CALIFORNIA PROF ASSIGNS STUDENTS HYPOTHETICAL SCENARIO WITH ‘DONALD RUMP,’ WORTH 30 PERCENT OF FINAL GRADE
11/28/2018 | EDUCATION
Neetu Chandak | Contributor

A California professor assigned an essay prompt worth 30 percent of students’ grades that featured a hypothetical scenario with “Donald Rump” and “Students for Offensive Speech.”

“Students for Offensive Speech” invites reality TV star “Donald Rump” to the University of California, Santa Cruz (UCSC) in the assignment, Campus Reform reported Wednesday. Students have to pretend to be USCS’s general counsel and advise the chancellor on how to handle the situation as some people want to block entry to “Rump’s” event. (RELATED: Class Is Evacuated Because Of A Trump Hat?)

Former Democratic Santa Cruz, California, Mayor Ryan Coonerty assigned the prompt for his class, “Problems in Constitutional Law: Free Expression,” according to Campus Reform.

“Rump’s show undoubtedly include [sic] offensive material and has been known to target women, minorities, and the disabled,” the prompt said, Campus Reform reported. “It is rumored that he will be handing out the names, photos, and addresses of student leaders and faculty who are outspoken in their support for transgender, Muslim, and undocumented communities.”

Coonerty said the assignment was supposed to be a “fun fact pattern” for students to apply their knowledge surrounding “campus speech codes, incitement, hate speech, and obscenity,” according to Campus Reform.

The professor added he encourages all views and has students read “The Coddling of the American Mind: How Good Intentions and Bad Ideas Are Setting Up a Generation for Failure” by Greg Lukianoff and Jonathan Haidt.

“My teacher has stayed pretty neutral despite his political background, and I showed my friends, who also thought it was a joke of an assignment, but it’s understandable since he was once mayor of Santa Cruz, and UCSC was just named #1 liberal school in the U.S., I think,” a UCSC student told Campus Reform.

The college student wanted to remain anonymous due to fear of repercussions on her grade, according to Campus Reform.

Coonerty supported resisting deportation of illegal immigrants, providing health care to everybody regardless of immigration status and increasing funding for organizations that support women’s reproductive healthcare, according to a Huffington Post article he wrote in November 2016.

“There is no doubt that the Congress and President-elect [Donald Trump] will make decisions that will harm people, especially the most vulnerable,” Coonerty wrote.

Coonerty and UCSC did not immediately respond to The Daily Caller News Foundation’s request for comment.

NBC News backtracks on report that said Trump did not visit troops over Christmas
Fox News

Tomi Lahren on media's criticism of Trump's Iraq visit.

NBC News attempted to backtrack on an article published Wednesday which claimed President Donald Trump did not visit the troops over Christmastime when in fact, he did.

The liberal news outlet admitted in an extended editor's note that "the thrust of this article is no longer correct." NBC also adjusted the headline to: "Trump becomes first president since 2002 not to visit troops on or before Christmas." The president and first lady left Wednesday night to visit the troops on Thursday.

The note which was published at the top of the original article read: "On Wednesday, NBC News compiled a list of every Christmastime visit to active troops by a president since 2001. That list, as detailed in the article below, showed that former Presidents George W. Bush and Barack Obama visited troops on or before Christmas every year since 2003, and President Donald Trump did so in 2017.

"As of the end of Christmas Day 2018, Trump had not visited troops during the holiday season, and had announced no plans to do so. The article was correct, but on Dec. 26, the situation changed. Trump and the first lady, Melania Trump, made an unannounced visit to troops in Iraq. As a result, the thrust of this article is no longer correct, even if it was at the time."

The note continued: "In the interest of transparency, we are keeping the article on NBCNews.com so that the record will reflect the situation on the day the article was published, and are directing readers to the article about Trump’s Iraq visit here. We are also altering one line in the article, as well as the headline, to be more specific and to note that Trump was the first president since 2002 who didn’t visit military personnel on or before Christmas, rather than at Christmastime."

NBC News' mistake comes after Trump's visit to Iraq was heavily criticized by the media. CNN's overwhelmingly negative reporting drew attention to some troops bringing MAGA hats for the president to sign and how this may be against the guidelines, which forbids active members of the military from participating in “political activities.”

CNN SLAMMED FOR TRASHING TRUMP'S VISIT TO TROOPS, CRITICIZING SOLDIERS FOR BRINGING MAGA HATS

The story by CNN politics reporter Eli Watkins, headlined “Troops bringing Trump hats to sign may violate military rule,” was criticized by press secretary Sanders, among others, who fired back at CNN on Thursday, tweeting that the network “will attack anyone who supports President Trump, including the brave men and women of our military who fight everyday to protect our freedom.”

CNN anchor Don Lemon also took shots at Trump for visiting the troops while the U.S. Coast Guard continues to work without pay during the partial government shutdown and later referred to Trump as “The Grinch” for making Christmas about him as well as his visit with the troops. Former NSA adviser Samantha Vinograd agreed, saying the president “should’ve stayed home.”

Later on, CNN’s April Ryan said Trump’s visit with the troops “should have happened a long time ago” and questioned whether everyone “should be commending him” for something presidents have done in the past.

Bozell & Graham Column: These Boots Are Made for Double Standards
By Brent Bozell and Tim Graham | December 28, 2018

Is there anything, anything at all, for which President Trump won’t be faulted by a press corps that despises him so much they are making a mockery of themselves in front of the world?

They slammed the president for failing to visit troops in a war zone. Then on Christmas night, he snuck out of town with Melania to bring Christmas cheer to troops in Iraq. So they slammed him for signing Make America Great Hats that soldiers brought him, turning the trip into a "campaign stop."

It gets even more ridiculous. The scribes at Yahoo News discovered something far more pressing and their scoop showed up on cellphones from coast to coast on December 26. A fashion writer named Kerry Justich uncovered a national outrage, apparently. Her headline: “Melania Trump gets mocked for wearing Timberland boots while visiting the troops.”

Yes, dear friends, it is national news that someone, somewhere – actually it as at least two or three people – found Melania’s boots unacceptable.

The First Lady wore sturdy all-American boots to meet the troops, and it was somehow mockable. “The Timberland boots are being called an ‘out of touch’ style selection by some on Twitter.” Whenever a liberal writer uses “some” people, or “many” people,  they mean “we.”

It makes you wish Twitter had never been born.

A person with the Twitter handle “Posh Spice” tweeted “Melania wearing timbs...how much more out of touch could she possibly be”? Another person (“Wintrynight Jordan”) tweeted “I have never in my life seen anything stupider than Melania Trump in a pair of Timberland boots.” One could quickly discover this wasn’t exactly a fashion tweet, since the hashtag on the Twitter bio was “#VoteThemOut”. Miss Spice’s account had the hashtag “#BlackLivesMatter”.

In the new piece Yahoo also made sure to link back to another Yahoo piece pulling the same thread, mocking Mrs. Trump for wearing Timberland boots on a visit to hurricane victims in October of 2017.

So what about Michelle Obama’s boots?

Just six days earlier on December 20, the very same Kerry Justich at Yahoo News posted the very opposite article: “People are freaking out about Michelle Obama's $3,900 boots.” Freaking out...in delight, that is.

Mrs. Obama wore thigh-high designer glitter boots priced at four grand to one of her book-tour stops, but she was not “out of touch.” This time, “people” (again read: “we”) were “inspired” by her “impeccable” style.

“But despite sharing numerous moving anecdotes about growing up in Chicago and eventually landing in the role of first lady, people seem to be most inspired by the impeccable sense of style she displayed on her last stop in Brooklyn on Wednesday,” Yahoo oozed.

Yahoo also promoted a slew of other “You Go Girl” articles, with gushy headlines, including:

    – “Michelle Obama 'breaks the Internet' with her £3000 thigh-high Balenciaga boots” – Yahoo Style UK.

    – “Michelle Obama’s Post-White House Fashion Is Proof Of How Liberated She Feels” – Refinery 29.

    – “Michelle Obama rocks thigh-high Balenciaga boots and Twitter approves” – The Independent.

-- “Michelle Obama Wore The Glittery, Thigh-High Balenciaga Boots Of Your Dreams” – Huffington Post.

-- “Michelle Obama's Balenciaga Tour Boots Are $4,000 of Glitter Goodness" – Glamour magazine.

That’s only a fraction of the love the liberals always have for Mrs. Obama. She can do no wrong. Everything she does is the Most Precious Thing Ever.

It’s tawdry – and so damn boorish – to suggest that being “out of touch” with median-income folks is only reserved for Republican First Ladies. Liberals would argue Michelle Obama came from humble beginnings. Want humble beginnings? Try being born in communist Yugoslavia, like Melania.

One would think feminist women in the media could think of better articles to write than catty Twitter roundups of liberal tweeters sneering about Mrs. Trump’s boots, especially when it has nothing to do with boots.

By God, do they hate this man, and because she married him, now also his wife.

Fact check: Trump brags to troops about 10 percent pay raise he didn't actually give them
The president also got it very wrong when he claimed during his trip to Iraq that service members haven't had a wage hike in 10 years. MSNBC

Speaking to troops at Al Asad Air Base during his surprise visit to Iraq, Trump told troops: “You protect us. We are always going to protect you. And you just saw that, ’cause you just got one of the biggest pay raises you’ve ever received. … You haven’t gotten one in more than 10 years. More than 10 years. And we got you a big one. I got you a big one. I got you a big one.” FOX2News

Vape Store Clerk Has Meltdown over Customer Wearing Trump Shirt
28 Dec 2018

A store clerk at a vape store was fired Friday evening after he was caught on video screaming at a customer wearing a shirt that said “Trump” and a MAGA hat, demanding for him to leave and refusing to sell him anything.

“LEAVE THE STORE! LEAVE THE STORE! LEAVE THE STORE! F-CK OFF! I DON’T GIVE A F-CK, GET OUT!” the employee screamed at the customer, Ian Furgeson, who posted the video on his Facebook page on Friday afternoon.

The clerk can be seen taking a swing at Furgeson in the video and accusing Furgeson of being racist. The clerk makes a phone call, telling someone that Furgeson was wearing “some Trump bullsh-t.”

“I’m not serving anyone that has to do with that f-cker,” he said, referring to President Donald Trump. “He’s a treasonous a–hole.”

Furgeson proposed that the clerk sell him the vape juice he came to buy for his wife, and he would not call the police or call the store’s headquarters and get him fired. “What you did was assaulted me,” he told the clerk.

The clerk reluctantly began ringing Furgeson up. After Furgeson said, “God bless America, capitalism wins again,” the clerk launched into another profanity-laced tirade: “F-ck your capitalism, f-ck your f-cking president, he’s a racist stupid piece of sh-t.”

The store, XHale City in Tucker, Georgia, posted on Facebook late Friday an announcement of the clerk’s firing:

“To our friends and customers,” it read. “Tonight, we had an employee act improperly toward a customer. Xhale City does not tolerate this kind of behavior from its employees. When we identified the employee at fault, we fired him immediately. We’ve also spoken to the customer and apologized. We value our clients and treat them with respect and dignity, regardless of their political views.”

No one is forcing Trump to make off-the-cuff and sometimes outrageous or untrue comments on his Twitter account. Typo's aside, he earns all the negative heat he gets.

Trump marks MLK day with 2-minute memorial visit

President Donald Trump made a brief appearance Monday at Washington’s Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial, honoring the civil rights icon with a wreath on the federal holiday bearing his name.

The president, accompanied by Vice President Mike Pence and acting Interior Secretary David Bernhardt, spent roughly two minutes at the memorial.

Trump left the White House late Monday morning for an unannounced trip to the King memorial, traveling there via motorcade, according to the White House press pool. The president had faced some criticism for his previously released schedule, which did not include any public events marking Martin Luther King Jr. day.

At the memorial, Trump and Pence laid a wreath at the base of a sculpture of King. The president made only brief remarks to reporters, thanking them for being there. The temperature Monday was 19 degrees with a wind chill of two degrees.

He did not respond to shouted questions on the ongoing government shutdown, now in its 31st day, which has shuttered the non-open-air portions of Washington’s monuments and memorials on and around the National Mall, including the King memorial.

The White House issued a lid — a signal that the day’s public events had concluded — shortly after the president’s arrival back at the White House.

Trump is looking leaner, he appears to have had his hair trimmed and his fingers seem to have grown longer. Good job Donald!

A Colorado middle school teacher was placed on paid leave and resigned from her leadership position with a local teachers’ union after she incorrectly identified one of the Covington Catholic students and labeled him “Hitler Youth.”

Michelle Grissom, a seventh-grade social studies teacher at Mountain Ridge Middle School in Highlands Ranch, tweeted Sunday: “His name is [redacted]. His Twitter account is closed to nonfollowers so we won’t interfere with his training in the #HitlerYouth,” according to screenshots obtained by a local NBC affiliate.
