Things that wouldn't exist without the US:
Modern bodybuilding as an industry.
Nuclear technology.
Global pop culture (closely followed by the UK as we know it).
Multi ethnic sports, culture and leadership.
The Information Age (From IBM, MSFT, TANDEM, SUN, CISCO and now GOOGLE and beyond).
... and soon cheap renewable energy.
The list is endless...

Germany is a pretty close contender, they did invent industrial chemistry (BASF) and were pretty much the first to manufacture pharmaceutics. Unfortunately, the Hitler thingy kinda counterbalance their contribution...

Yes. A couple of us volunteer on the weekends in the Campo, Ocotillo and Calexico area. We're actually building a another race truck hmmwv for the Border Patrol as we speak...

If I loathe myself, I can assure you it has nothing to do with having been (randomly and arbitrarily) born in the USA.
People only talk about the good things as if there were no negatives; the government sucks, yet when people mention it, they simply get called names. The fact is, you are unwilling or simply cannot acknowledge that there are any problems with the US. That's pretty blind.

Back on the subject, contrary to what is being said the US is still way on top of the pecking order and will stay there for at least another couple of paradigms (global government, space commercialization, super cheap energy, immortality and climate control).
Being on top makes people jealous. Hell, look at the faceless posters constantly bashing ;D
If another country can do more and better for human condition please step up and do so.
