yup i remember being like 17 reading muscle and fitness and musclemag at my uncles cottage. at that time jim quinn, porter cotrell, mike fracois, dennis newman were all really popular. being a kid you look at that and think- fuck one day i can look like that. and you know, i think you can- or at least come close if you have half decent genetics with the right amount of time in, supps and disciplene in everything.

he has really bad hips and has had replacements recently i heard.. that being said.. hge is not training hard anymore.. focuses on cardio.. so yes he is going to be down in size.. he does not care for size anymore.. that also being said up until about 4-5 years ago he was still a big sum bitch..

I passed two drug tests planning on doing the Universe in '09. I was employed (not contractual at that point) with Twinlabs and had the utmost respect for Steve Blechman and the family/company as a whole. I could not, would not fail a drug test as the Universe, thus, the peace-of-mind tests I passed leading up to that contest. it was a better title I thought given the international field, and the drug testing which was strict. So, that was the thought process behind my comment. I later decided a bird in the hand was worth two in the bush- took the pro card! I was actually talking into doing the North American by high ranking NPC persons a week out...hand not intention until those discussions.
protein intake...clean 1.3 pounds per lean bodyweight. cycling...I would ingest at minimum 1.5, if not more daily. When you read inserts (does the crap available today come with them, we had it good in our era), it quickly becomes evident that cycling is contingent upon sufficient, if not excessive protein intake as it increases protein utilization as one aspect of these components.
I will take lie dectector on fact I never went over 600 mgs weekly of any anabolic or androgenic compound. routinely, I stayed around 4-500 mgs per week. typically that is met with "hey, right" and that "talking to a used car salesman look". Believe me...that was it. GH- routinely stayed at 3.6 IU 5X per week. like most things, there is ALWAYS AN ONUS ON BIGGER, MORE, EXCESSIVE, FREAKIER, in anything. I attained a pro card at 264 in 1990, 25 pds more than any former amateur competitor with HEAVY, VERY HEAVY lifting, shoving in food all day long, every day, minimizing any extra energy towards anything else, focused on that one thing, and it worked even for a blocky, non-aesthetically blessed Long Islander. Most bodybuilders do not train heavy enough, stay in too low RM (rep range), do not TRY to get stronger, overtrain, under intensity.
Training with THE IRON BULL that entire year leading up to North Amerian, we did NO wuss exercises, and either you survive and GROW trianing with him, or not. and simply, we had so much fun training that way.
Eggs are great protein source...IF, you are not a Blood Type O (tganci.com...Todd brilliant on precontent blood type prepping which does work bigtime by the way). If not, great amino acid composition. almost perfect with several amino acid profile ratings ( PER, BV ). and they are inexpensive. Microwave them, submerge them in water in bowl, 9-10 mins if in a rush as most of us our in this life. Boil them on stove if not.

I think people forget what a normal 50 year old man in America looks like. These are the ones who don't watch what they eat, rarely if ever exercise, and are generally unconcerned about their appearance (and even some that do). Look at your father when he was 50 years old.
There are exceptions like Stallone and bodybuilders like Tony Pearson, Robbie Robinson and that Bennafuto (sp?) guy but they are exception and spend a lot of time, effort and money on their appearence. Jim Quinn ain't that bad.

Quinn is one of my favorite bodybuilders ever. I remember back in 1987 picking up a mag that had him in the cover - I think it was Balik's old "Ironman" - and my jaw dropped when I saw his size. Quinn was probably the first bodybuilder of average stature to be ripped at 260 lbs. Remember that back in the 1980's this size had never been seen before on a bodybuilder of that height. Period. The only bodybuilder to come in at a ripped 260 lbs back then was Lou and that was because he is 6'5.

Good post. Another thing people have to realize is this goofy looking bastard wanted to reach 300 pounds badly. So badly he wouldn't to any exercise outside the gym that would mess up his goal. Guys with this kind of mentality don't stop at 600mgs. He talks about force feeding himself all day etc. He has the look of a guy who would take anything and everything.

Stay in shape throughout and see how you do once the young "invincibility" syndrome passes and the aches, pains and new perspectives on life, health and happiness set in.
You damn kids. I love ya, but I can't stand you half the time. Youre' gonna blink and not recognize yourselves.
Prepare for it so it's not such a fuckin shock to your psyche and self esteem. When your self esteem lies within your muscle tissue, and your muscle tissue begins to fade and your priorities (or limitations) change-- what are you going to do?
Start from scratch with an old-ass body that is beat to hell because of all your years of uncaring abuse?

The quote was, "you don't need drugs, the body manufactures it's own hormones". Oh yeah, all this was done doing 4-6 hours daily on the treadmill with incline holding dumbells in each hand. "Cardio increases GH".

I caught that 3.6iu GH thing and remember an MMI interview where he said he only tried a low dosage of GH once - because he couldn't take a shit as his intestines were full of fluid.
Jim Competed against Strydom in the WBF and Strydom was reportedly banging 12iu GH with a bunch of insulin. I guess Jim being the honest person he is honored his contract and abstained from all drugs. :D
Tommy mentioned Billy Smith. Remember an MD article where he said he put on 60 something pounds of pure LBM during a 12 week contest prep while slashing his BF to contest level. The quote was, "you don't need drugs, the body manufactures it's own hormones". Oh yeah, all this was done doing 4-6 hours daily on the treadmill with incline holding dumbells in each hand. "Cardio increases GH".
:D I clearly remember Billy doing hours on the threadmill in the 2nd room at Gold's Venice holding dumbells. I just thought he was trying to work a litle harder and thus held the 20 lb dumbells.
