It's not often I run across new pictures (ones I haven't seen) of Gironda's.
According to various accounts, it was difficult to shoot there due to the poor lighting.
In fact, the pics above are probably some of the best images I've seen of the place.

And, he was a nice guy.
How many people smile while giving the "fukk-you-finger?"

All good stuff, back to the basic's of training. Most impressed with the Sig Klein gym, with that globe and shot loading equipment. Original kettle bell's and block weights included. Looks like some thick handled BB's also. Olympic bar way in the back.

In the upper left part of the picture there seems to be a pole, with stepping runs. About 3/4 of the way up that pole, there sits what looks like a BB resting on a pair of hooks(?). And than more runs above that.  Interesting, wonder what that was for.

Lot of the old time gyms had a gymnastic thick rope for climbing/training on. One of the better exercises for the lats/arms/forearms that no one seems to use in the BB'ing world anymore. There are rope climbing machines. Different versions also.

Gironda's gym had a somewhat famous skylight, where quite a few BB'ing pictures were shot. The light and shadow contrast, on the muscle development, can look very impressive under such lighting. The original Mr America contest had the men judged under direct outdoor sun light, as well as stage lighting. Wonder how that would go today, with the Pro? Seen some of these guy's away from the stage. Not a pretty sight. Good Luck.
