Title: Does "fear of losing" motivate you?
Post by: gatomjp on December 20, 2008, 01:55:21 PM
In my bodybuilding documentary Raising the Bar, Dave Pulcinella, a few weeks before the big contest, answers the question “What motivates you?” this way...

”What motivates me?? Fear of losing. It CAN NOT happen!”

Many other BB competitors have told me that they identify with that statement. What strikes me as strange is that it mentions “losing”, a negative concept that I didn’t think competitors would embrace.

And then I read in Time magazine that Rachel Maddow, the tough, controversial and very successful MSNBC talk show host admits that, “...her driving force is a fear of failure”!

I began to wonder if that was a motivating force for many successful people. Is that true for you or do you find motivation other ways?

All the fucking time. I got to the gym to go to war with the iron. If I am not in pain or screaming then I am not training hard enough.

Title: The "Will to Win" is a key success trait in life.
Post by: Soundness on December 20, 2008, 03:21:16 PM
The "will to win" is a key success trait in life. It may sound conceded, but you must WANT to be the BEST. I haven't even heard of a successful person without a big ego, you become what you believe. In fact, the first thing I know about a successful person when I meet them is that they have a big ego.

This doesn't mean being arrogant, either, it just means the desire to be better than you are now. The desire to improve, to NOT accept the status quo. People need to avoid complaining in life, people need to quit thinking about what they don't want and start thinking about what they do want. MAKE IT A HABIT AND THAT'S WHAT YOU'LL ALWAYS TEND TO DO.  ;)

rachel maddow is the unfunny lesbian who cant yet read the teleprompter correctly which follows the keith olbermann show on MSNBC.  she needs to cut the schtick and stick with the facts.

I've had to cut workouts short to go home to take a shit cuz I didn't feel like using the nasty toilets in the locker room.

Nope.  Fear should never be a motivator.

Nope.  Fear should never be a motivator.

Tell that to Bill Gates!

"Fear should guide you but it should be latent. I consider failure on a regular basis." - Bill Gates, July 1994

Pathetic.

Forget about win or lose.

Just grow as much as possible and dry as much as possible before the show.

No more complication. BBing is not Boxing.

Its all about hard cut big muscle. Nothing more nothing less.
