I give you the free healthcare, even though it is subpar at best.
Most businesses dont give military discounts anymore.
Consumer goods arent discounted at BX/PX's, tax free yes, but marked up to make up for difference.
Food is not any cheaper.
Gas is the same price as off base.
GI Bill is a good plus.
Not all jobs in the military cross over easily to civilian side.
Sorry i have to disagree. I was a military brat, and live right outside an AFB. Plus my father who is retired military still works on a Base as a civil servant.
My experience with health care was great. (of cousre i never had to stay at Walter Reed
so you may be right)
The business outside this base do give discounts......last i remember the movie theater asked me if i was in the military
I was in the BX in July and compared prices of the Sopranos CD's becuase i needed to get season 6. It was 5 dolars cheaper then best buy and there was no sales tax.
Food is cheaper, my mother still shops there becuase she's frugal penny pincher.
Gas might be the same....you may be right there, i'll check.
we are on the GI bill
But of course not all jobs transfer, however many do and many use it to get better jobs when they leave service.
Not to mention, the life experience of being in the military at a young age is definatly a benefit.
