Who's against helping the poor? I'm against people who are perfectly able body who sponge off the system. Ie; people on UE for extended periods of time and then having benefits extended when there is no money.

Coach, this is not directed at you just needed someone to quote but I'm sure you will understand and agree.

It's one thing for one person voluntarily to help out and give to another. It's quite another thing for a third party to take from one person and give to another because they have unilaterally determined that someone else deserves or is entitled to something that you own more than you do.

Remember, the government can't give anybody anything simply because it has nothing to give. What it gives to one person it has taken from someone else.

If I have $100 in my pocket and give the bum on the corner $5, that helps him and I still have $95.  Seems like it works to me.

But if you don't give him squat maybe he'll be force to get a job and be a productive member of society.

While I don't agree with socialism I also don't agree with the form of capitalism that goes on today in the US.
There are plenty of people out there who are under-employed, plenty of people who have jobs and have a hard time making ends meet living a very modest lifestyle. Employers are cutting costs and providing from bad to worse healthcare options and leaving the employees to pay higher premiums despite worse coverage. And don't even mention retirement, even if you don't get laid off after 15 years with the same company, your retirement account is a joke.

While people love to use the perfectly able bodied people on welfare that choose to be lazy as an example, they never talk about those who have jobs in many cases multiple and are still struggling. Usually they say things like " well that's life, they should have gotten a better education ". Don't you guys realize that in a functioning society you need people to perform ALL of the jobs that make the society work? And in order for it to keep working,  people at every level should be able to put a roof over their head, go on vacation once a year, put their kids through college,  and retire at a reasonable age.

If you think that Obama is the greatest threat to this country's future, you are beyond ignorant.

Coach, what's your opinion on GFC and how it was created? Do you believe in the bailing out AIG or letting them fold?

Was this good and fair capitalism? Would John Galt approve?

I don't share all of Coach's views like religion...but this socialism crap is right on.

For all the dumb wits who cry about helping the poor etc...that's not the issue. The issue is the assholes who become residents of the nanny state and depend on hand outs. There are generations of these people.

I started my business last year and I'm getting around to paying taxes right now. It's a fucking crime how much of my money that I earned through my work, my own time and diligence is being STOLEN from me.

I agree that we should pay taxes to have a standing military, public schools, roads...and other institutions but it's highway robbery what the government is taking from businesses.

The amount that I am paying in taxes this year would put me in a very nice lease for about 2 years in an AMG mercedes while smoking Cubans cigars everyday. It's crazy.
We paid about 200,000 in taxes last year. I feel sick just thinking about it.

socialism, like most politically charged words, has lost all of it's meaning as of late, and serves nothing more than a pavlovian stimuli to elicit an emotional reaction - one way or another - in political power struggles by those in the ruling class or those seeking to usurp the ruling class.

i can talk to 100 different people around the world and the definition of socialism, capitalism, or "free market" will be defined and thought of differently, though probably more homogeneous in people living within the same countries/areas.

"Socialism is a philosophy of failure,
the creed of ignorance, and the gospel of envy,
its inherent virtue is the equal sharing of misery.."
-- Winston Churchill

These are possibly the 5 best sentences you'll ever read: Unfortunately, most voters don't know this.
1. You cannot legislate the poor into prosperity, by legislating the wealth out of prosperity.
2. What one person receives without working for, another person must work for without receiving.
3. The government cannot give to anybody anything that the government does not first take from somebody else.
4. You cannot multiply wealth by dividing it.
5. When half of the people get the idea that they do not have to work because the other half is going to take care of them; and when the other half gets the idea that it does no good to work, because somebody else is going to get what they work for, that is the beginning of the end of any nation.

And crime rates soar when disparities in income and wealth are ignored. Logic fail.

This thread is shit, you guys are fucking retards.

In the 1970s did African Americans commit crimes at same rates they do today? See, liberals came, started handing out welfare checks and "get free money, white people owe you" sentiments and pretty soon African american communities went to shit.  Most of the problems that America has today can be traced to liberal policies that favor big government intervention and all that commie shit.

Social security?  Whose fucking idea was that?

Schools failing students left and right? Who let teacher unions in power?

medicare

medicaid

its easy to go on, liberals leave behind failed financially broken programs left and right

Not a myth. And truth never gets old. You've never been homeless or in such a desperate situation that it's you better do something or starve. I have.

Hunger and getting a roof over your head can sometimes be a huge incentive to do something and get a job -- any job. When I first moved back to Hawaii I was delivering pizzas at 47 years old after working almost 20 years as an engineer.

This doesn't apply to those who are infirmed or have some mental problems. Most are bums and parasites who leach off the system. Of course, you are free to give them your money. But one shouldn't be forced to subsidize someone else's life style.

This "spoof" video came out the other day,and this is exactly what socialism has bought in the UK.You might not understand the accent (Brummie/Birmingham) so i`ll tell you a few of the things she says.
"the doctor confirmed it,....i`m a lazy cow,but so was my mum,and i`m sure my daughters will be...its genetic"
"i tried retail work,part time,i was a shoplifter...and if i go full time i`ll need a bigger overcoat"
The daughters names are Trojan and Tangerine.
"i went back to the doctors and said can you upgrade me to bi-polar,or give me a syndrome, like hamburgers syndrome"

Just want to say one thing: Real socialism takes away 90% of your income and spreads it out over the whole. Obama wants people to pay 30% income tax, whether they're making a mil a year or 10k.
