I remember watching that when it first aired, as Victor had called me the night before to tell me how excited he was to land Letterman.

I spoke to him days later and I told him that I'm torn by the skit. Part of me was happy to see a buddy make it on Letterman (viewed nationwide, very much so mainstream). The other part of me felt bothered, as I knew better. I knew that Letterman and his "type" viewed bodybuilders as a mockery. He viewed them as overgrown behemoths that had very low IQs and would stand there posing and smiling on display for everyone's amusement.

Later, I told him that he should grab a few seconds of that skit and place it on his website, even send it out for casting into movies that might be searching for guys that have his look. He never did that.

I think that's Wong Hong (off season) next to Dave on the left side. Derek looked good there.

Was Palumbo in a 1996 Spiderman movie? Or left/cut to the edit-room floor?
Ive seen a pic recently where they said he was either in the movie or on-set or filmed a part (extra)?
I dont watch those kinds of films so unsure.  ???

Bodybuilding will never go beyond that type of attention ...

even if it was attainable drug free.

I know what you mean...on that note, take a look at this example of making fun of bodybuilders from the Ironage TV series "Malcom in the Middle":

On that note...I suppose there are a lot of people in Hollywood who take roles that are ultimately demeaning.  It made me sad to read the biography of the obese actor who had a role in the movie "Hard Target":

https://www.imdb.com/name/nm0444751

^ It even makes me sad to read that his real name was Harry Keener.  Who names their child something that will ultimately result in them being made fun of, and called "Hairy Keister"?  If I had to guess, that is why he changed his name.

His real name was Elliot, Harry is presumably a stage name. You know, like porn actresses dont go by their real names right? They use made up names? Whoopi goldberg is actually  Caryn Elaine Johnson.

Hahaha, scanning the Wikipedia article for Hard Target just now about it to grab Elliot Keener's Wiki page [which I found did not exist] made me want to watch it again too.  ;D  And eat Cajun wings.  :D

I bought a digital copy on YouTube, so I might just do that tonight.  8)

Not sure about the Cajun wings...assuming there are any wing restaurants in Thunder Bay/Canada still in business at this point...even if they are, they probably won't be soon...maybe in that case, I should grab the wings too.  :D

I think Hard Target was released in Jean-Claude Van Damme's last year of major commercial and life success [1993].  Cocaine got the better of him after that, and by 1998, he was basically yesterday's papers.  That's just going along with the theme that Hollywood is unforgiving - and even if Van Damme had avoided drug addiction, he probably would have still been displaced in Hollywood by about the same time frame as he was with addiction.

Van Damme's hot female co-star Yancy Butler seemed to become quite the hot mess later in life:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yancy_Butler

Looks like this little blurb denotes quite the time frame of being a wreck too:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yancy_Butler#Personal_life

 :( :'(

I couldn't find a thumbnail, but check out the first minute of this clip, and the look in her eyes when she saw Jean Claude Van Damme's snake, LOL:

That's completely plausible too...I just think "Harry Keener" sounds too much like "Hairy Keister" for not one single child to notice it and make fun of it.

Kids are cruel, and as I suggested above...it would only take one child to make that connection and make fun of him over it, that might make him want to change his name.  From a Hollywood perspective, I don't see why else someone would go from "Harry Keener" to "Elliot Keener".  It's not like going from "Mark Sinclair" to "Vin Diesel" or something.

Well...now that you mentioned it...

Is that a New York City thing, or a homosexual thing?  I had previously just thought DA's voice was the product of growing up in NYC, but hearing that clip again now...yeah, it does sound a bit homosexual.  My "Gaydar" is notoriously not very strong, so I don't know for sure.

It depends on how it is presented. When a person with a bodybuilder physique is an athlete or a super hero in the movies it's great. When they are presented literally as bodybuilders wearing tiny trunks and just posing and admiring themselves that's different. It's self-absorbed narcissism that's a huge turn off. The idea of men dressed like that doing various poses.

When you see a bodybuilder dressed normally he doesn't get the negative looks than when he prances around in a string tank and those tight spandex shorts. That's when people shake their head and go, "Oh, brother."
