I agree. Many areas they want defunded are where police are most needed. The current tolerance for lawlessness has already created intolerable working conditions for police as well a lot more "call in sicks" and indifference. Damned if they do uphold law, damned if they don't. This is possibly the worst time in US history to be a cop. Who would want to be a cop these days? At this rate, there may eventually be police shortages whether it's government mandated or not.
Not sure how many police we have in total in West Linn, but often when there is a traffic stop, you'll see three police cars working it. My favorite story is about the time a cop car with two policemen followed me home and pulled into my driveway right behind me. The one who stepped out of his vehicle wanted me to know that one of my rear brake lights was out....really, is that all they have to do?
I am not ashamed of where I live despite the shit I get about it on Getbig. Everything I have, I've worked for. Nothing was ever handed to me. And yes, this is about as white a community as there is in all of the U.S. I still maintain that people live where they can afford to live. There are no rules (which would be against the law) against people of color living here. Anyone who can afford the price is welcome...at least as far as I and apparently many of my neighbors with Black Lives Matter lawn signs are concerned.
With a crime rate for both violent and property crime combined of 10 per 1,000 residents, the crime rate in West Linn is one of the lowest in America among communities of all sizes (lower than 62% of America's communities). One's chance of becoming a victim of crime in West Linn is one in 103. I assume this means in the last year, since there is no date on these stats. We've had 0 murders, 4 rapes, 3 robberies and and 18 assaults (what's with this? Must be a lot of drunken parties since there are almost no bars or taverns and what there are almost always are part of a restaurant. Maybe it includes fights at the high school after football games).
The population of this little city is 27,000. 79% of the housing is owner occupied. The median home price is just under $500K. There are 2.68 people per household. 97% of the folks here over 25 have a high school or higher education, 60% have a Bachelors' degree or higher. The median household income is $104K with a per capita income of $52K (2018 figures). Around 15% of the population is over 65 years. Their are slightly more females than males. 87% of the population is white. Less than 2% of the folks are black.

All in all, this seems like it would be a pretty cushy job. Too bad I am too old for it and I hate bossing people around.
