Any modern examples, besides those ones? Nothing about the current time we live in can be related to what people did before the pyramids. Honestly, I get your point but it's not really on the same wavelength as what other people are saying here,
Thailand. Right wing nationalist military state. Lots of gays and most ladyboys in the world, many serving in the military too. Not an issue for them because its not an issue in their Buddhist religion.
The point is that many views here are influenced, directly or indirectly, by religions and mentalities which originated in the Middle East.
Before the influence of those religions, no one cared for thousands of years, and where countries haven't been influenced by those religions, they still don't.
It's still basically a religious argument, things only changed after those religions made homosexuality and other things to be considered a 'sin'.
For instance, killing criminals in public games was previously not considered wrong or a 'sin' either, but the Christian rulers outlawed this, as killing even criminals was viewed as a 'sin', before it was just public entertainment and no cared either.
