Wyatt Earp seemed like the more substantial film, Tombstone slightly more fluffy and watchable though maybe. I prefered Wyatt Earp.

quoted for truth. Tombstone was a little too "Hollywood" for me. A dumbed down version of the story line.. Good for sales...because everyone liked the sensationalism. Bill Paxton should go down as top 10 worst successful actors in history.

Wyatt Earp followed the actual history more closely. I think Costner plays a pretty good hard ass....because it doesnt seem to fit his character as an actor.

Open Range is sick!! Love that fuckin' movie. Every time its on I watch it much to my wifes unhappiness. I just tell her to "fix me up some vittles and be quick about it......I aint gonna say it again"

I knew I could count on you 8)...talk about an amazing cast :o

Tombstone was a better movie but Earp was better for costume,

...In Tombstone Earp,Doc and the boys never had a speck of dirt on themselves.

Like Will Penny big time. I'm not a Heston fan, but it really works. Especially the downbeat ending.

Tombstone is better.

There is a good Western that I have not seen listed in this thread yet called "The Red Headed Stranger"  Willie Nelson plays a preacher and he caught his wife getting plowed by some other dude then he kills them both and heads out on a horse to another town to get some more pussy and get drunk.

the outlaw Josey wales
pale rider

Woah there, Silverado is badass for the cast alone! Kevin Kline, Scott Glen, Kevin Costner, Danny Glover, John Cleese, Brian Denehy, Jeff Fahey, Jeff Goldblum, Linda Hunt. Immense!

Unforgiven is my favorite, especially the bar scene at the end, best scene in any Western.

Tombstone was more entertaining for sure, but they had to obviously enhance the action/drama by not accurately following the true set of events. There was never a one on one with Doc and Ringo, although Doc did kill Ringo, more accurately as portrayed in Wyatt Earp when Curley Bill, Ringo and one of the Clanton brothers (Ike) tried to ambush them.
The fight at the Ok Corral was another part that was off. In Tombstone Doc was never shot in that fight and I can't remember if he was in Wyatt Earp, but he actually was shot in the leg. Wyatt was the only one unscathed throughout the story and both movies had that right.

If anyone has seen Young Guns, another awesome western movie based on the famous Billy the Kid run to old Mexico, movies and books often aren't honest about his character. He was actually a snitch/rat.

Maybe try the original with Van Johnson and an against-type Glenn Ford. I think you'll like that one.
