Gary's a cool dude. Met him personally and still keep in touch. Never a snob that's for sure. Having said that, he may not have the best back out there but heck, he's still one of the all time greats that has numerous titles under his belt. Besides how many can look as good as him at his age now(52?)

Gary doesnt need to come here. He couldnt care less coz he has nothing more to prove. A bodybuilder with great achievement (9 pro titles), took 15 years off from competition and came back looking maybe even better than before at the age of 46. How many of us can do that?!

WBF titles don't count, just like your title doesn't count.
Furthermore, many people have more titles than Shawn Ray, would rank Strydom above Shawn Ray?
Or how about Aaron Baker, who was far more complete than Gary, but got shafted due to his affiliation with WBF? Or how about Paul Dillett? Or even Victor Richards who never competed, but every year there is about 5 threads started about Victor. And Mike Francois beat Nasser and Sherman at the 94 NOC, and he beat Flex at the 95 Arnold, one thing that Gary could never do.
I could go on, but Gary is nothing more than a footnote in bbing history, not great, not legendary, just a footnote...

Ill give him jay, but Phil has a better structure and shape, and when he was 215-220, back in 2006, he really impressed me.

What truly is disappointing about Gary is his total lack of completeness from the rear. Especially in the time of Lee Haney, Mike Christian, Lee Labrada, Gaspari, etc...those dudes were always on point.

Bertil Fox and Gary were only good from the front, from the back they showed what they really were...
And of course Fox, was more "legendary" that Gary in terms of physique but at least Gary didn't commit murder and wasn't a asshole woman beater. Advantage, Gary Strydom.

Phils lines just seem odd to me nearly aesthetic but really bad balance, jay is an abomination. Gary's back was terrible, just one of those things i guess.

I spoke to Gary back stage at the 2007 NPC Nationals, looked very healthy and was huge, a super nice guy...don't think his back was weak, just did not know how to "pull" his lats out...posing...
