Very high protein diets is pushed my the magazines to sell more protein supplements many gym rats are brainwashed by this, clean carbs are important like brown rice, oats, quinola etc.

But why?

cycle carbs not protein superdosing...

fuck yeah

But why?
more energy for training so you can push harder and lift heavier and they are protein sparing so your body can use the protein it takes in for recovery rather than energy output.
-
But the galeniko no one diet doesn't call for carbs and those guys are big and shredded. Let's debate this. Different viewpoints welcome.
-
Carbs allow protein to build and repair muscle. Low to no carbs for too long extended time will cause the body to fuel energy from elsewhere which starts catabolism. And you'll look flat.
-
according to Layme Norton carbs are 'protein sparing' , so you can eat less protein if you eat some of dem carbs.
IMO the only difference is I have boring workouts with no pumps when I'm in keto and my arms shrink 1/2" because of glycogen depletion (no Jason Blahomo)
But you know what IS muscle sparing? Running more than 250mg of test a week. Case closed.
-
Cycle carbs or eat very low carbs as a rule if trying to stay lean.......BUT have a refeed day for brain function, good pumps, and fiber intake.
A fiber supp should be taken daily anyway if dieting IMO,but carbs will taste better.

You can achieve all you want as far as getting lean and maintaining 98% of muscle on keto. Carbs can be a big help though IMO as far as training hard and gaining muscle goes.

Being that you said besides fuel. I'd go with nutrient transport. It releases insulin which would then shuttle increased nutrients into the tissue. Muscle sparing prevents proteins from being converted to sugar. Just mybguess
-
Carbs may not be necessary for muscle building but they sure as fuck make it easier.

Nevermind my last reply - you ARE this stupid. You are asking if carbs play a role in muscle growth. Nah man - protein that's all you need - so go buy a bunch of powder and you will be huge in no time.

Most BBs eat carbs. Probably means you should too if you want to look like a BB.
Dorian dieted the conventional way with lots of carbs and not overly much protein (when compare to what the mags recommend) and he was more consistent and more shredded than anyone shy of Munzer (and a few others obviously).
Carbs are not the enemy, they just have to be used smartly and in proportion with your diet. My coach diets us on a pretty good amount of carbs and im still losing fat just fine. I personally cannot keto, I dont have the willpower and I cant stand feeling like death all the time

2 years ago, (I was 21 in FSU) my lifting partener and I did a squat a thon contest of who could do 315 for the most reps. He went first and did 30 full reps, I went after him and did 50 full reps. It was awesome and the entire gym loved to see two friends challenge each other like that. Now at 23 I don't go over 225 for 10-12 reps. If you have a regular lifting partener, try to challenge each other like that.
-
still after all these years calfzilla wondering if he should eat carbs!!!!!!!!!?????????!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Bodybuilding workouts, 30-45 second sets followed by 1-2 min rest,
are primarily glycolytic.
So, if you're training in a carb depleted state, your workouts would figure to be sluggish, as you're relying on a slower burning fuel, fat, which is more appropriate for less intense training like jogging at 9-10 minute mile pace.
Of course, if you're dieting for a show, you might be willing to sacrifice the intensity for the increase in fat burning.
