Just hours ago, the Democratic campaign laid down arms and agreed they would halt the operations of their "War Room" almost 2 days prior to the Republicans announcing that they would announce events on a day to day basis....the GOP in the southern states continue to run a smooth operation in preperation of the hurricane.

Who's the war mongerers again?

Democrats suspend "war room" operations

ST. PAUL - Democrats in town to staff an aggressive "war room" operation during the GOP convention have instead laid down their arms as Hurricane Gustav bears down on the Gulf Coast.

Republicans announced a dramatic rewrite Sunday of their convention script, dropping political speeches from Monday's program. So, Democrats are responding in kind.

A Sunday media tour of the party's operation in St. Paul that was to have featured Minnesota Democratic Sen. Amy Klobuchar was abruptly canceled.

And with the cancellation of Monday's convention appearances by President Bush and Vice President Dick Cheney, Democrats shelved a "More of the Same" rally that was to have featured hundreds of protesters. A news event featuring Reps. Chet Edwards, D-Texas, and Hilda Solis, D-Calif., was also canceled.

A small squadron of Democratic aides had prepared for an aggressive war room operation featuring surrogates such as Klobuchar, New Mexico Gov. Bill Richardson, and Edwards to offer the Democratic counter-convention narrative.

The Democratic effort follows an aggressive week by GOP operatives in Denver. They successfully thrust themselves into the convention story line by introducing new television ads daily, circulating top GOP officeholders among cable and network news outlets and zapping reporters with quick reaction to each evening's convention program.

Rick Davis, campaign manager for John McCain, said Sunday that future decisions about the convention program would be made on a day-to-day basis. Democrats say they'll be ready to hit back when and if the convention returns to normal.

GOP announce that non-bipartisan politics need to take place - Sunday morning.

Democrats, were starting to feel the heat as they stepped off the planes, and decided on the eve of the hurricane to call a timeout as well.

Little late, little late.

Hopefully Moore can make the party.

Oh brother, so basically you're saying it was to late because even though they closed up before actually doing anything.  Even though it was still news today as to what level of what would be done?  You have a zero story here pal.

You are joking right?

Remember the last time the republican party was given bipartisan deference?   Remember 9/11/2001?

Do you also remember how the republicans started a war of aggression and painted any democratic opposition to fascist republican policy as treason?

And now you expect some solemnity afforded to the republicans...again?

How many times do you think the dems will fall for that bipartisan bullshit followed up by a swift kick to the head with an Iron boot?

The republicans have proven time and again that there is no sewer they won't plumb for advantage.  Bipartisanship in any circumstance is a dance with the devil with this crowd.

If they could fuck the democrats and american people like they did on the heels of 9/11, they are capable of anything.

Let's just hope Obama can do something to help, seeing as how the GOP has already done so much.

Jindal (R) Gov. from the state of Louisiana is really moving things along, FEMA has done a complete 180.

McCain "America First"

Democrats "We better shut down the war room, after DNC Fowlers comments, and Moore Americans are starting to see our true colors"

Democratic candidate Barack Obama took a swing at the administration during his acceptance speech in Denver Thursday evening, calling the Bush administration a government "that sits on its hands while a major American city drowns before our eyes," referring to post-Katrina New Orleans.

Tisk Tisk Obama, Tisk Tisk

Perhaps Obama can donate his $400 million + in campaign money to some of the hurricane survivors?

I think the GOP is doing enough advising and leading the citizens to safety while Obama takes notes on how its done.

"Hmm so Rev Wright can't make a makeshit Noah's ark in the form of a cadillac with 28 inch dubs?" "He's going to be upset" - Obama

Has anyone else noticed that Nagin is being very quiet, and still looks dumbfounded? Can't believe they voted this doofus back in, if Jindal was not in Louisiana it would not be good.

McCain doesn't pretend to care about people while persuing a bankrupt lib agenda. McCain doesn't pretend that the aftermath of Katerina was Bush's fault instead of a corrupt New Orleans political machine and an act of God.

CNN showed riots, bodies floating, looting and shooting.

After CNN showed it, Bush called Brownie and told him what a great job he was doing.

If that hurricane had hit TX, I betcha they would have gotten supplies there a tad faster.

U really ought to talk to people who were part of the recovery. Those levies were known to be issues, but Nagin and those who came before him ignored it for other programs. Funny I left FT. Polk 12 hours before the storm hit. My unit was restasked Tuesday to be on stand by to offer assistance. Uncle Sam was moving as quickly as they could. Besides u guys assume that a storm  and the accompaning chaos will be be as organized as ur trip to starbucks...shit like that happens on a daily basis in most of the rest of the world...shit happens. Get over it, do what u can to help and move on.

Beach Bum did you only start paying attention to politics recently?  Are you honestly coming up empty on the disgusting anti-american excesses of Bush and the Republican party?  Well, here's a refresher:
"To those who pit Americans against immigrants, citizens against non-citizens, to those who scare peace-loving people with phantoms of lost liberty, my message is this: Your tactics only aid terrorists for they erode our national unity and diminish our resolve," Ashcroft told the Senate Judiciary Committee. "They give ammunition to America's enemies and pause to America's friends. They encourage people of good will to remain silent in the face of evil.

http://archives.cnn.com/2001/US/12/06/inv.ashcroft.hearing/

Then, on October 16, House Majority Leader Dick Armey, R-Texas, suggested during a press conference that "Americans must be wondering why it is that Al Qaeda, this ragtag bunch of terrorists scattered all over the globe, can reorganize themselves ... and the United States cannot reorganize itself. Al Qaeda doesn't have a Senate. Al Qaeda doesn't have a Senator Daschle that has another focus."

Senate Minority Leader Trent Lott, R-Miss., however, fired back almost immediately by attacking Daschle's right to criticize the Bush administration's prosecution of the war. "How dare Senator Daschle criticize President Bush while we are fighting our war on terrorism, especially when we have troops in the field," Lott stated. "He should not be trying to divide our country while we are united." Sen. Bill Frist, R-Tenn., called Daschle's remarks "thoughtless and ill-timed." Meanwhile, Rep. Thomas Davis, R-Va., head of the Republican House Campaign Committee, claimed Daschle's "divisive comments have the effect of giving aid and comfort to our enemies by allowing them to exploit divisions in our country."

Appearing next on NBC's "Meet the Press," Cheney was asked again whom he was singling out for taking "political advantage by making incendiary suggestions." This time he implicitly named Gephardt and Clinton (who referenced the deceptive New York Post headline "Bush Knew" in a statement Thursday), saying he was speaking of "the rush to the floor of the House and the Senate in front of the cameras saying, 'What did he know and when did he know it?'; people waving newspapers -- the one you showed at the outset; the New York Post saying, 'Bush Knew.'" Again, Cheney provided no argument as to how these examples justify his characterization of the Democrats.

In an interview yesterday with Wolf Blitzer on CNN, conservative radio host Mike Gallagher made the inflammatory charge against liberal radio host Joe Madison. Responding to an email from a viewer named Gila suggesting that "The Bush administration is making Iraq its cause celebre and diverting attention from other issues like the economy", Gallagher claimed that "people like Joe [Madison] and Gila are rooting against the president and against this country. And listen, I say to Gila or to Joe, if you don't like what this government stands for, go over to Baghdad and be a loyal to Saddam Hussein like [Rep. Jim] McDermott is." When Madison began to respond, Gallagher claimed "You're un-American. You're un-American", "you hate America" and "You're un-American. You're either with us or with the terrorists," concluding "You're either with us or with the terrorists, Wolf. . . . Which side are you on, Joe?"

Time and time again, the Democrats want to have it both ways," he told donors here. "They talk tough on terror, but when the votes are counted, their softer side comes out."  GW BUSH

He added: "If you don't think we should be listening in on the terrorist, then you ought to vote for the Democrats. If you want your government to continue listening in when al-Qaeda planners are making phone calls into the United States, then you vote Republican."

--Bush

Since this is an election year how could we forget this gem When Bush told the country that the democrats were not "interested in the security of the country..."

Step down off your soap box Decker.   :)  I didn't understand what you meant when you said "Remember the last time the republican party was given bipartisan deference?   Remember 9/11/2001?"

What do you mean by bipartisan deference and how does that relate to 9/11?

Ok.

'Bipartisan' means representing, characterized by, or including members from two parties or factions..
http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/bipartisan

'Deference' means respectful submission or yielding to the judgment, opinion, will, etc., of another.
http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/deference

Conjoining those two concepts could yield this idea:  members from two parties yielding to the judgment of another...namely the president...a republican.

In other words, the Congress yielded to the republican president as a sign of national unity and the president and the republican portion of the congress turned around and exploited the goodwill for political gain.

By political gain, I mean removing all oversight of the executive branch in passing the patriot act, the white house issued white papers re Iraq's wmd capabilities along with sticking it to the democrats as soft on terrorism.
