Many loyal bodybuilding fans had their eyes glued on the television set today on NBC for the Mr Olympia. However, they were instead greeted by some sports recaps and commercials for Hanes Underwear. So now people are wondering as to what the hell happened and unfortunately I have the answer to that calamity. Despite what’s been said on the internet forums and Facebook, NBC did indeed film the event with unheeded access and Triple H commentating the entire event. However, the finished product ended up being mostly the competition and the behind the scenes access as well as Triple H’s commentary was completely cut out. In addition, the quality of the filming was very poor so AMI who had the rights to event decided not to release it as it was to NBC.
In my opinion, I don’t think it would have made much of a difference. The core audience has already seen the event and I truly doubt that the sight of the physiques would have attracted any new fans…in fact it would have likely opened up a can of worms in the overall discussion of anabolic steroids in sports. Hopefully AMI will put up the behind the scenes action in the near future.
