Title: I hate "rest days"
Post by: _aj_ on August 15, 2014, 07:23:17 AM
Even though I need them more than ever. Between the high(er) volume workouts and the various parts breaking down, one rest day for every three of training is a requirement for me.

I know it's a good thing, but I just want to train, train, train. It's an illness.

Maybe I will do some "active recovery" like conditioning stuff! Yeah!

Meh, I doubt that. I do enjoy my time under the weight pile, though. Meditative.

Don't sell yourself short.  Go to war with the weights everyday.  I walk into the gym carrying a sword and a battle axe because I know combat is coming.

I may see if the missus wants to do some circuit HIIT in the driveway. It frequently leads to hot sex. Not in the driveway, though. Although nobody can see us from there....

Nah, too many rocks and shit.

here, try this:
- reduce the intensity of your work outs such that you are able to work out more days.
- Ice baths/soak after each work out
- Quit your job and sleep all day to recover from you work out.
- "Supplements"
- One or two grapefruit each day to increase Test production, it worked for Kai.

- One or two grapefruit each day to increase Test production, it worked for Kai. Will get on this ASAP

We train similarly.  Rest days are only not enjoyable when you feel you haven't earned them.

The thing is that I *do* feel like I earned them. I busted my ass in the gym for the last three days. I just want to be able to bust my ass everyday and still grow and not get injured. A little juice helps, but it isn't a perfect shield. Also, carb cycling down is a downer too.

Steady-state cardio increases cortisol which can depress test and increase fat stores. Somewhat counter-intuitive, I know. "Studies show" that HIIT type training doesn't have the same deleterious effects. Cardio for extended periods of time "in the zone" can pretty much make you fat.

lmao...no disrepect intended to you at all my friend but that is single handily the most stupid thing I ever heard.

When injecting exogenous testosterone (often times 100 times more than what your body is capable of producing) the last fucking thing on earth you need to worry about is anything effecting your test levels and certainly not cardio  ::)

You also don't need to remotely worry about cortisol guys like Big J in my gym and Arnold used to train for 5-6 hours a day on crazy splits hitting each body part 3 times a week 6 days a week.

Over training and CNS exhaustion will only generally affect elite athletes like marathon runners, MMA athletes who would trains like 30 + hours a week.

99% of gym rats don't even need to worry about it.

Of course if you are severely dieting on very low calorie or carb diet (like the gal diet) they yeah not crazy amounts of cardio.

But running hard for one hour at a time is not gonna make you fat or make you lose muscle or be detrimental to your progress.

If anything it will improve everything so long as you take in proper nutrition and rest and make you lose fat.

You don't need to do cardio but if you get sick of weights nothing wrong with doing a bit of cardio, steady state of HIIT....unless you just don't like it and are lazy.  :D

Fair enough.

I just don't get a lot of value out of cardio for the time invested. I would rather do 20-30 minutes of HIIT than an hour on the stair master (God help me). When I ruptured my achilles, I was not able to do a lick of cardio for 3 months. Total weight gained: zero pounds. Kept it in check with diet and upper body weight lifting.

Of course, some of that may have been due to the catastrophic atrophy in my legs during that period  :-X

Plenty of things for you to do on rest day, go shopping for new disco thong and purse, buying grapefruit at the supermarket, buying stuffing to put into your thong to appear big, posting craiglist ads for bathroom hook ups, so you should be very busy on rest day.

I was pretty pumped that I could hang with her. Her conditioning is vastly better than mine.

The driveway slopes down to the street about 250m from the house. You can see a bit of "the meadow" that is my front yard.

If you hate rest days -don't rest! I and many others work-out everyday! we believe it's a better way to burn bodyfat, we will take it easy 1 or 2 days a week and lift for full body muscle pumps and practice posing. You can work-out 7 days a week with no issues especially since you take a small amount of anabolics(you won't go catabolic) . I can't take a day off myself,I at least have to do a light full body workout and also train stubborn areas and fine tune areas and practice poses. No such thing as over-training when on cycle even if it is a light cycle.

when i was younger id take advantage of my rest days n do what id call active rest,go mountain climbing, ride youe mountain bike thru the hills n hard trails,go hiking ect,u burn fat n alot of times n aint peoples bodies burning out from lifting, its being in the gym everyday day in n day out, believe it or not we all hit a point in our lives where we just get aggitated from never taking days off from gym, mentally u start to feel like a slave to the gym and instead of enjoying going to the gym u hit a point where u feel like its a job n thats when u know u need 1 day off aweek or even 2,i was the same way in my younger days,i felt like i was shrinking on my days off, i felt guilty like i fucked a broad behind my wifes back or something, it got crazy. all im saying is do what makes u happy n if u dont feel mentally or phsically burned out i guess your ok, be careful tho cause if u r looking to make it for the long haul n keep doing these for the next 30yrs or so dont burn yourself out, sometimes to much motivation backfires n is almost as bad as not enough, theres was a point in my life back in the 90,s where i couldnt take a day off n it hurt me bad, mentally n phsically, dont look at a day off as something negative, just remember n remind yourself that nice, new and thick muscle fiber is growing in your body n u r getting stronger by that

if you don't want or need rest days you ain't training hard enough. end of story.

somewhat true but what I am trying to get across is there are so many muscles and as bodybuilders there is always areas that need improvement. I think 5 days a week is plenty but you could def use the other 2 days to work on fine tunning certain muscle areas you might be lagging or are not up to par. The few days where my work-outs are not as intense are just days where I catch up on these lagging bodyparts even if it's just forarms or maybe more work in the glutes. Now big muscle groups are diffrent but you can definately knit-pick and always find something to work on and improve.

Plus I always think it's best to work-out everyday to keep the fat burning effect going on. I think taking a few days off can slow your progress down. hell even doing a nice cardio session is fine along with a small work-out. I do agree training 7 days a week balls to the wall is not necessary! If somebody has to do that then your correct something is wrong. Alot of bodybuilders lie! The bodybuilders who are coming up and hungry train twice a day. zIt's actually the top bodybuilders who don't trai as often due to their booked schedules and all the traveling they do. Right now their is a freak NPC competitor who is training 2 times daily trying to get that pro card.

No such thing as over-training when your using anabolic steroids,HGH,anchileries and other peptides.

I am sure it does. I am a Florida boy, so I am sure I would hate the winter quickly.

I always laugh at people who want to come to Florida for a vacation. Maybe I am spoiled.

Go to Hawaii instead.

Maui is heaven on earth and FL in winter does offer a nice respite from the psychotic NE winters.  I'v always been about 40 miles from Boston but on a few acres with plenty of woods around. No income tax, cap gains or sales tax makes NH attractive.  Also close to mountains, ocean and lakes.

I live in NJ where we get a real winter and a real summer.  I want it to be summer year round. Hope to move down south where the houses and taxes are less. The people I've met from southern California seem so happy. If I lived where it's 80 degrees and sunny year round I would be too.

Why do you laugh at people vacationing in Florida? I just got back 2 hours ago from spending a week in Sandestin, on the panhandle. Me and my wife had an incredible time. Beautiful beaches on the gulf side. Tons of bikinis to check out as well.

Used to travel to CA a lot and love San Diego weather.  Almost moved there a couple times but could not come to terms with the crazy taxes. South has definitely become more appealing as I've gotten older.

Yea, I get what you mean. It is like every May I see people from all over the world come to Indianapolis to watch the 500. It is the worst track to watch a race at.

Its good to see that there are real hardcore trainers who enjoy lifting on this site and not just juiceheads.
