Let's assume they were taken there between 2016 thru 2019, they technically should have been turned over to the National Archives as soon as Biden took office. Practically, these documents likely end up mixed in with personal documents which are government property.

The big issue here is going to be Trump's refusal to relinquish them after leaving office. He should have played dumb and claimed he did not know he was in possession of them after his term of office.

Since it has been reported they were moved either inadvertently or intentionally when Trump vacated the White House, it follows that these documents were not at Mar-a-Largo prior to 2020. I don't believe it is reasonable to assume they were there prior to that time.

It wasn't a 'nothing burger' until classified documents started showing up at Biden and Pence's homes. Whether those discoveries are enough to get Trump off the hook, remains to be seen.

Neither you nor I can do more than have an opinion about how it. We can argue the differences between these three situations all we want but ultimately, the Justice Department will determine whether it is a nothing burger or not. If it makes you feel any better, the discovery of classified documents in Biden and Pence's possession definitely complicates things, IMO.

So I’m glad you apparently now understand that we do know precisely what the alleged period of unlawful possession is for Trump:  from the moment he left office until the tyrannical raid by the FBI.

It doesn't matter when the docs showed up at Mar a Lago (though I suspect all or at least a large majority arrived AFTER he was no longer POTUS) and it doesn't matter if they were declassified or not (and of course there is no evidence that they were declassified since that is a process that involves other groups and isn't just by the POTUS "thinking" about it)

The documents are GOVERNMENT PROPERTY and they don't belong to private citizen Trump

The government informed Trump they were missing and he failed to return all the documents and even after a subpoena was issued he continued to retain documents and LIED about it which is obstruction.

That's the bottom line.  This is government property and he knowingly retained them and LIED about it.

That is why he's facing legal jeopardy.  The obstruction and lying and failure to return docs that he's been informed don't belong to him is the issue.

He was also informed by his former attorney of the legal consequences of retaining documents that didn't belong to him, both classified and unclassified.

Why should they need to reveal it

The only thing they revealed about  Trump was that they asked him to look for missing documents and return them

They never asked Biden for docs and didn't know any were missing

Neither the National Archives or the DOJ "revealed" that Trump had been subpoenaed for missing docs
