You never struck me as the kind of BB that had ever lived out of his car, but I knew you worked long and hard on going pro.
Ok, I was curious if you changed or moderated any of your views on the following in pro BB:
1. Masters getting pro cards and the NPC masters nationals ( * last time you were pretty negative on this)
2. The under 202 lb class ( I think you were undecided on this at first and now positive?)

Option D

Good question...

Dont really have any rags to riches story, and my ability to make money was never really an issue...t was more about whether or not I would ever achieve my goal of turning professional in the IFBB...my lowest point I would say, was after I blew out my back getting ready for the 98 USA, and having to undergo L-4/5 surgery and fusion...out of activity for a full 8 weeks time...then the eternity of rehab and starting back at square one in the gym was brutal mentally...

I've always seemed to do my best coming from behind...didnt make the cut at the 86 Jr. Nats/ won the overall in the 87 Jr. Nats, back surgery in 98/ 2nd at the Nationals in 99/ pro card in 2000, etc...

Never had the "lived out of my car in the gym parking lot" story...was never that stupid to have put myself in that position. I worked and owned my own gym for 9 years prior to winning the USA/ signing a contract...THEN moving out to L.A.

Do Nitric Oxide (No2) Supplements work?

The last 5 years there has been an absolute craze in the bodybuilding supplement industry over Nitric Oxide (NO2) supplements. Many bodybuilders have not looked at the research and just listened to what other bodybuilders or supplement companies have said. The supplement companies promise increased muscle growth, pumps, vascularity, and even sexual benefits. However, NO supplements may really be the biggest supplement scam to ever hit the bodybuilding industry.

What are NO (Nitric Oxide) supplements?

NO supplements contain some form of arginine, an amino acid. There are many different forms of arginine compounds in the NO supplements today, promising to be better than the other. The goal of NO supplements are to have the arginine break down into NO (Nitric Oxide) into the blood. Arginine can break down into the bloodstream by enzymatic action, into citruline and Nitric Oxide. NO is a vasodilator and is thought to play a role in muscle building. There is some research showing NO levels increase post workout, leading some bodybuilders to believe it is crucial to protein synthesis. Many have theorized that because NO supplements increase blood flow due to NO in the blood, that increased blood flow from NO leads to better muscle growth. NO in the blood is also the same mechanism by which viagra works too.

NO (Nitric Oxide) studies
There is not one single legitimate scientific study showing NO2 supplements taken orally directly increase NO levels in the blood by a significant level. Yes, that is right you have all have been duped by the supplement companies and bodybuilding “gurus” for years now!

Now I did mention earlier, arginine does convert to NO so, why doesn’t arginine supplements increase NO in the blood? Arginine indeed does increase NO levels in the blood, but only when taken intravaneously. Why? Because if you took the doses orally that required a big increase in NO, you would be a vomiting mess. Arginine causes extreme nausea at high doses, that is why all the studies at high doses were done intravaneously. Unfortunately, the upper limit for oral doses, doesn’t seem to increase NO levels much.

I remember hearing on one of the few bodybuilding radio shows that Bob made about 250 K on his contract with bodybuilding.com...Knowi ng that his standing in professional bodybuilding hasnt changed, but got more concrete, and that also he still represents bodybuilding well, im sure he wouldnt take a great pay cut to join BSN, they would have to offer more money most likely...

So based on that information, that information alone, he makes a lot of money with BSN and that is most likely not his only type of income...

Bob, i would like to say thanks for staying with Getbig all these years, its been fun reading your posts and coming back after being insulted...I hope you stay even longer....

I don't think the issue sholuld focus on the exact amount that Bob Chick makes. The fact that Bob has  the ability to make a comfortable living from being a spokesman for BB and various companies IS THE ISSUE.

I've always seemed to do my best coming from behind...

Sometimes you make this too easy...
 ;D

I don't really see why all the fuss? Bob Chic represents the "bodybuilding community" well. He's dedicated over half his life to the "sport". Who would you rather have as a male spokesman/representative for the sport...someone like Derek Anthony?

Whether he makes $25 or $250,000 is his own personal business - if he's doing what he enjoys in life and getting paid for it, why should he be criticized?

My $0.02 worth.

I was lucky enough to have Bob sit beside me during most of the prejudging during the 2004 GNC pro show.
The running commnets and insights he talked about showed a deep knowledge and passion for BB.

One thing Bob doesn;t mention is the number of hrs hs spends at expos and directly involved with BB.
I don't have the kind of staying power ( focus) when it comes to BB.
To get where Bob is ya gotta have :
1. The right kind of look
2. public speaking ability
3. some form of BB credential ( IFBB pro card)

4. passion and drive to make it

What I don't get is why people think Bob shouldn't have a contract with BSN.  He may not compete anymore but can you name many other BB's that are in front of the camera or mic as much as Bob.  As a sponsor you want exposure.  you want you name out there and you sponsor people who can do that.  My biggest sponsor was Vuarnet Sunglasses.  Armwrestling was not a major sport.  It took a little talking from me, a national title at the time and an "in" with the owner because he had married a very close childhood friend of mine.  All that got me a contract for unlimited supply of glasses which at the time were very expensive and popular and it wasd a performance contract.  I didn't make shit unless I either won (which I got $1000) and/or a photo in a publication, mention on TV or radio ($500).  That is why I tried to mention them as much as possible and get their name in print.  In fact when Time Magazine interviewed me in Ft Lauderdale I mentioned Vuarnet as my sponsor and if he could make sure they were mentioned in the article.  He said he would try but can't guarantee it cause Time is really tough on stuff like that.  Well when the article finally came out they did take out Vuarnet and put "dark sunglasses" or something like that, so I didn't get paid shit for being in one of the most respected publications in the world.  The photo below shows the Vuarnet logo barely.  It was for a newspaper article in LA.  I told the photographer to make sure to get the logo in.  he did and I collected $500.  At the time I made the second highest amount of sponsored athletes with only Martina Navratilova ahead of me.

So sponsors are important and all they want is the exposure and Bob gets as much if not more than any of them.  Of course some sponsors just want there prodcut to be associated with that person too.  Exposure is not always the primary but being able to say your product with that celebrities name in ads and promotional material is as important.

Good post..Man you guys need to stop the shit chucking at Bob , he is a good guy..He would be a hell of alot more helpful and answer your questions if the majority of you were not a bunch of wankers to him..

I dont blame him for adding a bit of sarcasm to his posts at times..

Bob would not catch shit from so many posters here if he would just man up and admit the IFBB is corrupt and fixes contests.

Very true Keith, if Bob, or anyone can land a sponsorship deal while they are inactive why wouldn't they? I don't know of anyone who would turn down a sponsorship contract if they were offered.
I'm not above giving Bob props where it is due and he must be doing somthing right to land a deal over athletes who are currently still competing, regardless of whether it is for 5k or 500k. Also Keith if you don't mind I have a few questions about pro arm wrestling., What years was it at its peak in terms of popularity? What status is it in now in term of popularity? And finally what titles did you win and what  years were you active in the arm wrestling circuit?
Thanks for your time Keith.

Muss; last time I competed was 1986.  I have no idea anything about armwrestling nowadays.  I don't watch it unless I am channel surfing and see it and even then I don't know anyone anymore. It is probably as big now as ever.  I know what we were trying to do was use the movie and Stallone's name to make it a huge sport.  i owned 1/3 of the IAC at the time.  And I went around promoting events all over.  We owned Stallone's name for about one year after the movie release.  We were able to go around and promote events using his name.  To this day I still think the prize money and prizes given away at the event in Vegas is the most ever.  The truck was worth over $100,000 at the time.  I took 4th place at that event (the one in the movie Over the Top).  I took 1st place at the Denver Over the Top event which qualified me for the Worlds in Vegas.  I won the Nationals in 83' which was the first year I competed.  My first event was the California State Championships which I took 3rd but I should have had 1st but got ripped off.  That is when I decided I didn't want to compete in that sport and Ric Zumwalt talked me into staying.  i won the Worlds in 86' in Vegas.  And I won a bunch of small events just so I could collect a check.  In most cases they weren't even sanctioned.  After that I did not compete anymore.  I spent time promoting.  I promoted a high School event that we were taking Nationally.  Weider was a major sponsor.  We were going to have sectionals and bring the winners to Disneyland for the finals where the winners would receieve a Corvette from Chevrolet.  We had it all ready to go with the So. Cal event in Redondo Beach. It was awesome.  Packed house a zillion kids and a just a whole lot of fun.

NO WAY ever.  I competed 3 years barely from 83 to 86 and not even full years.  I think if I stuck to it I could have done pretty well.  But, I highly doubt to many people remember who I am from 25 years ago except maybe a few.  I did not hang out with any of the guys and in fact I know a few who were I think a little pissed because I didn't compete regularly on the circuit.  Armwrestling is an awesome sport to watch in person.  Every person who came to an event that never had seen one before always came up to me to tell me they loved it and will watch again.  matches that last more than 2 or 3 seconds are unreal to watch.  I can't watch to many matches anymore.  I put on an event in hawaii where I reffed too and two people broke there arms.  it was loud and one of them just screamed so loud.

here is my website  www.keithdjones.com

I am sure I will get ragged by some on here for it and I don't have as good of credentials as Goodrum but I kind of like it.

Too bad Over the top was such a shitty movie.

The new Pulling John will do more for armwrestling I think. It's sort of like the Pumping Iron of armwrestling.

Muss...you are a real athlete...Bob...well, pranced around in a teeny bikini bottom all oiled up to the adoring applause of a bunch of dudes.  Now you know why he feels threatened by you and feels the need to lash out.

If there is ever an IFBB event in Toronto or a BSN event I will be there and introduce myself to Bob. Now I don't think I'm some kind of tough guy or hero, but we will see who "tucks their tail and runs". I will make sure it is filmed to.
