Who the fuck or should I say HOW the fuck does someone do skull crushers with an Olympic bar with 45 lb plates on each side?  LMAO!  I mean seriously............I've been in a lot of fucking gyms and seen a lot of guys train but I've yet to see ANYONE ever do skull crushers with an Olympic bar let alone with 45lb plates on each side?

I could imagine someone doing close grip bench presses or french presses with an Olympic bar and with 45lb plates obviously.  But skull crushers?   :o

Ok.  I was think a regular sized Olympic bar.  You mean a straight bar with Olympic collars?

Are you saying it's too heavy or too awkward or what?

Both.  I can understand a small straight bar with Olympic collars and 45's on each side.  But a full length Olympic bar with 45lbs on each side?  I honestly never seen ANYONE ever do that.  And yes that does seem like a helluva lot of weight for simple skull crushers.  I've never seen a probodybuilder do it.  Although I've never seen a pro do squats on a ball either so just because they don't do it doesn't mean no one does or can't.

I've seen it, and done it myself. I did not care for it though, because the length of the bar didn't make balance the easiest thing, nor was the positioning on the bench. I found I either had to spin around reverse of a normal bench press or be hanging so far off the bench it just felt-and looked-silly.
Some guys, the one I first saw do it, do not have heavy enough pre-made BB's to use. If they can use 150+lbs on Skullcrushers, the heaviest I've seen at any of the gyms I've seen is 110#. So, for them, it makes sense.
I still don't advocate it though.

MM,

I've seen a lot of guys do it in the gym I went to...  Most of them prefer to use a shorter bar b/c of the balance issue, but it is not that much weight.

Why do you not believe this is a possibility?

BTW, I've seen one guy do one-armed dumbbell rows with the olympic bar and 45's on each end b/c the dumbbells only went up to 100 lbs.

I could understand doing one arm dumbell rows if you really had to but still that's silly as hell anyways.  I've never seen anyone do that in a gym either.

lol it's not that hard. I did them at around 18-19 years old and triceps are not my best bodypart.

Haven't really done them since. But I do curls with it. :D

Actually that's only 135 and SK'ers are partial reps only. Seen a few 300+ in that tricep exercise. Most guy's prefer an EZ bar.

Seen one arm BB curls with an Olympic bar. Hit's a lot of supporting muscles around and under the biceps. As well as the forearms. Different slant on bicep work. Of course the  one arm side press ( your bending away and down as the bar is pressed up) with an Olympic bar allows a lot of weight to be used. And in a way (for me anyway) easier to handle that a DB.

What do you consider a proper skull crusher? I mean you can lower it behind your head and press out or lower to your nose and do a half-press kind of thing. That's going to change the poundage used.

If you have strong arms and can handle some wrist discomfort it's not a big deal.

So what is a big deal to you then?  Just curious.  LOL.  Like I said I've NEVER seen anyone do a skull crusher with a full size Olympic bar with plates on the side.  I'm sure it can be done.  Why don't more guys do it?  Why don't bodybuilders do it?

I've skull crushed as much 265lbs for a few reps.....I routinely use 250lbs on an ez-bar.  I know I could force more weight, but what's the point?  I'm already using too much.

Are we talking skull crushers, close grip bench presses or lying tricep extensions?  Lying tricep extensions are skull crushers.  Close grip bench presses are not the same exercise.

His form sucks but this is a skull crusher.
&feature=related

These ARE NOT skull crushers these are more french presses or close grip bench presses.
HUGE DIFFERENCE.

I hardly doubt you skull crushed aka lying tricep extended over 200lbs.  LMAO!

man of steel is huge.  i believe he could handle it.  I could do 45s on each side with an olympic bar.  im sure my brother can handle a lot more than that with ease.

Dude so you're saying it's possible to do a lying tricep extension with 265lbs?  Like I said I'm not talking about close grip bench presses.  I'm talking STRICT form skull crushers AKA lying tricep extensions.

This is how you do a proper skull crusher.  And my mistake I guess french presses are also considered skull crushers.  Close grip bench pressing with shitty form is not the same exercise as a skull crusher.  Hence no way in hell ANYONE is doing 265lbs in the lying tricep extension.  I guess it comes down to semantics.

You can do 265lbs in lying tricep extensions?

Based on your comments, right now it seems impossible for you, but for me it's not.....been lifting everything heavy on arms for years.  Triceps I use excellent form...slightly better than biceps in fact.  I've stress fractured my right wrist due to extreme weight in arm training.

For close grips add a 100lbs.
