Actually, the concert came before the rally.So, anyone who came solely for the concert presumably would have left. Or at least been holding up a sign in support of the band.

By the way the band was  a group called The Decemberists. That's right, those The Decemberists. You are probably familiar with their long string of radio hits and their sold out stadium world tours, so I will not bother dwelling on their popularity for a second longer.

maybe they got bombarded with tons of misleading ads like we're getting here in CA.

It looks like Prop 8 is going to lose in CA despite big $$$ being spent by groups that are not even located in the state.

LOL. Concerning gay marriage, there is not much to discuss. Give them right to be able to marry at the courthouse. It's understandable if the church doesn't want to marry them and that's something I'm ok with. Church doesn't even deserve it anyhow, so...

But to deny people marriage whether straight or gay is outright discrimination.

Well, that would be to promote damage to the gene pool. It is not exactly common either. Is there any actual case of this happening anywhere?

Homosexual people is not uncommon and have existed for as long we know. I can't see the harm in enabling gay people to marry each other.
The sexual behavior of humans is not as simple as christians/faith heads would like to believe.

I doubt that.  They actually targeted Oregon and spent a great deal of money, but still lost. 

About 70 percent of the voters in Hawaii rejected homosexual marriage, and we're arguably the most liberal state in the country.

I'm sure people vote against homosexual marriage for a variety reasons, including fear, looks, religion, preservation of traditional marriage, hatred, etc.

Actually, the concert came before the rally.So, anyone who came solely for the concert presumably would have left. Or at least been holding up a sign in support of the band.

By the way the band was  a group called The Decemberists. That's right, those The Decemberists. You are probably familiar with their long string of radio hits and their sold out stadium world tours, so I will not bother dwelling on their popularity for a second longer.
actually the decemberists are a pretty popular band especially likely to appeal to alot of the new age younger generation so you might wanna check your sarcasm.

"Congress shall make NO law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances."

From a treaty with Tripoli, drafted by George Washington himself 1796 and signed by John Adams 1797:

"As the Government of the United States of America is not, in any sense, founded on the Christian religion; as it has in itself no character of enmity against the laws, religion, or tranquillity, of Musselmen; and as the said States never have entered into any war or act of hostility against any Mehomitan nation, it is declared by the parties that no pretext arising from religious opinions shall ever produce an interruption of the harmony existing between the two countries."

That little separation of church and state thing went out the window centuries ago. Gay marriage wouldn't be an issue if it didn't.

not really how many ppl do you think actually watched any of the debates in their entirety? and not only that but werent brain dead after the first 15 mins so that they could comprehend the answers and statements? probably not many i like politics and i couldnt watch them the entire way through that shit was mind numbing. So in all actuallity its probably pretty acurate although the same could be said for mccain supporters as well but probably to a lesser degree...just being honest

very true but you hear the filtered versions depending on what station you listen to if you listen to msnbc your gonna hear them quote mccain and say whats wrong with his position and plan and the same can be said for fox. By getting the statements from news channels you dont really get a fair chance to make up your mind although a intelligent responsible person would regardless but still your are swayed and told what to think by getting your info from the news stations.

I thought at this stage that it was common knowledge that America was founded as a Masonic country. These men shaped and created our constitution based on their beliefs. The very fact that the first thing they put into the constitution was the right to freely practice any religion and forbidding the goverment to interfer with said belief was at the time astonishing.

The Treaty with Tripoli was a treaty with the muslim rulers of north africa. They simply stated what was in the first amendment. The goverment was not founded on the christian religion, but by rather men of christian faith. This sentiment is echoed earlier when Washington addressed a Jewish group telling them that "all possess like liberty of conscient and immunties of citizenship. "

I think this goes against the grain, but there was a supreme court decision "Holy trinity V. United States in 1892 in which Justice David Brewer declared that the United States of America is a Christian Nation. This was really just the judges personal opinion but it should still be noted.

The thing I never understand is where in the constitution is defines the separation of church and state? I know it protects religious freedoms, but where is the separation of church and state in the constitution? I am not a constitutional scholar so if someone knows please tell me.

The goverment was founded to be neurtral on religous matters so that people could decide what is best for them. You automatically make the assumption that just because many of the Founding Fathers held a christian belief that it was the single factor determining the morals and values of the Constitution. Since they above all aimed for a secular state, the proof burden is upon you to demonstrate that their christian beliefs actually played any role in this. Just so you know, most of them were deists and Freemasons contrary to popular belief.

Do you also believe that people would lack common sense and morals without the christian faith? (which is absolute bullshit btw)


The supreme court decision you mentioned is although a good point, irrelevant to the discussion. 1892 is a time way after the era of the Founding Fathers and it was also popular to debate creationism vs evolution in the courthouses of that time. Which really should have been a non issue since it never was the state's business to favor a particular religious world view.

The Constitution never use the exact wording "church and state is to be kept separate" but I think the first amendment makes this issue pretty clear:

"Congress shall make NO law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances."

Thomas Jefferson also made an interpretation of the First Amendment in 1802 in a letter to the Committee of the Danbury Baptist Association with the quote "...wall of separation between church and State."

The treaty of Tripoli went through the entire Senate 1797 and all the members of it received a copy and later voted on the matter. The votes were unanimous! They all accepted the reasoning of "As the government of the United States of America is not, in any sense, founded on the Christian Religion...".

Palin had 60,000 in Florida and just gave Saturday night the highest ratings they had in 14 years.

I looked at the thread you linked. First of all, the amount of copy and paste you use is almost at a criminal level for these type of internet debates. Keep it short, write cliff notes if there's anything noteworthy and present your argument without spamming out thousands of words.

I would like to debate you, but if I have to go through all of that text and look up the sources, create a opinion about it and look up counterarguments etc it would just waste too much of my time for it to be worth it. When you copy and paste the amount you do, it derails the discussion.

With that said, I did read most of it and from what I could tell in your posts, you argued that the religions/beliefs of the Founding fathers somehow automatically transfer to the foundation the country was founded upon. If this is true, the proof burden is upon you. Until then, it is merely a speculation. As I've said before, most of them were deists and Freemasons, not theist christians.

A christian majority of the american population does NOT mean that the country was founded as one. Big difference. We're talking about the foundation, not the state of affairs that ensued after wards.

You can not simply dismiss the Tripoli treaty just because you dig up a bunch of quotes from random statesmen. Wait you didn't, you copied and pasted the whole article, silly me. The fact remains, they all voted unanimously for it! With no debate or dissent! A vote on a treaty holds a much higher value for me than any quotes of most likely biased christian people.

Of all the documents that has been written in the early history of america, the most important when speaking of the Foundation, is the Constitution.

Please tell me where in the Constitution it says that U.S is a nation founded upon christianity.

No she didnt, the GOP Distorted crowd sizes ever since she came aboard.  Im Clearwater they claimed 20,000 and the venue held 7200.  Vegas they claimed 20,000 Venue Held 8,000.  

Palin didnt have 60,000.  She had about 20-22,000 in Orlando.
