Belfast is NOT in Ireland, it is in Northern Ireland. Two totally separate and very distinct countries.

It's the same with Scotland and England. Belfast is a city in NORTHERN IRELAND just like Glasgow is a city in Scotland, not England. Ireland and the word Island may sound the same but they are different things.

When I lived in England, the jokes were all about the Irish - in the same way that we, Canadians, reference the Newfs. I can remember only one. Why did the Irish team abandon their Everest quest? Answer: they ran out of scaffolding. 8)

if grandparents were born in Ulster, the province which is Northern Ireland. Although occupied by the British, the Irish constitution claims Northern Ireland to be part of the Republic of Ireland, therefore most people born in Northern Ireland prior to 1922 are Irish by birth. If this applies to your parent or grandparent, then you are also considered to be an Irish citizen.

Northern Ireland as it is known is another name for a 6 county Ulster. Ulster has 9 counties(provinces)

- Great Britain is indeed the solid mass which is comprised of England, Scotland and Wales, Ireland is part of the "British Isles" but is separate to "Great Britain"
- Northern Ireland is a constituent country within the UK (a country within a sovereign state in this case)
- Goudy, if you was born in Northern Ireland you're British, you're like a Paki otherwise... swearing alegiance to the koran and Pakistan before Britain because you believe in Satan and your parents were born in Pakistan

Anyone single boxer born in the whole island of ireland has to box for ireland in the olympics. Wayne mccullough is from a staunchly loyalist area...a few years ago he carried the olympic flag for ireland. House was then targeted etc.
