I will watch the NY Giants when I have time. I won’t go out of my way to watch, but I will watch here and there.

I also will watch teams like the Patriots and Cowboys when they are on TV. I’m not really a fan of those teams but they tend to have a lot of coverage from the press.. so those games tend to have higher than average entertainment value. But my team is the Giants, so I will watch when I can.

I'm in Vegas so I'll be watching a few games on a huge, wall-size, thing that is definitely not a TV but may soon be available and installed in rich peoples homes ... while having a few cold brews compliments of the house and losing each and every bet I make!

If anyone can provide a sure-thing-bet, let me know.

I think that many fans and former fans will watch a game or two just to see who stands or kneels.

I personally think that those on or off the field who refuse to stand should be escorted off the field immediately by those vets who lost a limb or two and are now confined to wheel-chairs.

If the NFL refuses to take a stand, I hope that they go bankrupt.

If they don't like the flag or anthem which the fans who put money in their pocket are crossing their hearts and standing for, why don't they go play for the CFL instead? No need to worry about criticism for kneeling in front of the Canadian anthem, since no one in Canada even knows the words or sings it.

I tapped out as a fan and owner of a media outlet that covered the NFL after Week 2 last season once the kneeling protest became the headline. Even dedicated a magazine cover to "Fuck The NFL" about our media boycott. I posted a feature article yesterday on my website basically calling the protesters and their supporters out on the reason for the protest - racial injustice at the hands of the police and criminal justice system - with objectivity and full details on a case-by-case basis using Randy Moss's HOF induction tie list of names.

I feel that I view this situation very fairly and have the background to see it from a different perspective, one that can get right to the heart of the matter:

People were already getting tired of pro football, the overly long games with the ridiculous number of penalties and play stoppages, and networks using the games simply as a platform to showcase their shitty tv shows and so-called “personalities.”

The live product is a pain in the ass too, overpriced tickets and concessions, and parking, taking forever to get in and out of the stadiums. It’s not worth it.

These idiots protesting some non-existent cause just serves to grease the skids.

Is there one specufic website that keeps statistics on NFL game attendance and other stats related to this subject?

In other words .... Is there a website that maintains accurate stats regarding  this 'problem'.

Stats showing NFL financial gains or losses.

Stats showing NFL game attendance.

Stats showing general public opinion.

Stats showing advertising sponsors increase or decrease.

Etc,. etc., etc.

All we want are the stats, man!

I don't know what that has to do with my statement at all. They are still free where they want to be employed and they choose the NFL. I never said a choice wouldnt come without consequences if they chose to kneel.

Further, even without fines, they still have a job. Its a slap on the wrist to get viewers back.

This is no way really means anything.

That's what I am saying.

Ultimately, the NFL players have 100% freedom.

They kneel, they get fined, and it means shit to them because they are beyond filthy rich.

You start firing major stars, then you also lose the viewers who still like to watch their favorite players/stars.

There is no way around it.

The players really do have all the power. The NFL is just putting this "fine" crap to appease those who stopped watching. What a joke.

Last year, at the beginning of the NBA season, the Commissioner contacted every NBA team and he told them that all the players WILL stand.

And guess what, there was no problem.

I don’t think that matters with the NFL.

They seem to be taken a lot harder stance about this.

At this point, Goodell has no power or influence over the players.

And let’s be real, even if every NBA player began to kneel, nothing would happen.  Is the commissioner going to fire every single NBA player and forfeit this season?  Of course not. If they called his bluff, he would fold just like the NFL commissioner.

Goodell really lost a lot of his grip after the Ray Rice situation. Since then, he has been trying to make the media happy... and the fans happy... while trying to make the players happy.. and trying not to offend women... and trying not to do anything that is not politically correct.

19.5 million dollar raise.

Peanuts to getbiggers.
When he asks for that kind of astronomical salary, do the people he's talking to ever stare right at him and ask him what, exactly, he does that justifies him being paid $25,000 an hour? Like, what's the deal, dude? Are you some kind of celebrity actor who sells out movie theaters or an inventor of something essential or whatever? He's a fucking administrator, for Christ's sake.

I hate that shit. I wish the league would finally grow a pair and force them to either quit doing it or let them do it. Fines are a joke to millionaires.

Goodell lost all his power and will continue to lose it.

He can’t even put a tourniquet on it. It will keep bleeding.

Eventually the NBA will catch on.

Goodell is the problem.

I just can't sit through any game.  Team sports are very boring to me.  I like fights because they are usually done inside a half hour and it's the ultimate test of man vs man.  The obsession with football has always perplexed me.  I don't even think I would go to a game if I was given tickets.  Soccer is horrible to watch.  Maybe the 1 minute highlight clip can be fun.  I think sports are great to play and being on a team yourself has great physical and social benefits, but watching a football game is beyond boring.

Be honest.

I have other things to do like: nothing.

America's obsession with pro sports in general but then again Europeans and Africans are ridiculous about soccer, which is more boring than all American sports put together, so I guess humans are just incredibly simple-minded and love to cheer for other people who don't know they exist or care. Man pick up ball. Man put down ball. Man fall down. Whistle blows. Sounds like a blast.

There are almost 1700 active players in the NFL, this is their job and while I think they should keep politics out of the NFL and sports general, and I don't agree with their political stance (because most don't research it). It's still a job and NFL creates a lot of jobs in and out of the sport itself. Yep, it's entertainment but it still doesn't take away from the fact that it's still a business.

The players I know personally are good people that give a lot to their communities and with my Samoan athletes, they give back in a huge way. Most of these players have had three options. Athletics, Prison or die. The ones that are in chose to play football.

You guys are so fucking black and white when it comes to this that you only see the surface and don't bother looking any further than that.

the fact that they view prison or death as two of their options instead of education or working a normal job should be more than enough for you to see they aren't good guys

but hey just focus on not standing for the flag, that's the only deal breaker for you ::)

People say they don't want the players to display political views.  What they mean is that they don't want them to display political views that aren't their own.  If kneeling is making a political statement then standing is as well.  Also I find it humorous that people have boycotted or say they have the NFL because a small percentage did what they didn't want them to do while the large overwhelming majority did exactly what they wanted them to do.  What kind of statement are the boycotters making to the majority of the players?

Honoring your country's flag and anthem is not a political statement. It's a ritual practiced in all 192 countries around the world, though the way they do it varies by country and the degree of populism also varies widely, with the U.S. being far more ceremonial and patriotic-minded than, say, France, where they only really celebrate it once a year rather than at every sporting event.

Breaking tradition and convention by kneeling during the anthem is very much a political statement, one limited to players of African-American descent who perceive that the country treats them unfairly without being able to explain how or to justify the overwhelming evidence to the contrary, including dodging awkward questions about the very real problem of black on black crime (as opposed to the phantasmagorical one of white on black crime).

You think following sheep is respect?  If anything it is the opposite.  If you want to help our society or military and all you've come up with is standing during the anthem then you weren't trying very hard.  You were willing to do the minimum to make it look like you cared.  I don't stand half of the time for the anthem.  It has nothing to do with social injustice.  Its stupid to ask me to stand while a song is played and cloth is waived.  I'm extremely grateful that our military exists because if those guys weren't putting themselves in harms way it would be me and I like not dodging bullets for a living.  I am also extremely fortunate to be in this great country.  I don't need to show you anything in the way you want me to.  If standing isn't a political statement then why are you so bent out of shape when someone doesn't do it?  Why is only the opposite a political statement?

Did Colin start kneeling because of social injustice?  I don't think so.  I think this half black, raised by white affluent people, player knelt because he wanted to be identified as black.  It has all snowballed and he really can't go back now.  Is it stupid to protest something with no actual plan?  Yes.  Is what the players are saying is a problem with our society really a problem?  No.  Would most of these people who have a problem with black men kneeling have this same problem if the black men were poor?  No.  It is an interesting topic because almost nothing in this is as it seems.  Everyone who is pissed off has created the reason they are pissed off.  My time and mental state are way too precious to be bothered by what some guys who play a game for a living decided to do during the playing of a song.

You think following sheep is respect?

I'd appreciate it if you didn't call everyone in my country who salutes the flag or sings the anthem a sheep. Unless you're on the left, then it makes perfect sense and welcome to our extreme right-wing board, which is nonetheless paradoxically owned by an American Jew. We'll make your stay as uncomfortable as possible while you're with us.

So what's your suggestion on how to help our society or military? Also, how to get millions of people to do it, since my actions alone are basically a drop in the bucket and have zero impact on anything.

I don't believe a word of this. You're giving the exact opposite impression with your statements, such as equating people who stand with sheep-following. FYI, a lot of military families would take a lot of offense at what you're saying and doing. It's also pretty illogical for someone who won't salute the flag to say he loves the military that fights to defend it.

And why does he feel the need to be identified as black? I thought all Americans were created equal and we were past racial pigeonholing in our society. Either way, kneeling does nothing for his cause and makes him look like a clown.

Quote

Sure it can. But as mentioned, it would cost the owners money, and the NFL is only about money, not the fans or the country. They'd move their stadiums to Iran if they got better ratings. Private enterprise doesn't give a shit about the people who buy its products or services.

Is it stupid to protest something with no actual plan?  Yes.  Is what the players are saying is a problem with our society really a problem?  No.

Great. So at least one statement in your post is quite factual and sensible.

We're not laughing at them or condemning them because they're rich. We had no problem with their wealth before they started this ridiculous bullshit 2 years ago. Quite the opposite, white men wore the jerseys and sports apparel of their favorite black players and paid money to see them play live in nosebleed seats. But we draw the line at them trashing the flag our families fought and died for. That's our right, too, because we live in a free country.

What I asked was your suggestions for helping people, for those who don't know. That's called curiosity, which you're conflating with complaining. It definitely suggests you didn't attend or finish college to mix those two up.

To address the first comment: That kind of "I'm too lazy to Google it" sounds an awful lot like Mobil being too lazy to use the search function on this site to search a couple of words a week ago. So now at least we know who your main account is, given how recently this one started posting here suddenly.

Cop out?  I was going one logical reason to stand.  One thing you've yet to do.

Yeah, it's a cop out to use that as a reason to stand. Either stand because you want to respect this country or don't. No idea what the second comment refers to, so I'm assuming your hand slipped and you forgot what your real thought was so you replaced the garbled random keystrokes from your slip with a random thought that doesn't connect to the first part of the comment.

I graduated from Texas A&M with degrees in Kinesiology and Nutrition.  I've gone to Starbucks maybe 3 times in my life.  I don't drink coffee.  I know that goes against the norm.

Yeah, I'll believe that when I see it. If so, great, you spent four years studying how to straighten tendons and overcharge people's insurance carriers for massages sans happy endings.

Well if they don't care, I'd love to see how they react when they do.

You won't see any reactions when you're a hashtag pussy social justice warrior who fights his battles on social media and legacy message boards.

It pisses you off that 100% of the NFL doesn't do exactly as you wish? What a way to live.

No, that's your weirdo half-assed reading of what I said. Which is more of a dearth vibe than a Mobil one. Or it could all be danimal77, too, since he loves to argue about semantics and pull you into that sewer drain he calls his brain.

These people who say they are boycotting the NFL are fringe fans.  They probably weren't going to watch anyway.  People don't think and they certainly don't sacrifice much for their beliefs.  Few would give up something they truly loved because of a misunderstanding about a misunderstanding about social injustice.

Yeah, I'll believe that when you post a video of you with a clipboard talking to a few hundred fans at the entrances and exits of a stadium. Until then, you're another faceless scrub hiding on a gimmick on getbig.

We're all still waiting for you to make your first point, because so far I'm getting this out-of-body experience where I'm transported back to a courtroom on a movie set in 1992 and suddenly I'm Joe Pesci at the defense table in My Cousin Vinny, elbowed into waking up after a sleepless night by my younger cousin to make a rebuttal to the prosecution and all I can say is

everything you just said is
bullshit

Can you truly not understand any point I've made or are you just pretending not to be able to?  I think we both know you standing for a song is about as close to useless as you can get.  It is a tradition you like to do because you think it means you are respectful.  It is a symbol of something  but not actually anything.  It is like going to a funeral.  People say it is to show their respects.  Are you fucking kidding me?  You've waited until I died to come see me?  How's that respectful?  The time was any day I was alive.  After, at least to me, is useless.

You can assume I didn't finish college but the degrees on the wall in my office would prove otherwise.  Why are you finding it increasingly difficult to stick with the topic?  Once again you are making assumptions because things don't fit into holes you are used to.  You'll continue to be lost if you know how everyone should act or think.  Let's assume that I'm wrong and you can't donate your time and effort to different groups that aid in helping inner city youth or the military, then standing or kneeling for the anthem still doesn't actually do anything for either.

During a flight I move around.  I get up as often as I can to make sure I don't get a clot.  I don't fit well in seats.  After a while I can't wait to stand up.  This is a reason to stand.  This is a way to benefit a person by standing.  I know that must be a novel concept in a world where people only stand to make it look like they are respectful.

I have officially made my fist anti-NFL statement which is rare because I am never anti anything.

I went down to the temporary Raider's "sho'/"headquaters"  ay Town Square here in Las Vegas and asked, "What the hell will the Raiders do about this standing/kneeling situation"?

But I could not get through the front door due to some minor meeting going on inside but the valet guys and one valet girl (no male cheerleaders)  heard me loud and clear and nodded their heads in some sort of agreement.

I think that was for season ticket holders so there was probably no person of importance inside .... but I will return to ask again.

Having been in the military for a good number of years, this kneeling stuff bothers me somewhat.

This whole situation is something like the nuts taking over the nut-house and the NFL cannot control it.

There are roughly 134,000 mensa members.  It is ok to not be in the majority.  It says nothing about accuracy.  It is obvious you want to side with the masses if for no other reason than to side for the masses.  I look for truth.  I know that's weird but that's what I do.

You mean you don't have genetics of a national level bodybuilder or Serena Williams?  Shocking.  I understand the human body.  Do some research if you don't believe me.

I didn't get the degrees to sell myself.  I got them to learn more about the human body to help me with my own endeavors.  It just so happened I could parlay them into money and help for others.  There are brilliant people and idiots in all walks of life.  I'd be a fool to discount people due to the profession or degree they chose.  I'd also be an idiot to hold someone in high esteem based only on the degree or profession he chose.

Where is the attack?  I have no anger placed on people who stand or kneel.  What message are you sending to the guys who are doing exactly what you want?  What are you telling the J.J. Watt's of the world?  He needs to retire?  Is there something more he could do to please you?  I realize Marshawn Lynch upsets you but your stance against him is also a stance against J.J.  I will not prevent you from being an idiot nor could I probably.  If you want to stand, if you want to pray, if you want to never go to another game that's your deal but you are the one who is saying he's protesting because he doesn't like what a few do.  I said they are all idiots but will continue to watch.  I'm not offended by either stance.  It is their bodies and their lives to do with what they choose.  It seems odd that I would have a problem with their body positioning during a song.  If that was the case just how great must everything be in my life to worry about something so trivial?

You're not sure how the league is financially doing disproves your theory that the masses are done with the sport?  Where do you think this money is coming from?  People vote with their dollars and their votes are displayed in the huge amount of money in the sport.  If you need me to explain any more just let me know.

They assault each other outside of the game and people act like it is just part of the game.  Fight in the NBA, NFL or MLB and you get way greater suspensions and fines.  If this is the result of people being brought up right then there is no hope for civilization.
