the first few defeats were probably a humiliation of Mr McCarthy
but subsequent defeats are a major humiliation for the Republican Party and Mr Trump

No, I don't think he was humiliated by it.  He is too desperate for humility to register at this point.   I think he probably feels desperate enough that it can go 200 to votes, 30 party members pass away or retire, the branches of Congress are dissolved and replaced by SkyNet and he will still be squatting in the Speaker's office just waiting for the vote to affirm his deepest desires.

He's like a Jehovah Witness at this point.  He just won't go away.

Has anyone ever lost this many votes in a row for Speaker?

I don't know
He did make significant progress on the first ballot this morning but still not enough
14 Never Kever's fiipped to McCarthy

If he does eventually win he's going to be so damaged and weak (I heard someone refer to him as "self gelded") that he's going to preside over a circus for the next two years

When he gets it, will he cry?
I mean, more than he is probably doing now.

Good point
It's probably impossible for someone who has no shame to be humiliated

Poor Kevin.....  the only thing worse than not getting it, is getting it simply because everyone is tired of your ass and wants to go home.

It's kind of ironic and maybe even synchronistic in some way but the two craziest people in the Republican Party are holding hostage the other 216 in their own party

Happy January 6th

McCarthy loses again and now they are fighting over adjournment
There are people on both sides calling for another vote tonight
they had a voice vote and now they are doing a count

Technically there are  6 against 216

all the same "party"

Another way to consider it is that two Democrats could have given the House the inevitable.  Jeffries will NOT become the Speaker this session.

Finally, the House can get down to business...or can they? I can't imagine much congressional work getting anywhere with a speaker almost nobody respects and as few as one unhappy camper has the ability oust him for whatever.

Tonight, was a lose - lose for the House, specially the  Republican Representatives, that is with the exception of  the three or four crazies in their ranks.

The last few days have bought into focus the sorry state of U.S. politics and politicians and it is probably going to get even sorrier over the next couple of years.

Hopefully they start the investigations now, and strip this guy of his committees:

Why would Dems need to help Republicans pick a leader among themselves?

To your point, Jeffries got more votes on the first 12 ballots so why didn't a few Republicans negotiate with Jeffries to support him and save their party from being controlled by extremist nutbags for the next two years.  That would have made more sense and have been a true coalition.

BTW - this isn't over.

One of the things McCarthy gave up (along with his testicles) is the power for any one person to call a "motion to vacate" to remove McCarthy as Speaker

How soon before Gaetz or Bobert or some other nutbag gets pissed off and pulls that lever?

Quote
McCarthy’s concessions include changes to how the House is run, placing members of the House Freedom Caucus on key committees, and the creation of a committee to conduct a major investigation into the FBI.

Quote
These included getting a vote on a border security plan, a budget that doesn’t allow the debt ceiling to increase, an end to all COVID mandates and funding, a term limit vote, single subject bills, and allowing at least 72 hours given for members to read bills.

A lot of these are good things and worth the process.

I noticed that she was flirting with him big time. He didn't look like he minded it. He might want to be careful; she is as crazy as a loon.

He didn't win the vote, he surrendered into the position.  Big difference.

Repost.

This is a real topic and problem, but better to ignore and just picture of McCarthy looking at MTG.

It is blatantly apparent across the country that DJT broke so many minds that they are willing, in plain sight, to abandon any morality as long as the actions taken were anti-trump.

Schiff has lied, manipulated, and wasted millions of dollars. I'm not naive to think the so many politicians do, but when they're caught, like he has been, there needs to be accountability.

The fact that his office got a  real journalist suspended for just proving facts should concern anyone, regardless of party.
