Title: Ranking the Mr O's.......
Post by: Dr Dutch on September 09, 2015, 12:37:31 PM
Dexter is boring....I always felt a mr O should not be boring, beside his physique...(and should not be short too)

Scott, Oliva, Arnold, Zane, Bannout, Haney, Coleman were not boring....only Arnold, Haney and Coleman were not short. Oliva maybe beyond this....

Columbu, Dickerson, Yates, Cutler are questionable....Yates and Cutler were on the short side, the others were short. Yates a boring person.
Dexter, Heath were/are boring....and short

In the end,

Not boring and not too short: Arnold, Oliva, Haney, Coleman.

So the only REAL MR O's are:

Arnold
Sergio
Haney
Coleman

says Dr Dutch

Who of them is the real "50 yrs of mr O" ??

The majority of BBers would have to have OCD. If you are going to go to the gym at least every day, eat the same foods, have a shitty existence because you are bound by these requirements, yes, you are going to be boring.

Coleman is a satchel full of pierced anuses.  An 8 time repeat offender of the Mr. SchmOelympia.  He is crap.

Yates is only slighty better.

Haney is okay but certainly not the Oak.  A veneer, if you will.

Zane is great.

Sergio was too.

Scott was okay, but not up to the caliber of the Myth nor the Oak.

Arnold is the best that's ever been and likely will be.

Are you sure you have the right year? Relatively speaking, he looked average at best in 1971; that might explain why Weider didn't let him compete in the 1971 NABBA Mr Universe, where Bill Pearl beat Sergio, Reg Park, Frank Zane, Dave Draper, and others.

Had Schwarzenegger competed (and lost) to a retiring Pearl, there goes Weider's marketing him as the greatest ever.

My guess is that Yates' goal was to be a bodybuilder, not a movie star or anything else.

Why does he need "charisma"?
With that said, my bottom 8 are:

13. Dickerson
12. Zane
11. Scott
10. Columbu

Weider didn't let all IFBB athletes(not only Arnold)to compete in a non IFBB sanctioning events in an effort to strengthen the federation and make it dominant(just as it's nowadays). Arnold looked great in 71 much improved than the year before and would have beaten Pearl just as he beat Park the previous year.

So how did Draper, Columbu, Zane, and Oliva end up competing at the Universe?

Weider let all his major stars go, except Arnold. Plus, at that time, the NABBA Universe was the top show.

Zane switched to NABBA in 1970.His last contest with IFBB was in 1969.At the time he was more of a NABBA competitor.Draper and Columpu competed in NABBA in 1970,not 71.Sergio didn't listen, competed anyway and was barred from entering the Olympia that year.Franko was banned as well but for another reason(entering an amateur show).
Arnold was the defending NABBA Champion and he looked better than the previous year.He would have won it again if he was allowed to do it.

That's why Weiders didn't want Arnold and Sergio to face Bill and Reg in NABBA.That would've solidified NABBA Universe's dominance as the prime contest.Pearl and Park were loyal to NABBA and didn't want to compete in IFBB so the only option for all these legends to face each other was at the Universe.Arnold and Sergio were inclined to do it,but then Weider intervened with the rule and banned them from entering.

If you "need" that much dope, what then does this tell you?  I just happen to think Coleman is crap.  Pumped up crap, but all the same, crap.  He now is paying dearly for his indiscretion with regard to the cornucopia of crap he flooded his body with.

It is just  an opinion and one that is obviously in the minority.  Hmmm..."Minority"?  Does this mean only my opinion counts?   ;D

Coleman is one stupid man.  Really stupid.  And it shows now more than ever.  Sad? Yup. But stupid is as stupid does.  Regardless, this doesn't mean you cannot nor should not think otherwise.  Except for the part about him being a functional idiot, that is.  ;D

Why are people including Arnold on this list?  He couldn't even win his weight class in the NPC Nationals these days.  ::)

If you mean most dominant for his era, say that.  If you mean "best chest ever", say that.  Arnold is nowhere near the best bodybuilder, in absolute terms.

what standards? bigger waist than arnold, smaller chest and arms, over inflated delts and thighs with no calves? Thats about right today. Arnold also had back detail with christmas tree rarely seen today. He might not have the shredded glutes but you can keep those. He'd lose by todays standards of awarding squatty toads with guts and zero balance or proportion but if awarding a perfectly sculpted built body with great lines, flow and proportion Arnold would still win. The judges lowered standards over time, simple as that

What the educated might call "massthetics" destroys the ridiculously hideous "assthethics" of the slobs of today.  The Oak would win with size, definition, proportion and the ability to display all of them with class.

No one but a schmoe thinks "shredded glutes" is worth anything.  No one but a schmoe thinks huge, disproportionally, oversized, ridiculous looking legs and fat asses is worth anything.   No one but a schmoe thinks a carapace like gut is worth anything.

The judges have been playing a game of moral limbo with their scorecards.  The have reached rock bottom and are showing signs of digging.  It goes as low as they do when they drop to their knees to blow Kai.   What a turd that one is.   Worthless little manlets, unable to put forth the effort required to master their own bodies so they  play anabolic roulette in a vainglorious "effort" (as if take drugs required effort) to win at cheating.

The only thing dinkier than their pea sized testicles are their mustard seed sized brains.

Steve Reeves was right.  They should just stick to tiddlywinks.

well said, bodybuilding and aspiring to create a prefect muscular physique is pretty much dead today. I really wonder how little training the likes of phil can actually get away with today with all the cocktails of drugs available

Why are people including Arnold on this list?  He couldn't even win his weight class in the NPC Nationals these days.  ::)

If you mean most dominant for his era, say that.  If you mean "best chest ever", say that.  Arnold is nowhere near the best bodybuilder, in absolute terms.
Are you ok man? The title of the threat is "Ranking the Mr.O's" and he is 7xMr.Olympia.

2. Ronnie
1. Arnold
3. Haney
4. Zane
5. Sergio
6. Dorian
12. Dexter
7. Heath
8. Scott
9. Jay
10. Samir
11. Dickerson
Columbu
fixed.

Dexter was definitely better than samir, jay, dickerson and columbu.
front double biceps separates the greats from the massive blobs.

So we're just ranking based on wins?  That's different.

Based on the best bodybuilder by today's standards, Arnold is not even close.  He would not even turn pro with his best ever physique, on today's stage.

So we're not judging by today's judging standards then?

So are we judging by who looks the best?  I would put Frank McGrath ahead of Arnold using that standard.

A prime Ronnie Coleman had an awesome physique. Its impossible to say otherwise. Old people are stuck in the past.  ;D ;D

You have to give credit where credit is due.

Ronnie looked best in his first couple of Olympias before his gut began to get out of control.

I thought the 2001 Jay Cutler was one of the best modern physiques I've ever seen.

Really thought he should have won that year.

Using your "logic"we should exclude 8 Mr.Olympia champions from the list just because they didn't build their physiques by today's standards but rather by the standards of their respective time.As if Phil Heat is training to look good by the standards of 2065 ::) We should exclude all the champions up to Lee Haney because they didn't have shredded glutes,T-rex legs and big guts and leave on the list only the champs from Dorian onward...
You are one of those guys that rank Palumbo and Kovacs as better bodybuilders than Steve Reeves only because they fit in better in today's criteria .Hey,maybe they should change the Sandow trophy they award to the winner of Mr.O to one of Coleman? After all Sandow won't even place in a local show today.

Actually, shorten that to his first O win, and include the short period where he started winning shows right before that.

Jay did look amazing that year but even though Ronnie was holding some water that day, he still won it I think- his back /back poses was just too good that year

And Jay would beat Arnold, so why on earth his Arnold on the list?  ???
Jay is not even worthy to carry Arnolds shoes...... >:(

Arnold
Ronnie
Dorian
Jay
Heath
Haney
Dexter
Samir
Sergio
Dickerson
Zane

I'd put Haney above Heath and Jay, for aesthetics....and Sergio above Dexter for mass. Samir is underrated in his year.
Dickerson and Zane were too short.
