The Devil Rays are the real deal this year. I'm sure the Boston faithful feels like the Sox will kick in into gear when they have to, but I'm not so sure. The Devil Rays have played well against good teams all season.

On another note...

My Orioles are above .500 this year and playing solid ball. It's pretty shitty to be happy about your team being a few games north of .500 but the Orioles don't exactly have a winning tradition as of late.

Oh well....the city will take what they can get...

Yankees are seven games back, they wont make the playoffs, redsox will. Why no yankees threads from you? ;)

Tampa looks great, but they will go into a skid  (like the sox are in now). I want to see what they do down the stretch. The sox are fine, they are still missing some guys, some guys are slumping, ortiz is out - etc....

They will heat up during the playoffs, just like they did last year.

New York has baseball teams? This is news to me!!! The Yanks are rebuilding.

And let's be honest, Boston looks like shit. The only thing they'll be doing this year is losing in the divisional series. That is if they even make it there.

No bullpen, no one to protect Manny, Beckett with a 4.00+ ERA at home. Looking DYNAMITE!

The redsox are going through some tough times, but are still only 2.5 games out of the best record in baseball. The Redsox murdered the Yankees tonight in the bronx, what was it 7 - 0? How much do you want to bet the Sox play there best ball down the stretch? The sox have a bunch of guys from the farm starting ( and doing well), why can't the yankees do the same?

You had some similar comments about the Sox's starting pitching last year - when I predicted it to carry them to a title....We all know how that turned out my friend. Sox will be in first place come september, imo.

Btw, I know you g - men won it all, and they deserved it.

I agree with this. :'(

Why, all teams go through periods when they are struggling.... It's good when it happens early in the year, and the sox have proven they play there best when it matters.

They do, but that can be said for pretty much every team in baseball. The pen is going through a rough stretch, but they will bounce back. We have the starting pitching and offense to win another title. We have a great closer, it's the middle relief guys that are struggling right now.

This is the time you want your team to go through tough times.

We have options, Masterson can move to the pen, and we can bring Clay back up. Thats the plus of having so much pitching..... A stud blue chipper - ( who already threw a no hitter), is down in the minors waiting, because we have no room.

Hahaha, the Yanks with no pitching and slumping bats manages to take 2 of 4 from the Sox. Will Boston even make the wild card at this rate? Doubt it!

Baseball Prospectus had them projected for 89 wins at the start of the season, so not everyone was surprised.  They have had top picks in the draft for the last 10 years, and absolutely stole Kazmir from the Mets, so they SHOULD be good.

What they will need to do is shore up their bullpen and possibly sign Bonds or someone at the trade deadline to keep the momentum going.  August can be a tough month for young pitchers.

Exactly.  That would give the Yanks four straight wins, all coming at the sox and Rays' expense.  Would have been five had Damon held onto the ball and for a lucky bloop hit for Varitek on a looping, weak swing on a 0-2 count.

Wang's injury is still going to be tough to overcome, but if Jeter/Cano/Abreu start gravitating toward their means, they could get by.

Birthday was almost a month ago, slick. You can send me some of your HGH and test so I can sell it to high school kids instead, old man.

Those Sox are barely hanging on to 2nd place right now!

About to sweep the twins, it's 13 - 5 sox. Wait till Papi comes back. I think the Yankees problems come from, overestimating their prospects, and having a really shitty owner  ;)

?  How has the owner affected anything adversely?  The Yankees have the one of the best owner in baseball - one willing to put profits back onto the field instead of their own pockets.  Also, they have been focusing on the draft and building the farm instead of spending recklessly.

I'm not sure what you mean about overestimating their own prospects, either.   Hughes and Kennedy had poor starts but have also been hurt.  Hughes' minor league numbers easily project him as a #1 and Kennedy was MiLB pitcher of the year.

That said, I still wanted to trade Hughes for Santana.  Since it hasn't been done, hopefully the Yankees will use their financial leverage to grab Sabathia this offseason.

I was kidding about Hank, that's why I put the  ;)

Hughes and Kennedy have yet to live up to their hype, injuries are a part of a players make up, and tons of players with great potential have the injury bug. Not saying that will be the fate of Kennedy and Hughes ( they are both great prospects) but it's a valid point. Does Hughes still have an era over nine? Projections are great, but show me substance at the pro level. I would take Lester and Clay over Kennedy and Hughes any day of the week , and twice on Sundays. I remember you telling me a website you where getting information from didn't have Pedrioa or Ellsbury as blue chip prospects. Dustin is going to his first all star game this year, Ellsbury played key roles in the sox world series win, and both are the future of the franchise. I want to see it on the field, you know what I mean?

I think the trade for Santana would have been a great move for the Yankees.....and they will def go after Sabathia. The Yankees are far from out of it, but I don't think they are going to contend for a title this year.

Finally - baseball discussion.  ;D

Lester and Buccholz over Hughes and Kennedy RIGHT NOW, yes, I would agree.  Actually, maybe even going forward since Kennedy isn't supposed to be as good as either Lester or Buchholz, but I'm still going to stick to Hughes for the long haul.  At the ML level, Hughes had a no hitter into the 7th vs. Texas until he pulled a hamstring, and pitched very well that September he came back, including a playoff game.  This year, he sucked, but it was discovered he had cracked ribs and was trying to pitch through it.  Hopefully he'll come back now with lowered expectations from everyone and be able to be a #4-5 to begin and work his way.  People forget he's only 21 years old, much younger than any of the other three pitchers mentioned.  I'll also say that I am surprised that Lester's been able to keep the walks down recently, a problem that's plagued him throughout his MLB and MiLB career.

Ellsbury #'s don't put him anywhere near the hype RSN had over him.  He did contribute in the playoffs very well last year, and will be a decent player for the sox, but not a superstar like he was hyped to be.  Right now he's slightly below a league average hitter.  People didn't want to part with him for Santana, which is ludicrous.

Pedroia has played very well, so I won't argue too much there, but I'll say it took an incredible, unsustainable hot streak to get his numbers up, and he should be the alternate 2b All Star starter to Ian Kinsler this year.  He's really good at hitting fastballs, though.  I'm surprised how he's able to get ahead of them with such a gigantic swing.

But Boston is a far better team than the Yankees, so who cares?

Far better? That's a good one. I didn't know it was April 1st!
