A nice tailored suit (classic colors, not purple or lime green), nice shoes ( not made of nasty colored crocodile or ostrich), and sublte accessories (nice watch not jewel encrusted and guady) these guys now look like warmed over ass with a side of retard.

The style of dress you talk about, comes from the classic days of R&B, Blues & Soul music. You're supposed to separate yourself from the crowd, and all the things you talk about with the crocodile shoes, and lime green suits- are part of that. When you're on stage, you separate yourself from the crowd- no blue jeans or t-shirts. That's what the crowd wears, and it's supposed to be a show that the people pay to see, not something they can look in the mirror and get.
The problem with some of these guys, is they don't have any delineation between the Grammy's, Oscars and your local dive bar. One place takes a style of dress, and the other has an entirely different dress code that you should dress appropriately for.
