trillion worth of toys, clothing, electronics and furniture from Asia to the United States is clogged and no one knows how to unclog it.”

Biden’s core promise to voters in 2020 was that he would be a steady hand, singularly focused on smothering the pandemic and reviving the economy. The soaring death toll from the Delta coronavirus variant, and the ensuing economic sputters, have tested that vow, and holiday strains could fray it further. And the president’s economic agenda faces an uncertain fate in Congress, where Democrats are puzzling out how to avoid a default on debt payments in the face of a lockstep GOP refusal to help.

So, how clogged is that pipeline? CBS LA reported Monday that “as many as half a million shipping containers on cargo ships off the ports of LA and Long Beach, waiting to be offloaded.”

And the cost of renting those containers has soared, David noted. “This month, the median cost of shipping a standard rectangular metal container from China to the West Coast of the United States hit a record $20,586, almost twice what it cost in July, which was twice what it cost in January, according to the Freightos index.”

It’s like what you hear out of Washington is completely divorced from the real world. This whole Fauci line got all the press. Does he not know that there have been events over the entire country which thousands of people have gathered indoors: Concerts, ball games Broadway shows, MMA etc.

My 401K has really thrived since Biden and Harris became President and Vice President-elect.  Thank you Donald for mishandling the virus and running a petty, bitter, juvenile campaign.

I know, right?  It sucks that my 401K is through the roof and that I'm gonna have a normal, healthy summer thanks to most of us being vaccinated by then.  Wish I could have a do over.

Hammered: Biden falls to 38%, ‘not competent,’ ‘honest’
by Paul Bedard, Washington Secrets Columnist |   | October 06, 2021

In the worst showing since becoming president, President Joe Biden’s approval has fallen to its lowest ever, and the public no longer feels his team is competent, honest, or led well.

As Biden struggles to recover from the bungled Afghan withdrawal and an interparty feud over his spending and tax agenda, his approval has sunk to just 38% in the latest Quinnipiac University Poll. A majority, 53%, disapprove.

The survey follows a similar pattern in other polls, notably Gallup, that recently had his approval at a poor 43%.

While partisanship remains as strong as it was during the Trump era, independents are weighing in heavily against Biden. By nearly 2-1, independents disapprove of Biden, 60%-32%.

Of special note in the new survey, the public appears to have lost faith in Biden’s abilities. According to the survey:

More than half say 55%-42% said the Biden administration is not competent in running the government.
Fifty percent said Biden is not honest, while 44% said he is.
Forty-one percent said he has “good leadership,” while 56% said he doesn’t.
Fifty-five percent disapprove of his handling of the economy.
Fifty-eight percent disapprove of his job as commander in chief.
Sixty-seven percent said he's wrong on immigration and border issues.

“Battered on trust, doubted on leadership, and challenged on overall competency, President Biden is being hammered on all sides as his approval rating continues its downward slide to a number not seen since the tough scrutiny of the Trump administration,” said Quinnipiac University polling analyst Tim Malloy.
