I'm ok with the braids, I'm commenting because I'm not the one that makes choices for others and I can easily see where that can get in the way of judges or anyone else.  If you don't need it on the stage, don't have it.  And I don't think he would have won without the braids.  It's close, but overall I say Phil got it.

tattoos do make it harder to judge imo.  They can add visual weight tossing off symmetry in judging.

Yes you are right about his conditioning being equal in other shows but his waist has never been this small, at least not sense his jump in size, this was/is the best Kai to date.

If you only go by the 8 mendatory poses it's like 50/50, but if you add how they look relaxed, how they look when they move, you clearly see the difference in term of muscle bellie bteween Kai and Phil and that's why Phil took the advantage IMO.
+ The fact he was the current champ to beat, which mean you must be 1% better than him to take the trophy otherwise he keeps it.

Exactly this. I was never a fan of his physique but I'm very impressed with the changes he showed since last year - especially his midsection. He looked very very good and I would have had no argument with him as the new Mr O.

I like Phil Heath, but on this Olympia stage Kai was the clear winner.
Kai was bigger, wider , more ripped and beat the champ in most of the comparison shots.
Kai was a much better poser as well. As a judge with 20 yrs experience I felt Kai was the clear winner.

Despite being a huge Branch fan, I don't understand how he beat Dennis Wolf.

Kai had a great shot of winning, but he flattened out a little on Saturday.  Also, he let Phil be the aggressor, which made it look like Kai was okay with second.
