Being big has no "good" effect on anything in life. From a general health perspective. I'm speaking about strongman type big.

Seriously, just mellow out.  Work out regularly, eat right, and sleep.  Quit stressing.  Compartmentalize your fitness pursuit.  Don't let it rule your life.

The best is cut and big.
Not ripped.

Big fat is very bad for health and lookin bad.

Ripped look good when you take off shirts but if you dont, you look small.Plus difficult to maintain it.

So, big and cut is the best. Not ripped or big only.

I need bigger arms and pecs, and would eventually like to keep my bodyfat in the 10-12% range.  That's lean enough for me.

Big fat is very bad for health
the process of getting fat is most usually a very unhealthy one, however being fat - not unhealthy.

Anyone else find themselves torn between being big and being ripped sometimes?

I will find myself gaining a lot of weight, and start questioning it by saying things like "man, you're getting fat."  or "why not just diet down and stay lean"

When I start to diet though, I'm like "whoa man, you are looking like a girl man, bulk back up"

It's hard to do one or the other because both require some sort of sacrifice.  If you want to achieve any amount of success though, you must go ALL the way.  Dieting half way just makes you get small with no leanness.  Only getting slightly bigger just makes you look fat.  It's gotta be all out or nothing.  Tough to choose which direction to go sometimes though.

What are the advantages of being big?  of being ripped?  How do YOU weigh the costs of both in your mind?

Yes I always had this conflict!!.. but after all these years of training I believe it’s better to keep the good shape than just being big specially if you are natural.. try to be as big as you can but without destroying your good shape..

Ripped and in running shape...The end is closing in and you will need to be able to run like a deer...You will also have to be able to fast for days if not weeks at a time with no problem...

David Goggins can do all these things...
